Yep, that is most certainly high.

1 life for a creature?!

That's absurd! I won't do it for less than 3 life!

... Okay, 2 life.

... Okay, fine, you win.

Interesting card. If your deck can make this a good card...your deck is very good. It's not that the card is bad, it's just not something you can stick anywhere for no reason.

I think I may put this in my Lord of Tresserhorn EDH deck. The deck is built to mitigate his obvious drawback, mainly with creatures that do cool stuff when they die (i.e. Keiga, the Tide Star, Tuktuk the Explorer, Noble Benefactor etc.). This would be a good sac outlet when Tressy's already on the battlefield.

You hit the nail on the head Darth, This is the sort of card you build your deck around and in that deck it would be quite strong.

I just recently traded off my original High Market. Some regrets are had. =

If you're after the life gain, use Miren, the Moaning Well instead. If you're after an efficient and hard to remove sacrifice outlet, use High Market.

A sturdy sacrifice engine on your land.
Also taps for 1 and doesn't come into play tapped.

Sometimes tokens wander into the High Market.

Sometimes they don't wander back out.

Could be fun with Red steal effects like Mark of Mutiny.

Fantastic in EDH. If you're here for the lifegain, look at Miren, the Moaning Well instead.
This card and Phyrexian Tower are incredible in EDH decks that rely on having their commander available to them, as you can respond to an effect like Terminus or Chaos Warp by sacrificing your commander, thus saving it from your library and instead putting it into your command zone. Also, the free sacrifice can be key in a graveyard-based deck, where it's a common occurrence to want a creature in your graveyard rather than on your field.

Basically, free sac outlets that also tap for mana are insane. Don't miss out on these.

Makes reusable chump blockers with Trading Post. Flavorful too! Sits at the center point of my mercantile-themed Zedruu deck.
