Potentially the most powerful uncommon in the set.

Best Soulbond creature. And I hate hexproof.

Hexproof for everyone! Soulbond is almost like turning creatures into reusable, Equipment-style auras. And Hexproof is one of the best effects.

Oh my... so many possibilities.
Notice soulbond does not target.
Use Phantasmal Image to copy her and net 4 hexproofed creatures, or use her to give Phantasmal Image Hexproof when it copies something bigger.

Powerful bond effect, a 2/3 body makes removal harder. Reasonably priced. Really solid.

I love this card. Works very, very well in an illusion deck. Have a lord of the Unreal bond with her, or phantasmal image that copies another strong creature. Combine all that with a couple krovikan mists and some other interesting illusions, and you have yourself a quaint, quick kill blue deck.

This thing is going to become an EDH staple for a long time. Now the only problem I'm having with her is finding room for her in my Dralnu, Lich Lord EDH... I thought about taking out Whispersilk Cloak... Seeing as that is only in their to protect Dralnu and She does it better then it and she protects herself. But I only have whispersilk in there because I don't have Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots... Which is a problem on its own. I would rather add more ways to protect him rather then reducing the number of Fabricate targets. What a conundrum I have gotten myself into. If I had a Havengul Lich I could easily swap out 2 creatures that don't help out as much as either him or her... But alas.. I suppose I'll have to wait until I can get a trade from some one.
This still doesn't help me answer my own question though. Such a good card. 5/5!

Pair it with Beguiler of Wills and then enchant Beguiler of Wills with Call to the Kindred. Then once you have stolen something really good like a Titan, flicker Elgaud Shieldmate to give hexproof to your stolen titan. Muhaha!!!
If Titan tribal is going to become prevalent human aggro tribal might be the answer. When you consider the fact that you can do all of that with just human creatures...cough...Cavern of Souls...cough...this could create some serious issues for Titan decks.

This + Stuffy Doll = Evil. Pure, unadulterated evil.

I use her in my Momir Vig EDH. I can tutor her up as soon as I play a green or green/blue creature and bond her to Momir, 'cause he's kinda fragile.

Auto-include for a blue EDH with a combo general- another Champion's Helm or Whispersilk Cloak is never bad in a singleton format.

Hilariously bad art for this card - apparently no one gave Anthony Palumbo the memo that Innistrad block was supposed to be gothic-themed, not spiked plate mail and anime hair themed. Elgaud Shieldmate looks totally out of place beside any other card in this set.
In terms of power, at 3U it costs just too much. It's almost always terrible played on its own, or when you're just giving hexproof to a creature you don't really care about. The fact that it's sometimes excellent is marginal, since it requires you to already have a great threat out that your opponent would be able to deal with, were it not for the Shieldmate. Not actually as useful as it seems.
Ultimately, I think it should have been a 2/2 and been costed at 1UU.

I like to give a bodyguard to my key creatures , she gives hexproof and has hexproof ! Best protection around with a 3 body and red hair ! The best is she only cost 30 cents , gimme 20 please ! It's one of the rare card in magic that gives protection and has protection , nonetheless the best protection Hexproof ...
The threat here is what's comming on curve after this , not before so you should shot it before it pairs.
