Stormtide was just in m13. Nobody forgot about it. I for one, appreciate the awesome color pie bleed. Blue exiling is new and interesting, and this guy is a Limited bomb if I've ever seen one.

What happened to big blue creature that actually help blues strategy like Stormtide Leviathan and Trench Gorger?

Edit: StormTide and Trench Gorger are both over powered but the truth is that this isn't a good blue sweeper it cost 7with no ramp which is bad enough but when it hits the battle field it will not be able to do anything. Take a causal game against green ramp it may be able to exile the opponents Duskdale Wurm but will still die to the common Deadly Recluse. I keep on forgetting that the stormtide is basically unblockable thanks to his islandwalk (house rule states he can attack but has no evasion) clause, but I think about that first statement (Creatures without flying or islandwalk can't attack). This does prevent a mono green deck from attacking and killing you even if the leviathan is hit with Pacify. The Gorger on the other hand prevents you from drawing lands late game even if it gets hit with Doomblade. If you were running a Simic variant this could be fun however, with ramp you could reasonably summon multiple whales in a game exiling several cards an attack is rather annoying and will easily give you a win.

ok, so I officially call B.S. on all P/T conversions that even PRETEND to be halfway based in realism XD
once upon a time, a 3/3 was an elephant, a 2/2 was a Bear, and I think a 1.5/1.5 was an athletic Human.

Now Whales are 5/5, but if you look at the art.....I think it could probably eat a *** Mozosaur for breakfast o_O

IT'S HUGE!!! WAYYY BIGGER THAN any Whale ever has a right to be. This is clearly at least about the size of an Inkwell Leviathan, with the "Indestructible" being what makes the other creature win in a fight.
There is no fracking way that Polar Kraken, for example, is that much bigger than this. I think Colossal Whale could EAT Polar Kraken!
Or that B.F.M. is 20 factors huger. x.x No. that's not true. That's just B.S. XD

Oh and Primeval Titan is a 6/6. And this is a 5/5. So that is why Primeval Titan is banned in Commander @___@

AND. DO YOU EVEN REALIZE. THE ONLY PART OF THIS CREATURE WE CAN SEE IS THE FRONT-MOST END OF IT'S ABNORMALLY HUMONGOUS CRANIUM. FIRST OF ALL THERE IS MORE HEAD WE CANNOT SEE.

THEN THERE IS THE REST OF IT.
AND. IT'S NOT. LEGENDARY?!?!?!? HOW MANY OF THESE......*****THINGS***** CAN EVEN FIT IN ONE FLIPPPING OCEAN?!?!? X__X

Great art. The abilities are great too. It's just a shame that it has no sort of hexproof or something, like inkshroud leviathan. Now THAT was an awesome blue fatty. This one is fine too, but far worse than the inkshroud guy.
I think they could have added some sort of flavorful dive ability. Like
"BlueBlue: colossal whale dives and gains hexproof. While diving, it has -3/-0."
"BlueBlue: colossal whale resurfaces."

So, this thing dies to a Champion of the Parish after 2 Gather the Townsfolk and a Doomed Traveler table?

So, my major question is: What happens if this thing get's Ovinized, or Turned and then killed? Is the effect of returning when it leaves the battlefield conditional as in a triggered ability, or is it applied to the exiled card, rather than the whale?

Why did this have to be a dead creature type instead of just a leviathan? Come on for Pete's sake Leviathan in the Bible was a whale!!! It would have gone perfectly in my terrors of the deep deck.

OK folks, this will probably seem an exceptionally stupid question (I am new to MTG), but is the "Exile when attacking" ability trigger every time this creature attacks? If so, this card makes good 2-card combos with permanents with Populate ability/effect.

So cards like Growing Ranks2GreenWhiteGreenWhite, Trostani, Selesnya's VoiceGreenGreenWhiteWhite, Vitu-Ghazi GuildmageGreenWhite, and even Wayfaring Temple1GreenWhite (would need a 3rd card to ensure this creature is unblockable.

I do realize that all of the cards I've listed above are , but it is ridiculously easy to include several lands or artifacts that produce 'any-color' mana....

Thanks to all in advance!!

~Battleshield

Edit note - I added the code to include mana symbols for each of the cards but they didn't show when entered as the Formatting Help page instructs. Trying various code adjustments until i gt them to show....

Yes, this triggers every time it attacks, but how on Earth (or on Ocean) does that mean it combos with Populate?

I'd almost this rather be a 4/6 creature... 7 mana cost for only 5 toughness isn't all that hot.. Good card if you can get it to stick for a couple turns... They will be in some trouble at that point.

Traditionally speaking, seven mana for a 5/5 blue creature isn't that high at all, and this ability is pretty amazing.

The best part is it exiles upon attacking, before blockers are declared.

This is a really Great Whale.
This is a great card which is a whale.
This card is clearly much bigger in artwork and in name than Great Whale.
This card is in the same pose as his great (grandson) whale.

@verzanix

Disperse. :3

Edit: Hate me if you must, but you have to admit that would be pretty funny.

Also, I think the magnitude of this whale's size is clearly demonstrated by its ability to swallow Eldrazi like nobody's business. It's just a 5/5 because, despite its bigness, it is still otherwise not effective in combat. Gameplay-wise, the only real problem with the whale is he costs 2 mana more than he should. At 7-8 mana we get abilities that hit multiple creatures at once like Shipbreaker Kraken and Stormtide Leviathan, but this can only take out one guy at a time, and only when attacking. At 7 CMC, that's too slow. At 5 CMC, it's about right. Actually, that might even be pushing it. Maybe.

@DarthParallax

You have a good point. I think that the flavor is that the whale doesn't have any special powers; it's just really big. According to the art, the whale is probably the size of BFM's head, which IS pretty ridiculous, but I don't think that the whale is BIGGER than BFM... But yeah. It should not be a 5/5.
