Less horrible than the other legends in the block. Not by much, though.

If you can flicker, bounce, or otherwise play this guy multiple times in a turn, do you trigger his first ability that many times? If so, I think I've found my new best friend.

jetzine: Yep - it's a delayed triggered ability.

I imagine it would be really fun to use this guy back in the day when he wouldn't have been outclassed by so many cards

Richard Kane-Furgeson is an amazing artist. This card has some playability, if only you got those tokens that turn...

Now that I think of it, I should really put Shields of Velis Vel into my Hazezon Tamar EDH deck.

Richard Kane-Furgeson is awesome. I've always loved his artwork, in this and other CCG's. I would like to build a theme deck around his art, but he has yet to draw any land :-(

Maybe an edh deck with landfall and multicolor themes? realm razer's the right color and so is the aforementioned Knight of New Alara. Would be fun to try at least.

Knight of New Alara and Sigil Captain make Hazezon's sand men very happy. The Shadowmoor/Eventide lords are great as well. That being said; it's not very efficient outside of EDH/Commander, obviously. I definitely prefer this guy over Rith, as a general, though. Not to mention the art is simply fantasic. Obscure commander choice plus the classy art will definitely get you some positive attention at the table.
I use him in EDH, but not as a general. Yet. He's running in my Mayael deck at the moment. Sigil Captain and Knight of New Alara as has been mentioned are crazy; just be sure to drop the Knight AFTER the tokens come in, or the Captain won't have any effect on them.
I've been toying around with the idea of running him as a general. I haven't really decided what to do with him yet, though. Jetzine - Yes, you can make a truckload of tokens if you can bounce this guy and play him multiple times in one turn. Doing so without Blue is tough but possible.

It might actually be beneficial to sac this guy the turn you play him so your opponent can't just Doom Blade him and take all your tokens too.
Also, hard to do because of the mana costs, but blinking him on the turn you play him would be pretty amazing.

If I'm reading it right, you can bounce him to exile your opponents' Changeling creatures?

This guy reminds me a ton of Pharoah Atem's dad when he used the Millenium Items the first time....anyone else watch the 7th Season of Yu-Gi-Oh?!

you can filker him so his ability tigers a few times and then sac him before his tokens come out

Somewhat playable for a legend from Legends.
Shame that if you exile him with Venser his tokens die, so you can't make more and more... unless maybe you Stifle the last ability.

Speaking of the sillyness synergy with this, army of allah, and jihad, Has anyone else noticed that if you have 7 lands when you cast him, and hes the only nontoken creature on your field, the total power and toughness on your side of the board will equal 9/11?

I really, really want to build that Naya token EDH deck now. Probably with Rith as the general, but this guy is definitely an auto-include. Rhys the Redeemed can make a lot of Sand Warriors.

I've been using this guy as my commander for a few months now - I traded out Rith, the Awakener for him. He works differently than Rith. The old deck would generate tokens through some means, use Rith to make more, and eventually overwhelm, with a 6/6 flying commander as a backup. It was always just a better idea to go for the commander damage, though, since Rith has to get through to make more tokens anyway. I mostly use Hazezon as a repeatable, increasing-cost sorcery to make a crapload of tokens, which lets me reliably have a presence.
Ramp is so important in this deck, because of the prevalence of board-wipe effects, so you can still cast Hazezon over and over. I run only 12 nonbasic lands in the deck, in case I run into an Armageddon, since I have a backup plan as Planar Birth.
I highly recommend him as a commander. Tokens are awesome.

Wow this card is actually a powerhouse. When it hits the field can produce at least 7 1/1s, 1 glorious anthem effect and opponent is in deep trouble.
But one drawback to him. The tokens dont come out until next upkeep and have summoning sickness, so it will be 2 turns before you can attack.
A weird part about him, is that if he is removed before the tokens come, the tokens will still spawn. And they will no longer have the option to remove him and take out the tokens.

I run a motherload of ramp effects, my favorites being Perilous Forays and Boundless Realms. I previously had more means of sacrificing him, but now I use High Market and Miren, the Moaning Well along with a few Tutors (Expedition Map, Sylvan Scrying and Reap and Sow, specifically).
