I love Living Weapon.
Passionately.

But what the *** is up with that equip cost?

When I first read this I though "Oh 2/2 flyer for 4 colourless, that's okay I guess."

Then I saw the 6.

I fell in Love with 'Living Weapon' the day I saw the first spoiler about it.
But this is card is so bad... I have no clue how you could destroy such a great Idea with such crappy cards.

6? Why?

When you consider rarity and cost/effect ratio, this is is the worst card in the set, in my opinion.

4 Mana for a +2/+2 +Fly Equipment. Eh. no
4 Mana for a +2/+2 Fly creature with no abilities heck no.
4 Mana for a +2/+2 +Fly Living Weapon Equipment. You know? Already you got my attention. So equip for like what? 1 - 2 mana?

6 to Equip. Good bye.

I want to slap everyone who dogs this card. The reason the equip cost is so high is because if you can get it on a creature with infect, you win. This card was one of my MVP's at the prerelease

This card is 100x better than it looks in limited. If you are playing infect, this card wins games by itself. Putting this on Phyrexian Juggernaut is GG for most limited decks. Plus the living weapon is great as well, often trading for one of the opponents cards. Ok, so 6 is a lot for +2+2 flying, especially if the creatures you are playing don't need evasion. But if you play limited like me, (Draft or sealed) and are making an infect deck, this is a card not to pass up. (It won me numerous games at the prerelease)

Yeah, this isn't by any means bad card in limited. It's reasonably costed artifact flyer, that leaves artifact for metalcraft after his death in battle. Though equip cost is high as hell, you'll still be more than happy to have it on stalled board. Pretty high pick in draft.

Love the mechanic. With Phreysis, that 2/2 flying goes virulent and kicks your opponents as.s.

this is actually a very solid card,

4 for a 2/2 flier sounds meh, but compare it to playing a creature, playing an equipment and equipping it and its not so bad,

now in besieged with infect and whatnot, flying and +2/+2 on an infect creature is simply insane, it should win you the game in a turn or two, and on a defending infect creature you can completely shut down any flying, I lost at the pre release because we played someone with heaps of flying and I couldnt stop it

also take into account there are quite a few cards that make equip costs free, or cheaper in mirrodin, old and new, and zendikar

+ it has a mega badass picture

You either draft this card for a 2/2 flier without any color requirements or to give an infect creature +2/+2 and evasion.

Development tests these cards like crazy so obviously it costs 6 to equip for a reason. If it was aggressively costed for constructed then it would break limited. 4 without color requirement for a 2/2 flier in limited is NOT overcosted. Get over it.

This card is pretty much game over in infect...Has won me several games in limited...
The equip is not over-costed....Anything less and everyone would be crying OP...

An example of living weapon being so overcosted on so many of the cards. If it wasn't it would see some constructed play, but only bonehoard and one or two others will.

I'm convinced, with 6 mana, you could give any given infect creature MUCH better than +2/+2 and flying. There is no excuse for this. Just play Rage Reflection or Beastmaster Ascension instead, and watch them actually fear your threats instead of Pistus Striking it.

I understand about Infect and Limited. Really, I do- it has powerful potential there...

would an equip cost of 5 been too good, really? I'm honestly afraid of 4-in Infect World, this cannot be allowedto equip for 4. but 5, surely might be better than either 4 or 6, development wise?

Something that would allow it to shine be playable outside of Infect would have been nice. Ornithopter with a Bonesplitter is better.

If it was rare, it would be equip 4.

What is the matter?
There ARE destroy artifact spells, counterspells and blockers.

This is just so annoying. Why not 5 equip cost?
At 6, you might as well cast Massacre Wurm from the same set, to an likely greater effect.

1 for the art.

I was going to reduce the rating because they published a 3 cmc equipment that equips for 4 with added bonuses, but...
The art is THAT good and I forgot it is a 0 already, without the art.

@Frostraven: Judging from your comment, I would say that you have never played limited before. Massacre Wurm is a mythic rare, and your chances of getting it in a draft are really really small, let alone getting to cast it on turn 6 without your opponent doing something to stop you.
This card is really really good for a limited infect deck, and I can say so because I've drafted this set 5 times. Equipping an infect creature with this usually makes it a 3 (or less) turn clock in limited, and that is definitely worth the cost considering it's an uncommon.

@TheWrathofShane: I'm sorry, all I read was "I don't like my boosters because I don't draw 15 Sword of Feast and Famine from each of them". If you don't like opening cards from boosters that you can't use, buy the cards you need as singles on the internet instead of buying boosters - it's really that simple!

Of course, outside of limited, this card isn't really that good, but in limited, having a colorless 2/2 flyer that doubles as an equipment that makes your infect creatures nearly unblockable for 4 mana is really awesome. The equip-cost of 6 is probably so that you won't just be able to equip it the turn after you play it and swing for the win. That extra 1 mana lets the opponent have a fair shot at removing it before you send your 4/4 flying Rot Wolf into the red zone. Mind you, infect decks only need to deal 10 damage to win the game, so that +2/+2 on a regular creature pretty much translates into +4/+2 on an infect creature if we assume that your regular opponent starts with 20 life and won't gain any life during the match. With this in mind, I can definitely see why they wanted to make this an expensive equipment. This card is well-designed and really good at fulfilling its purpose - 4/5

By the way, since it seems like a lot of people only care about constructed, let me tell you that a large part of the Magic tournaments actually consists of the limited format. You don't have to open tonnes of boosters or buy really expensive cards to win tourneys; just get good at drafting and win that way. It's a lot more affordable.

Much, much better than it seems. A 2/2 for four mana is acceptable though unexciting, but he's colorless, so feel free to play this puppy in your green deck.

The six mana to equip is prohibitive, until you actually do it on your random 3/3 and create almost a shivan dragon.

Of course it is too expensive to see play in constructed, but whatever. Not all of us are tournament players.

So I guess the equip cost is justified because of "limited". What a lame excuse to make a card nearly unplayable in constructed. Your already overpaying for a 2/2 flyer, and then you got to pay the ridiculous equip cost because "its too good in limited". Last time I checked, Wind Drake didn't see constructed play.

Screw limited! Your logic is the reason why grey ogres and hill giants trash-pile my booster packs.

@ GrimjawxRULES
The problem I have is the huge difference in powerlevel between "limited fillers" and "constructed worthy". Like this could have had equip cost reduced by 3 and it wouldnt see constructed play.... for real... But yet you still defend the system?

Not everycard needs to be an all star, but why print garbage like this? Only going to get played 1 time in the stupid limited money sink draft, and then going to get thrown away or given out or just collecting dust in a big box....

I mean if the powerlevel was increased (STILL NOT CONSTRUCTED WORTHY), then unfortunate noobs who actually have to use this garbage wont get laughed at.
