@moxen: I would disagree, as you can tutor a card with 1 higher of a mana cost and still play it that turn, provided you cast it during your upkeep.
Demonic tutor does provide more card advantage but I still think vampiric is better.

take note that demonic is sorcery, and this is instant, meaning you do it at end of opponents turn, to effectively rig your draw.
or for vintage, with instant draw, if you have the mana, you can grab your solution right there and then with this

I'd say lim-duls vault is better since you can put the top 5 card of your library in any order, and if you don't like the first 5 card you see, pay 1 life and see the next 5 cards, both cards are amazing with a instant card drawing like brainstorm to search your deck for a counter instantly if you opponent casts a spell you don't like.
It's between this and Demonic Consultation for best 1 mana tutor (Imperial Seal gets 3rd). I think I'd run Demonic Tutor before this, but I've never played one of these before. Hopefully, that'll change when I hopefully get one soon.
Babbling aside, 5/5 card.

I prefer the flavor of Demonic Tutor, sure...and ever since Vampires went Tribal and got slightly 'shrunk' in avg power, this has seemed something more powerful than Vampires would know how to do...
But you have to hand it Visions: dumb card is dumb, and every old set has something worth pulling no matter how many bad cards surround it.
None of you have even yet raised the most important factor that being an instant means.
The Stick! The Freaking STICK! Best Isochron Scepter target in the game? Might well be. At least it is in the same class as Orim's Chant, and Lightning Bolt and Brainstorm are both in the same class- 1 below it.
