Very nice. Probably will replace Lightning Greaves in my deck, because it allows me to target the equipped creature whenever I want and without letting my guard down.

Also, giving an equip cost to this, even if it is only 1, makes it more balanced in my opinion.

Pretty nice. Probably won't replace Lightning Greaves in my deck, though it is tempting.

@KikiJikiTiki
Yeah, but I like using the greaves and Leonin Shikari to basically give all my creatures Shroud for free whenever I find it necessary.

It'll definitely find a place in my EDH deck, once I get around to making it.

I do not understand why people say this will replace greaves. This is run ALONGSIDE greaves!

Cheap casting cost, cheaper equip cost, and it protects whatever it is sitting on from removal. I can't see any significant downside.

Lightning Greaves don't see much constructed play. I doubt this will either.

@Elleran: I bet it will be in nearly every Commander deck, at least all the creature based ones.

So I could have lightning greaves, swiftfoot boots, AND whispersilk cloak in the same deck--that's classy.

Has anyone else noticed how ridiculous this card's name is? Just say that out loud to yourself: Swiftfoot Boots. Chuckle-worthy, at the very least.

Actually, Superllama12, equiping is sorcery speed. Thus, you could not do it in response to the doom blade or whatever. This is the reason for the higher equip cost, its added versatility

Lightning Greaves was overpowered. This is powerful and about right.

Worse than greaves, since it basically delays all your creatures by one turn, if you want them to have haste and be protected. Still good. 2.5/5

So, another Greaves for EDH? Woo, wizards, nice creativity there -.-

@Superllama12:

Sorceries can only be cast on an empty stack, thus if you activate the equip cost on Lightning Greaves of {0} and then an opponent responds with a kill spell, you couldn't activate the equip ability again, since the stack isn't empty until after the kill spell resolves. Unless of course you have a card that allows equip abilities to be used as instants, such as Leonin Shikari. Also there is no "unattach" ability. The only way to "unattach" equipment is to target another creature with the equip ability, cast the spell, then after it resolves target the original creature with the equip ability again.

That being said, I would definitely use this when infect creatures, since their biggest curse (aside from mutilated limbs) is their susceptibility to removal, the haste is a nice bonus and hexproof would allow you to pump up your creatures as well.

Adding mana to the equip cost really harms interactions with cards such as Nomads En-Kor, Cephalid Illusionist, and Leonin Shikari. It also harms your tempo each time you need equip it, taking away the real appeal of Lightning Greaves -- you just cast it once, and never invested anything further into it. The small improvement of Hexproof over Shroud doesn't offset the added cost; the awkward boot shuffle that sometimes occurs isn't so prevelant that it's worth paying mana to avoid. This is to Lightning Greaves as Darksteel Axe was to Bonesplitter.

I could see myself using Swiftfoot Boots as a slightly inferior copy of Lightning Greaves in an EDH deck, but it will never replace it's predecessor.

In limited, the card will live up to the art's promise: a kick to your opponent's junk with a fiery magic cowboy boot.

Really? Folks are complaining that the combo with Leonin Shikari now costs 1 to use instead of 0? It's still damned good, and that seems to me to be a small price to pay to get Hexproof instead of Shroud. Yeah, you could temporarily move the Greaves over to another creature if you wanted to target your creature yourself, but if you don't have the Shikari, that opens you up to any instant-speed removal (which is most of them).

@DICK (That sounds wrong)

Even more is give one of your creatures all equipments.

Although it'd make all of them technically redundant. I'm also not sure if something has shroud, if it could be equipped.
Can someone help, please?

@Superllama12 - It's gaining hexproof, not shroud...you can still target it with your own spells...

@Ferlord - From my understanding of shroud, it wouldn't allow equipping via the equip cost (since it targets). Via a non-targeting ability, though, is fair game.

Superior to Lightning Greaves in that you can pump your own creature up while these are equipped.
Throw these on an Aegis Angel who's protecting a key card (such as your planeswalker) to keep anything from touching your guy short of a Day of Judgment or Oblivion Stone.

not being as good as lightning greaves does not make this a bad card, and interesting to see what this does in standard.

also legacy and edh players, dont forget about puresteel paladin and auriok steelshaper. i run 4 each of both of those as well as leonin shikari, so this might actually replace greaves for me.. havent decided yet but i'm picking up a playset asap

I think personally this is Lightning Greaves on crack, toned down just a tiny bit with the equip cost. But it is low enough where it really does not affect you much unlike Argentum Armor or Skinwing. I mean, Lightning Greaves gives your creature protection from your spells to, this lets you enchant it still, so no taking off your boots to put on armor, you can still fling it, or boost it, or do whatever you want to the creature, whereas lightning greaves would not let you.

This decent piece of equipment has found a home in all my edh decks, 4.5/5. I like the move from shroud to hexproof, lately with all the equipment out there enchantments have started to become a lot less popular.

Better than greaves for certain purposes obviously, but perhaps a little less powerful. 4.5/5 seems fair. Always hate waiting a turn before sending in my fatties.

Turn 1- Either Raging Goblin or Slippery Bogle
Turn 2- Cast Lightning Greaves
Turn 3- Cast Swiftfoot boots, equip them to your creature, and then equip lightning greaves.

There. A creature so fast and so well covered, your opponent will concede at the sheer audacity of its footwear.

"BOOO! Not lightning greaves? It will never be close to lightning greaves.

The point is: giving a creature haste makes only sense if it has summoning sickness. So to make good use of this equipment, you'd have to constantly move it around, which is quite a pain since that costs mana.

Lightning Greaves did it right. They don't cost anything to equip, which is a great combination with haste. Add shroud and it's an awesome card. This card here sucks. Costing more mana to play, giving no shroud AND costing mana to move around. :|

1/5"

In a backdraft I had a choice to take a foil one of the or a foil Rune-Scarred Demon. I picked the demon but I'm not sure I made the right choice.

Lightning Greaves is way better... Even if it has shroud all you gotta do is un-equip the greaves for free, put your swords, enchantments, or whatever on the creature and re-equip the greaves.... Sure you cant instant speed buff the thing but who cares.

While very similar to Lightning Greaves, it is both better and worse depending on your situation.

For example, I run a Jenara, Asura of War EDH deck that wins by sticking a ton of enchantments and equipment onto Jenara and winning through commander damage. I run this in that deck over Greaves because this lets me continuously put equipments and enchantments on without having to fear instant speed removal.

However, I also run a Kaalia of the Vast deck the uses Lightning Greaves and not this. I don't care about targeting Kaalia with anything other than the Greaves to begin with, so they're more helpful then the Boots because they equip for free, essentially letting me swing a turn earlier to get my big creatures for free before someone panic kills Kaalia.

In other situations, they're pretty much equal.

If you like equipment, Auras or the occasional giant growth, then this will probably be more useful for you than Lightning greaves. On the other hand, if you like haste a lot and feel like swapping this out every turn, you should really stick to good old greaves.

I think this is the better designed card, but as for power I think they are actually pretty interchangeable.

You can still fling a creature wearing lightning greaves as sacrificing isn't targeted.

It basically adds 1 to the casting cost of your creatures, but rewards you for being harder to remove. Its way more balanced then lightning greaves.

While I can see why Lightning Greaves is preferred for the zero equip cost, it's Swiftfoot Boots is not strictly worse. I've had at least one situation in which I had a LG equipped commander which I was attempting to target with my own spell, which I couldn't do as a result of shroud. As soon as I equipped it to something else, the commander was immediately targeted by an opposing player. If memory serves correctly, it was the same player that reminded me that I couldn't target it while it was equipped.

All it takes is one second without your boots for your opponent to kill your creature. If you run a deck where you want to target your creatures a lot, this can be better than lightning greaves. People acting like you can just unequip the boots seem to forget that fact. You pay Zero to equip your boots to another creature. Then I play Path to Exile. Enjoy your land.

Not trying to say it's better than Lightning Greaves, that certainly has it's advantages. We don't need to state them, because well they are obvious. Sure Greaves are usually better. Probably better in most decks, but not always better. Definitely not. There is a reason to use these.

For example in My Commander Deck I use Derevi as the general. One of the things I like about her is I can use her to tap my creatures to use their effects again, or to give creatures psuedo vigilance. I can't do that if they have shroud. I can if they have hexproof.
