A little low on the power level in today's day and age.

Uncommon, with good reason. It will always have its namesake, but it's been obsolete for a while.

It's true that it's a little weak nowadays, but this will always hold a special place in my heart. Plus, the new art istruly awesome. I'd love to see that on a wallpaper.

I liked the 4th edition art the best.

still a terrible card, but this new art is great. Really gets the flavor of milling across.

by the way, without Millstone, we wouldn't call it "milling" so have some respect whippersnappers :p

Nice to see is back at its original rarity, it always felt pretty weak for a rare, even back when it was the go-to mill card.

Making this an uncommon means drafting several of them is a real possibility and a solid win condition for a limited deck.

U and W have enough defensive creature to make milling in limited a definite possibility. Awesome art that would also fit for Mind Grind.

grab in limited. Clog the boardstate. win.

I think people calling this terrible have never played with it. It doesn't play well in a speed mill deck but if you can safely drop it at any point it's a nice place to dump mana and get a little more ahead. It turns the game from trying to get through to an opponent to just sitting there passively trying to stay alive

Millstone belongs in a control deck, not a turn 1-4 kill deck. It's an early drop that clears the way for finishers, and steadily grinds away at their deck turn after turn while not locking you into doing all the work on your turn with sorcery speed spells and leaving your mana open for counters/instant speed removal.

Although I would be hesitant to use it in a competitive Legacy deck.

It has the power level of a common but I guess you'd be pretty ***ed if you got about 30 of these in a booster box.

Ah yes. Just like Prodigal Sorcerer ending up with all pingers being called Tim and Grizzly Bears giving all 2-drop 2/2s the nickname "Bear", this guy is the reason we call decking strategies "Millling." True, there are better mills than this card, but few that are as reliable as him.

Just took down a 4-man M14 draft with this in a sweet Esper control deck using all the cards nobody wanted.

I'm glad they included this in the 20th anniversary core set. Nothing says "I've got control" more than spending your leftover mana on the opponent's end turn step to drain their library two cards at a time.

Despite appearances the actual clock in Limited is roughly 7-8 turns, depending on when you stabilize. People forget that the opponent's draw step helps speed the process.

2 stars for card
.5 stars for epic art
.5 stars for holding up better than most early artifacts (I'm looking at YOU Rod of Ruin)
2 stars for begetting mill
