Truely a fantastic Equipment, cheap, hard to deal with. Obvious synergy with Phylactery lich and other Equipment lovers (Kemba, Kha regent or Armament master)
Not to be underestimated in limited. Combo potential in constructed.

You know, the moment you play this, it is destined to behead your opponent in the end.

This is a great cheap and durable equipment card. The equip cost of 2 for a permanent +2/+0 effect isn't bad. As mentioned before, the synergy with Phylactery Lich is obvious, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this equipment show up in other standard play decks.
In an all Scars of Mirrodin limited format this card is great. Last I had drafted a blue/red deck, containing 2 Trinket Mages, a Bloodshot Trainee and a Spikeshot Elder, worked brilliantly. Goblin Gaveleer also likes this card. Good early pick, i think.

I like it for it's indestructibility. Good, cheap damage. As for the Phylactery Lich combo, not so hot. Revoke Existance two for one's Phylactery Lich here, and anything that bounces an artifact, shuffles, or something to that effect, 1.5 for one's.

Not bad, but worse than bonesplitter. There is a huge difference between paying 1 mana or 2 mana to equip in aggressive decks.

Well, I still prefer Bonesplitter, since I like being able to both play and equip it on my one-drop on turn two. But there's really nothing to complain about with this successor either. While slightly more cumbersome, the fact that it takes a licking and keeps on ticking is handy. Puts me a bit in mind of Rancor. Only, ya know, less insane...

Bonesplitter was never a high-profile artifact that needed to be destroyed. Paying 2 mana for +2/+0 is not worth indestructibility. I'd run Trusty Machete before Darksteel Axe any day...but even that isn't as good as the almighty Bonesplitter for aggro-equip decks.
That said, this card is still great in limited.

Well, indestructibility has it's uses, specially when you wipe out the whole board. This makes those little Elspeth tokens a lot scarier, and you can use your Ratchet Bombs with one counter without losing it. Bonesplitter might be better in most cases, but not always. Also, with infect, that other axe would be broken, this one is just good.

Unless you REALLY need the indestructable, Trusty Machete is a better choice. Still, a fun thing to play in limited.

I'm pretty sure the only way to destroy this is to exile it or use Animate Artifact on it. And the animate artifact strategy would be extremely last ditch.

If your playing artifact hate with things like manic vandal and oxidda scrapmelter, this becomes an acceptable choice. Especially if your opponent has no artifacts. Though liquimetal coating may be more useful in that respect.

only put this and Blighsteel Colossus as artifacts in your deck
I like this in EDH in my deck with very few artifacts in it. I like the power boost on wimpy creatures and this equipment won't get destroyed on a whim. It's not rare for someone to have some noncreature removal machine gun set up on the board.

The question i think is about darksteel axe being better much better than Bonesplitterand Trusty Machete when Tezz is on the table
search the axe with stoneforge
trinket mage a darksteel axe then shape anew that into a blightsteel colossus... BANG

Its no bonesplitter, but with acidic slime running around, the indestructible comes in handy. Unlike bonesplitter, this is not in tempo with drop creatures, but is with drops.

Far prefer Bonesplitter... This might be playable if it were 2 to play and 1 to equip.

Viable alternative to darksteel relic, if you happen to have a deck that makes use of darksteel relic (I'm looking at you, phylactory lich).
