High potential but people will try to get rid of it asap.

I would think this could be intensified by giving it double strike, allowing you to put 2 counters on it b/c you'd be doing combat dmg twice most likely with it having fear.
I think this and Blood Tyrant with Wound Reflection can kill multiple players at once and really quick too if they can't kill them ASAP.

Death Baron will surely help this beasty...and its great with multiplayer game...this guy gave me a win in star...my opponents didnt gave an answer to it quickly electrifying their LP quickly...

This is another card that would be great with Viridian Longbow...if you cant deal damage to them with an attack, just tap him and get yourself a free charge counter every turn
Bleed out damage for the win!

An amazing card for B/R beat-down. 4.5/5. (Also, he only gets charge counters from combat damage Synnestro)

lightning talons anyone???:P am sorry opponent you just can`t win

★★★☆☆ (3.5/5.0)(4 votes)
How does lightning talons have any synergy with lightning reaver whatsoever? besides the +3 power which is a given, the first strike does not help him or aid his ability. Where double strike would allow him to hit twice and accumulate more counters, and trample would help ensure he hits the opponent, first strike does nothing. If he is blocked, no charge counter, regardless of first strike... Whatever, great card people. 4.5/5

this card wins games. if you ever get more then one out, then you got yourself a W. It does 4 damage first turn out. next turn 5. next turn 6. and the fear makes it unblockable again some decks.

Adding Viridian Longbow on this would be stupid Synnestro, as the charge counters only work when it deals COMBAT damage, which the Viridian Longbow does not.
Also, it has fear.

Very nice card, but in multiplayer he is the first to be killed.

I'm not really understanding what's so great about this card, it's only 3/3 for 5 mana, in a range where we also have the spirit avatars, and several other huge beat down creatures like lord of extinction and ethersworn adjudicator. It's ability is only relevant in the case that you can get through to an opponents life points, and that's going to be difficult with so much multi color including a lot of black splash creatures. If it's removed it's charge counters also become pointless. The only time it seems like a really good card is a g/b/r beat down deck, that uses colossal might. If you have 7 to spend on it when it hits play you can attack with a 7/5 trampler that will defintley get that charge counter through. Otherwise there are several better alternatives, goblin razerunners being one, you don't actually have to sacrifice a land to put counters on it by simply using jund charm or mayael's aria, and obsidian fireheart, that still does damage even when it leaves play.

This only works if your life points are equal to or greater than your opponents. If you're down vis-a-vis your opponent, this will kill you before it kills him. Otherwise, a great card.

I have seen this card win many a game. It is especially powerful in multiplayer formats, but especially two-headed giant, since the damage is essentially doubled to the team. I hate seeing this thing come in.
Kurhan
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
thomp, it doesn't hit you. It says does damage to each of your opponents.
And yes, Kurhan, either Whispersilk cloak, Cloak and Dagger, General's Kobuto, ETC.

if you have 2 of these guys out, do their effects affect each other? Because it says whenever lightning reaver deals combat damage to a player, put a charge counter on it. So if i have 2 and attack with 1 does the non-attacking one's effect allow you to put another counter, in addition to the first, on the attacking one? And if they both attack do they both get 2 counters? if this is true, then at the end of the turn they would each amplify the others effect once more, giving you a game-winning combo that could win by the 2nd turn theyre out. please tell me if this is true i dont want to spend a lot of time getting multiples of this if this amazing combo doesnt work out.

I hate this card. It's so powerful. 4.5/5 for causing me to lose 800,000 games.
I love this card. My friends, not so much, I like playing multiplayer games and archenemy. In my archenemy deck I have 4 of these and they hate it. =)

Lots of fun. Pinging at end of turn is really amusing. Works well with Loxodon Warhammer (or other lifelink, but the warhammer fits other creatures well too), Elder Mastery, Fireshrieker (Or any other doublestrike), and Grafted Exoskeleton (jerk).

No, whenever a card says, "Lightning Reaver", or whatever, what it really means is, "This card". In WotC speak, it's denoted by "CARDNAME". In other words, it won't affect other instances of itself.

I still have two from my early days. I need to throw them in a deck.

Great in multiplayer free-for-all since at least one opponent is usually running something other than black or artifact creatures. Pretty good in duels as long as you can connect with it consistently (as previously suggested, Loxodon Warhammer for a power boost, trample, and lifelink is a great touch).
My very first decent rare ever. Still run it in my Grixis EDH. Also due to an initial misreading and a later gaming session I have always called this thing 'Sovereign' or 'Harbringer'.

@DarthParralax: Hm... What exactly does any of the cards you mentioned have to do with Reaver here? They make a nice overall effect together, but it seems to me you're just posting random cards from your Kaalia deck.
Oh, and the card is nice. I'm not exactly a fan of 3/3s for 5, but haste, fear and pinging all opponents each turn makes it okay. Slap a Curiosity on him and he'll draw you p+1 cards (p being the number of opponents) just that turn.

Every time I play this, either the people know it and go "Damnit!" or don't know it and invariably do this.
"Damage at end of turn. Geez! Wait, it has fear? Damn! Wait, and haste? What!!"
Beautiful finisher. The haste makes this card. You are going to get the four damage through, at least. I don't even run anything to buff it. It just kills people.
Absolutely balanced. Awesome rare.

I love the combination of the abilities. I think I'll get one for my zombie horde deck. The damage will scale epicly because it will hit each player (3 players means 3x damage). He's also epic, and I love the zombie that get bigger over time.

This right here is a creature that your opponents will fear. When this hits the battlefield, if it is not removed soon, it tends to win games. Also all the abilities are impressive. 5/5

If going for an "all-in" strategy; this guy can work pretty well with Reanimate; especially if you pump him at all or toss in double strike. It's also comboable.
Primal forcemage and green in general work well with him. The ramp gets him out earlier, the mana fix ensures you can cast him, the pump ensures he hits like a ton of bricks. T3 this guy with a T2 Primal forcemage
How T2 and T3? Veteran Explorer + any black 1-mana sac outlet. Cabal Therapy is preferred since you'll nail the removal from their hand and secure your advantage. If building around haste in general, strangleroot and vengevine go well in the same deck
You could instead use BoP and utopia sprawl; or several other weird combinations, like crop rotation and flagstones

You were playing the wrong colors. You forgot the White.
"What? Why would we play WHITE with this?"
Because of Concerted Effort. And Kaalia of the Vast. And Sword of Vengeance. And Stoneforge Mystic. And Akroma, Angel of Fury. And Moonveil Dragon.
My God, Magic has gotten....powerful. :p
