See: Diamond Valley

Miren, the Moaning Well has the advantage of being able to be tapped for mana, but its ability costs mana to activate.

it also has another advantage of costing about 65-70 dollars less. xD

Nonetheless, I would rather run Phyrexian tower, City of Shadows or High Market for a free sack outlet, life it irrelevant until you are dead and those can save quite a bit or in some cases add quite a bit of mana.

In a BlueBlack deck with Kozilek, Emraklu, and Ulamog and you have lots of life gain that shuffles your graveyard into your libray. Have Polymorph and Corpsehatch in that graveyard!

@karmaspayment: Yeah? 'cept City of Shadows EXILES it. Not particularly useful as a way to get dudes in your graveyard, if you ask me. I use Miren because it's a cheap moneywise and legendary, which is immeasurably valuable in my Captain Sisay EDH deck.

Not bad, but I much prefer High Market. Diamond Valley can't tap for mana, and Miren is too expensive to activate. The Market got it just right, as it can kill your creatures efficiently, and the life you miss out on hardly matters.

Sure, this costs more than Diamond Valley, but just how often are you going to use the ability, anyway? Once, maybe twice a game? The mana this gives you on the turns you're not sacrificing anything is probably enough to make up for the 3 you spend to activate the sacrifice ability.

Use it to snatch back your Minion of the Wastes before it (or you) dies.

Phyrexian Processor - Pay 10 life, pop out minions- attack, then sac if necessary.

Flavorful, but how useful is it really?

Sees use in EDH decks (judging from these comments), but then again, EDH is where janky cards go to die.

This card is pretty tasty in modern. I rock it in a Grand architect build that abuses Vedalken Shackles . Usually for a late game soft creature lock, tutor up an expedition map with trinket mage to find the miren. It also helps to mitigate path to exile shenanigans when you can sac a wurmcoil to yourself in response to generate your Wurm tokens. Love this card.
