Yes, yes: you can sacrifice creatures in addition to artifacts for this card, but I'd still much rather find a way to make Shrapnel Blast work in a deck.
Lightning Blast was ill-received, and it's hard not to see some parallels to that card as well. One more damage doesn't seem to justify the sacrifice of a whole permanent.

not terrible but compare to goblin grenade or shrapnel blast...

I'd use this with the wellsprings any day. Especially the new one.

:/ I don't like this pattern of theirs where they take good iconic red cards, tweak it slightly and raise the cost up to 4. This is to shrapnel blast as fodder launch is to goblin grenade.

@scumbling very good points. But in Draft i Dont Mind It , not at all. I WUV Shrappy Blast
this wouldn't be that bad in a red weenie or token deck. If anyone still uses Jund, this could be cool with Kresh, the Bloodbraided or Mycoloth. So long as Kresh has trample, you can sacrifice all other creatures and tokens that mycoloth produced to boost him while doing 5 damge to the face. Attack and trample over all of their guys and win

Four mana AND sacrificing a creature or artifact... eeew... Well, in decks in which you really want to sacrifice stuff, it's not bad. But just slapping into decks because you need burn is a pretty bad idea.

You can use this on one of your creatures that is about to die. It still is bad compared to Shrapnel Blast.

Well, Shrapnel Blast was broken anyways. I like this.

A bit more versatile, but the cost stops this card from being great. They could have at least let you pay two life instead of , am I right?

Well, certainly not constructed quality, barring some crazy combo, but definitely usable in draft and sealed. Lost a few games to a sudden Artillerize.

I like this card a lot better after winning a couple games at the prerelease with it. I might make a deck with it, the wellsprings, Slag Fiend, and Scrapyard Salvo.
Key word there is "might."

Trading in a chump blocker for 5 damage at their head or best creature at *instant* speed is huge. Criminally underrated!
This card is amazing in RDW! You have to think combos with it. Once your first turn Goblin Guide stops dealing damage by turn 3 or 4, you can sack him to it so you get value out of him. Also, with Perilous Myr you get 7 damage total with it. Tuktuk the Explorer, perfect excuse to sac him. Magma Phoenix? swing, sac it with this, and you get another 3 damage that can wipe their board if needed to turn the tables. Turn your land into a 4/4 with Koth, swing and them sac it too, not like you need more than 4 mountains in a RDW anyways. Moltensteel Dragon? swing, pump him with a little life, but not too much to kill yourself, then sacrifice. The new red Shrine too, if you draw it late, you can always sac it with this too. This card is quite good, trust me. People won't realize it until later, just like they did with Frost Titan, Stoneforge Mystic and Inquisition of Kozelik. This card rules.

Cerebral eruption adds a +2 to the already 5 coming at ya! I'll pay 4 for 7 and repeat twice for the win. Not thrilled with the card by any means but, it's better than the hammer aye?

I personally love this card, it's actually very versatile. You can trash your spent trigons, your chump blocking hovermyr, your wellsprings or an extra flavorful goblin token. My favorite play: opponent was at 16, I attacked with Mortis Dogs and an unblocked Hovermyr- artillerized mortis dogs for 10 total. End of opponents turn Noxious Revival the Artillerize. One more sting with Hovermyr and then away he goes for the finisher.

The card pairs well with artifacts/creatures with "when placed in graveyard from the battlefield" effects, like Perilous Myr or Ichor Wellspring. Also works well with any Act of Treason / Metallic Mastery type cards to sac the card before giving control back.
Outside of decks that make use of such effects, or rely upon cards being in the graveyard, it's hardly useful that useful except to maybe get more use out of a chump blocker before it deals non-lethal combat damage.

I know there are a few uses for this card, but with them reprinting Goblin Grenade in M12, it kind of makes you wonder why they'd bother printing a pale homage now.

Hey, you! Red deck there! You now have a reason to use Mycosynth and Ichor Wellsprings! Have fun!

this would have been better-costed at 3 mana. as is, it will see no play.

So how do you destroy an indestructible Darksteel Relic! SHOOT IT OUTTA CANNON, MOTHAFRUFFAS!!!
Instant speed and can use artifacts as fuel. Gee, I wonder why a Phyrexian card might use artifacts as fuel for their abilities? It's not like they want artifacts in their graveyard ever or-
Oh, wait. That's right. They do. A lot. Amazing freaking card, too handy.
very good especially in the SCARS block since there are a lot of cards that give you candy when they die OculusMyr Sire so you can add the affect on like a splice into arcane

If its not countered, boom, 7 damage to the face on turn 4 or earlier.
