Garruk seems like the perfect green card to sow someone if you want to describe the fundamentals of what green is trying to achieve.

solid but doesnt quite compare to some of the more powerful PW's..

I like how Garruk's +1 combos with the Primeval Titan's fetch land ability. Unfortunately, my little brother managed to spill a glass of tea on his green deck and ruined our copy of Garruk.

Just as broken as ever. Wizards, please take this to heart. If you keep reprinting broken cards or cards that cost more than fifty dollars, you will start losing players en masse. Try to remember when cards didn't have huge price tags stopping the Average Joe the Magic Player from buying them. Now I'm not saying that this is hugely expensive, but it is far to broken with the other green cards in this set, in my opinoin.

Easily ranks with the most overpowered walkers. He comes out turn 3 more often than not in a green deck, and almost always untaps lands and another decent drop follows. Turn 4 opens up so much with him out, even if your other mana creatures have died off. He's usually seen as a creature engine or non-counterable overrun, but his land untaps are devastating. Him and Primeval Titan together are just crazy.

I think garruk is actually the perfect planeswalker.. he's not so nuts over powered that you are like *bleep* when you're opponent plays it, like nissa as well, but its still powerful. Also keeping in mind his abilities are all things that are already on various green cards, from untapping lands to his beast ability (call of the herd). He also quintessentially shows what green is about.. mana ramping, beasties, and lots of power.

On the how expensive planeswalkers are.. yes I have to agree with that. I've wanted a gideon jura for about 4 or 5 months but he still costs like 30+ dollars per card. By the time the price goes down its because they rotate and are a) either not as good as they once were or b) because they aren't in standard or extended any longer and therefore not playable in the format I want to use them in. On the other hand, wotc prints duel decks to bring down the prices, which is one of the reasons elspeth is dropping and so is garruk, and original jace and chandra are down to 3-4 a piece. The only problem is those duel decks tend to take a while to come out. By the time the elspeth deck is out shards of alara will have rotated.

I love this guy, his abilities for mana, creatures, and power just seems to epitomize green for me.

btw, is it pronounced with the first sylable emphisized and a short u, or the second emphasis with long u? And is there a reference for card pronunciations?

demonic angel I dont see your point there is not a single card in m11 that coasts more then 30$s when they reprint a card its price goes down a lot so reprinting expensive cards is a good way to deal with there price.

This is my favorite planeswalker. But then again I'm bias when it comes to green cards. I just love green. It's the best color. And Garruk is just awesome. The untap two lands is just sexy.

Garruk stole his helmet from Venser, Shaper Savant

I think garruk is the perfect balance between power, price, and utility for a planeswalker. I want more planeswalkers as balanced as garruk to play with.

A great card, and very good in Eldrazi Ramp decks. Can actually get out an Ulamog the turn after he comes out, even without other mana accelerants (3 'normal' lands + 2 Eldrazi Temple = 11 mana using Garruk's +1 = Ulamog/Kozilek).

He's also one of those cards, and those planeswalkers in particular, which are totally fantastic in both constructed and limited. I was really bummed last week when I opened one in a SOM/SOM/M11 draft (odd, I know) after already going heavily into UB control. Had I opened it first, would've certainly rated the green cards higher in the packs.

@Dragonking - heard of Primeval Titan? =P Definitely over $30, and has been since just about the first day M11 came out.

If he's so powerful, and he is, then why is he nowhere in the tournament scene? Wouldn't he at least have a slot in one of them fancy ramp decks that are so popular nowadays?

His +1 is fun with the cycle of lands from Ravnica block like Simic Growth Chamber. Add one loyalty counter and four mana to your mana pool.

This card is great! Perfectly balanced, yet very powerful. He isn't the most broken PW, but he's the most fair, which makes him the best in my book.

@ ChampionofSquee:

Same helmet, same illustrator. Venser, Shaper Savant and this card were both done by Alexi Briclot.

when looking for a Planeswalker for my infect deck, I couldn't think of any one better then the strong, rugged, wild, Garruk! 5/5

Very fun planeswalker. Probably my favorite, although Nissa is very close behind (I love green stuff so thats mostly why).

Just what I need to compliment all of my greens like Kalonian Behemoth and Verdant Force.

Love playing him with Oran-Rief, the Vastwood. Two of them out and suddenly your Llanowar Elves come out as 5/5. Also crazy to increase the size of a Genesis Wave, then next turn boost them all for a huge army.

I love playing Garruk he is a simple yet amazing planeswalker to be using in green

@ Laguz

I am running a heavy mana ramp in my beast deck at the moment, I use arbor elfs, overgrowth and garruk to turn out huge beasts in turn 3 and i can kill people with over 1800 damage by turn 5.(around 600 with a realistic draw. I run like ths

turn 1: forest and arbor elf
turn 2: tap both forests and arbor elf and play overgrowth on one of the forests
turn 3: tap the forest with overgrowth and a 2nd forest, play garruk and unap both forest and then tap all lands fr 8 mana and then play terastodon and destoy all of my opponents lands or mine if i need creatures

turn 4 i then use overwhelming stampede and the game is more or less won.

Can you use Garruk's 3rd ability EVEN though your lands are already tapped?

Ok question about the first ability of Garruk Wildspeaker and others with that ability like Arbor Elf, let’s say you have a card in your hand that cost 5 mana but have only 3 lands and you have Garruk out. Could you use his first ability to play the card? Same question with the elf if you hand four lands.

@GodWars
Yes of course! Tap the lands, float 3 mana, untap them, tap for 2. 2+3=5.

they're making a new one in M12 it's called Garruk the primal hunter, it's cool, they made his -1 his plus one his -3 lets you draw cards equal to the highest power of a creature you controll and -6 put a 6/6 wurm creature token for each land you controll loualty 3
it looks cool but I don't know it seems a little over powered to me.

He has the best hat of any planeswalker to date.

I agree that he is one of the strongest 'walkers. I think that he is over looked because he keeps under the radar so well. Mana ramping usually isn't identified as a threat (until Primeval started tearing things up), and Garruk alone, can't win games anymore than Overrun can. You need a field to make them work. Sure, he makes tokens. But each one puts him one turn away from popping his final. It's the beauty of the ramping, which enables extension, plus the additional counter that puts him in overrun mode the turn after you play him. One turn clocks HURT!

Out of all the plainswalkers Garruk is the best, though Nicol Bolas is good too. In one game I had 3 Garruks on the battlefield and 20 3/3 green beast creature tokens too. Garruk is a perfect addition to any forest deck.

Myrlover : sorry dude but you were cheating cause you can have more than one Garruk in play , legend's rules applies .
I got this in 2011 and Lorwyn , the lorwyn is less greener like dry grass , someone else noticed that ?

Hmm, in my green deck with Utopia Sprawl and Arbor Elf I can potentially play this turn 2 and still have 3 mana to use thanks to the untap ability (best case scenario I'd use it on Strangleroot Geist plus Rancor). If I get a Groundbreaker next turn I could swing for 16 next turn. Must try that out. The overrun ability is something that deck is lacking right now.
