Incredibly powerful card, can get you the one card you really need in any situation for little cost. This can set any lethal combo in motion much faster than waiting to draw it out.

I'm not complaining, but why are Demonic Tutor & Diabolic Tutor both uncommon. Demonic is far better for obviious reasons

This card will oneday reprinted, only way to get it is online, a huge card shop,or the Duel deck. The duel decks were worth it, plus 2 darkrituals in it as well.

Love the art on the DvsD reprint. The beauty of this card is, it's whatever card you want it to be. :)
so this is where liliana learned how to tutor, lol
side note, anyone know the demon in the picture's name?

It may be banned, but thankfully bans don't apply to casual play. Unless you and your opponent agree to hold to the banned/restricted lists. I may have bought Divine vs. Demonic just for this card.

do you have to find a card with this?
i know if it had specifications, you are able to choose not to find one, but since it just says card, can you choose not to grab anything?

tutors are just amazingly powerful. essentially allows you to have an extra chance at getting any given card, bypassing the 4-card quota. even though this is restricted in vintage, just add a vamp tutor, maybe imperial seal if you can afford it, and you've nearly doubled your chances at getting whatever you need.

@Havens: ...Why in the world would you cast this and NOT put a card into your hand? Taking any card you want from your library for only {1}{B} is way too good to pass up.

I do casual play, but I do refer to DCI Vintage list to keep things fair. This card is restricted in Vintage, not banned. I keep one copy in my vampire deck, along with another restricted copy of Vampiric Tutor. I don't have problem playing it, as some of my "casual" players I meet are hard-core collectors. Against people with decks running 10 planes walkers and 4 mind sculptors.... Some opponent decks are designed for turn 3 or 4 win combos. One of this card evens the tide a bit. I use the two tutor cards plus one copy of Doomsday for my Vampire Hexmage and Dark Depths combo. I also have an alternative win condition: Consume Spirit and Nirkana Revenant combo.

Maybe they could reintroduce a cheap tutor, but put a curse-like catch on it?

Yeah, Dingo... It's Kothoped. Did the same artist do the comic and this card? 'Cause they look really similiar. Oh... Liliana blew Kothoped's brains out. Just thought you might like to know.

Strange! Traditionally demons are described as most deceptive and malevolent beings, but in MtG they are instead the most reliable and cost effective sources of information. That's contradictory and not flavorful at all.
The card here is of course broken beyond all reason.

Help me to understand something... I have 4 of the Revised edition DT. That cards is now 19 yrs old! Wow, I'm getting old.. That sucks :( Any who, how is it possible that I can currently purchase a playset of the revised DT for approximately $35 (including shipping) yet if I wanted to do the same with this BRAND STINKIN NEW version, it's just about DOUBLE the price?! And that for a card that was as easy to come by as walking into your neighborhood super target and buying the preconstructed package with 2 complete ready to play decks for a little more than the individual price of this single card which happens to be less than 2 yrs old right now!! Makes no sense. Insane. What it tells me is, sell your Mox's and Lotus's, your Time reversals and Time Walks, your Thoughtseize's n Clique's and so on and so forth NOW, while the getting is good. Everyone else that wants one, just wait. Sooner or later they will be reprinted (even if they're banned) and when that happens the new ones will be worth double the old ones. An investment, as most people know, is like gambling. Only they flipped it on us! Now they took the gamble part out and as long as you A). Know your history. And B). Know that history will repeat itself, then you're all set! Just be patient, watch for the deck list spoilers and then play middle man by buying them all up, waiting 600 days and double your investment! Shoot, Magic the Gathering pays better dividends then BANKS. And there's NO risk! I love it : P

Best Duel Decks series card, ever, period. no arguments. Counting Mythics.

EDIT: Now with the Release of Innistrad Block, I've decided to do a Two-Part Case File/Vorthos' Dissertation on Liliana Vess/Liliana of the Veil. Follow the link to see Part One.
Duel Decks: Divine/Demonic; Liliana/Garruk- Kothoped (Demonic Tutor) decides to send Liliana after a powerful ancient evil magical artifact of doomyness. Garruk and Liliana meet, she curses him casually and forgets all about him, Garruk develops an unnatural obsession over her. Damn women. Liliana, upon acquiring the Chain Veil, and being a Black Mage, sees a new way to win: Kill the Boss(es). Innistrad: Kothoped destroyed, hunting Griselbrand. Not only probably kills Griselbrand with aid from Sorin and Avacyn, I could even see Avacyn and Sorin encouraging Liliana to take Gissa the ghoulcaller with her when she leaves. Dark Ascension: Helvault spoiled, Griselbrand almost as much as a shoe-in for Avacyn Restored as Asha was for Alara Reborn.....wait. Well, either way, I'm the first to try autocarding Griselbrand. :)
Avacyn Restored: I really can't imagine both Garruk, the Veil-Cursed and Liliana of the Veil 'Walking away from Innistrad alive. Garruk's 'story' is that he had a childhood, did some stuff, is a green Planeswalking Beast Hunter, and now is Cursed by 'the Witch', and Liliana's story is that she's 100-years old, makes pacts with Demons and Nicol Bolas frivolously, and now has a powerful ancient evil magical artifact of doomyness, with no moral scruples. She might also be seducing Jace, the Mind Sculptor as a side hobby. One of these characters has no current purpose in life without the other, while Liliana had an entire intriguing unresolved world-spanning plot with all of the Who's-Who in the Multiverse before she'd even met Garruk. Sorry Beast Boy, of all the forests in all the planes in all the Multiverse, she just happened to be 'Walking through yours. :p

@lukemol: Anyone who doesn't AT LEAST honor vintage-level bannings/restrictions in casual games probably has a special place reserved for them in Hell. ;-) Play "casual" with someone who runs four of these with four Ancestral Recall, four Time Walk and four Black Lotus? Nooooooooooooooo thanks!

@Mike-C: this is a limited edition reprint - of course it's going to be expensive. I'll take a wild guess and say that there exists at least four times as many Demonic Tutors from Revised as from the Devine vs. Demonic set. Also, the art is nice, and the card has the modern card frame and black borders. All of these things make the card more appealing and probably causes an increase in demand. I personally own 3: got one from the Divine vs. Demonic set and got the other two through trade, and I can only say that they look incredibly good.

Ferlord
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Heeheehee RevLycan. Yes, you can just play 1 if it's "restricted".
I appreciate your desire to get back into Magic, but what you're suggesting is to get into Vintage. In Vintage, you can essentially play 1 copy of any of the cards banned in Legacy. As in, you could play 1 copy of Black Lotus ($3000+/ea), 1 copy of Ancestral Recall ($600+), 1 copy of Time Walk ($500+), etc. etc. etc. People really don't play Vintage. It's far too expensive to spend nearly $10,000 on a deck that only you and a few others can play. It's like the Fortune 500 of the Magic community.
If you have a Tutor and want to play it, start in EDH (Commander). It's legal there, you only need 1 copy of each spell (since you can't play more than 1 copy of a spell (excluding basic lands)), and many, MANY more people play EDH. It's perhaps the most popular casual format.
But in terms of Tutor, I love how there's new art for (arguably) the best card in Black. As many can tell, cards made pre-2003 (pre-new border) had a different, more 'story book' art style than now. Now, cards are darker, and use more definite shapes and figures. It's good WotC gave this card new art to compliment the old art, similar to Dark Ritual. In fact, it's the same situation. Now all we need is a duel deck that has Yawgmoth's Will, Mind Twist, Sinkhole, and Vampiric Tutor.

I can fix this "Curse of Liliana" 2ccm Enchantment. When Curse of Liliana comes into play search your library for any card and put it into your hand. At the beginning of your upkeep Curse of Liliana deals 2 damage to you.
