New art ahoy! Kinda liked the art of the old one (definitely looked like a Weatherlight story arc card, if that makes any sense), but this one is pretty darn good too. Not sure how many EDH decks he goes into, but lots of people will be glad to see this reprinted.

I'm looking forward to using the old art as a token for the new art when I copy him in my new RuG commander deck.

this is a good reprint for commander. it's a balance utility creature that is worth playing, but not overpowered.

Hmmm...damn. I give this new art 5/5. I give the old art 5/5 too. Commander lets me play only 1. Damnit.

The new art is cool, it seems to be saying "better keep away", a scene taken earlier before the old artwork comes in, where the Kavu is already spitting the fire. I wouldn't have needed a new one for this guy though, i found the old one to have some remarkable character, you'd immediately recognize that "it's that freaking Kavu!"
But i guess after reprinting it for the third time in a preconstructed deck set, Wizards felt like giving him a new art.

This guy would be elegant and playable even if you made it a 3/2 that did 3 damage for . It can swing the battlefield in a ridiculous way. Doing one more damage than a lightning bolt is surprisingly often important. I've even killed my own Homura to good effect.

Card advantage plus board control, and this is rated less than a 4? Please don't rate if you've never used it, the Flametongue is devastating.

A 4/2 for is reasonable, if a bit boring. But killing a creature at the same time is a bargain.

And, not surprisingly, the best red card ever is the one that makes the least sense in red. Nekrataal, Shriekmaw, Skinrender all saw a ton of constructed play. Red cards are usually inefficient at providing 2-for- 1 value, so this is amazing.

In Planeshift this was broken and twisted the whole game. And it still is curve breaking and broken. Not a good and balanced desing.

It's not broken, it's just powerful.

@Clockwork Swordfish: That makes sense to me, the old one looked like it was actually painted, unlike all the new computery looking stuff.
The new art is great, and it's a solid card.

Pretty good in the Zedruu deck. You're playing him mostly for the CIP effect, so when you don't need the body hanging around, donate it.

This kavu is infamous because it killed the glorious return of Serra Angel too. It was funny during Invasion block and 7th edition that nobody used the angel because of this kavu, lol.

It's a Flame Slash attached to a Dwarven Patrol minus all drawbacks of the patrol. A 4/2 body is no laughing matter and it always takes something down when it shows up to the party. 4.5/5 any day.

Such a good card. Four mana for four damage and a 4/2 body. This sees such play in my BRG commander deck where you constantly get bodies that are X/4 or less.

Flameslash stapled to a powerful efficient {3} body. Not only is this almost always card advantage, it's opening the way for you to attack them. Really good in multi-color because it's color weight is low, really good in general because it's a powerful burn spell that you get to use as a creature, or vice versa.
Consider repercussion to make it more brutal (as the other effect of repercussion makes them not want to attack into him and not want to block him; making him an 8 damage burn spell.)

You're a 2/2, Sisay. Should probably keep that opinion to yourself, or at least til that thing's out of earshot.
As someone else mentioned: This card would be too good even if it were a 3/2 that does 3 damage! No way you'd get an expansion set reprint, though: this crazy lizard would warp limited sooooo bad.

Good enough to be printed as a rare. I think if it gets reprinted, it should be. It only warped the limited format so much because it was ridiculously powerful for an uncommon.

This card, and it's art is really nice. I see how it can be good in decks.
