although the second effect is definitively multiplayer-only (possibly the first card to show it that clearly),
i guess there will be a bunch of gloating players putting the counters on this card before clearing the table in casual games^^

This card will definitly excel in multiplayer, it should still be okay in standard though.

This card is extremely fun in multiplayer. I recently played this card in a 6-player match (2v2v2) and my team dominated; during the last turn of the game, right before I used Blood Tyrant to exterminate the sole remaining opponent, he was standing tall at 48/48. I have also used it to good effect in many duels as well.

My friend mike used this card... in a 9 way battle.. with.. doubling.. season... The horror... THE HORROR!!!

Even in 1v1 though this guy will shine, the fact he's taking life away from you to hit the opponent is just black being itself.

great in MP, good in 1v1, I find few flaws in this card, till the opponent uses him against you.

I remember pulling this card from a 6 card pack and thinking, "Wow! Lucky!", but at the time I wasn't very into playing multi color decks, so it just stayed in my binder for awhile......never mind now! Excellent card, even if you are losing life in the process, that can be fixed if need be.

I almost lost a game playing this card though b/c it was Pacified and so being unable to attack and stuff just turned that card against me. Caution to every player that uses Blood Tyrant that you should consider killing off your own Blood Tyrant if something like that happens.

This card is kinda neat to combo with Wound Reflection

Well...
I would have given it a 5.
I swear, I would have.
But it's broken. Good, but broken

Gako you are correct that he is mainly a multiplayer battle, and since his effect is dealing with you too, you are incorrect about his +1/+1 gain, he truely gets +2/+2 counters every turn on a 1 on 1 battle, since he is sucking out your life in the process, if you can give him shroud after you pump him up or make him indestrucible, you have a powerful card, and also, your biggest problem is the fact that he life sucks you too, so you need to worry about how to make sure you either gain, or at least nulled the effect of this for you...i have figured out, that, if you play a 4 color deck, that excludes green, you can use recombant bliss on your opponents monsters this not only leave him wide open for attack, but you also will not worry about blodd tyrant's ability to life suck you while he gains 2 atk and power every of your upkeep, so he just gets bigger and bigger and you can make sure your oppent looses life while you dish out additional damage...

Does his 2nd ability work on planeswalkers? He realy comes out of the shadows in multi player and I actually got him just below 100 (I had equiped with 2 Elder Mastery's, 1 Lightning Talons and was playing a 8 player game)

Just think of this as a Carnophage that hits your opponent too, that gains power from the damage, AND has flying/trample.

REALLY good if you have a life generator card like "Sorin Markov" or a 'Absorb Vis", and it gains +2/+2 when it your turn. YAY TRAMPLE!

(EDIT)
BEWARE OF "CLONE" AND "RITE OF REPLICATION"!!!!!!!!!!

I played this for the first time in a 5-on-5 team match. He gained +10/+10 each turn. :)

The only thing that really stands out as this card's fault are the abilities that make it so good. As soon as it hits the field and someone sees what it does, the entire focus of the game becomes "oh !@#$, now where's that Pacifism or Stasis Cell or Mystic Restrants? I need to stop this thing as a first priority!"

Therefore, when playing in a big multyplayer match, this card is almost instantly destroyed as it comes out. Even then, unless you're playing with some really ***y opponents, you are now the first person everyone is trying to kill, so be prepared for some hell to come flying your way.

Honestly, have a good counter card ready to play when you bring this guy out, or you can almost assure yourself that it'll be killed within two turns (if not instantly).

Good card, well, GREAT card, but be prepared for some angry looks and some foul play.

Ha ha ha! It'd be fun to just PLAY this card, even without life gain! Just to see their expression... ahh. I can imagine how scary that would be, especially in tandem with a Cleric deck...

I have this guy in a deck with no life gain whatsoever. Call me crazy, but I don't think I've had more fun than using a deck with him, four Breath of Malfegor, three Lightning Reaver, three Terminate and three Clout of the Dominus. The whole focus is to do more damage to my enemies than they do to me, and yes every time I use it I paint a big target on my head, so I call it my "Hate" deck.

Also, he has to have the most badass art ever. He's flying over lava, the look on his face screams Black Metal. Just awesome.

This guy is going to be huge in Arch Enemy decks, hahaha.

4/5 for sheer awesome flavor.

Oh, this guy loves multiplayer. The last time I got him out, he was pacified and drained the life out of me. It was so taunting to have a 20+/20+ that couldn't do anything and would kill me in a few turns.

I will never understand why this wasn't a mythic rare.

He is devastating enough in limited to be mythic, and being the only card in the game that refers to players losing is unique enough to warrant mythic status.

It's easy to look at the second ability and think, "this is just for free for alls." But it's not. I mean, it's better in that situation, but it's still good in duels. It's a 5/5 with flying and trample that grows by 2/2 every turn, and takes one life from the opponent every time it does that. It also hurts you, but with this guy on the field, that's not important. The game will be over very soon if this guy isn't answered quickly. No matter how many opponents you have.

That, mind you, is the biggest flaw with this guy, and also the biggest balancing factor. He has no way to avoid removal, and he costs 7 mana in three colors. In large games, that keeps this from being an automatic win. If there are enough players to make this insane, there are plenty of players to get rid of it.

So far I have 2 in my arch enemy deck, he was meant for arch enemy without question. He is one of the nastiest creatures in the game, and you don't need life gain in the deck, not in a none-archenemy either, as the trample means you'll gladly pay the 1 life each turn to pump him up.
Put a whispersilk cloak on him and watch the opposition despair.

Dealt with this dude when me and my buddies were doing a 10 player mana rush free-for-all... by the time he delivered the final blow to the last surviving player, he was a 347/347 thanks to all the buffs the dude was throwing on the tryrant

I love this one. WHEN someone decides to pacifism him or something along those lines, i just let him grow and finally feed him to Xathrid demon. Yay.

I played this, Elder Mastery, and Lililana Vess in a multiplayer Archenemy game with 2 Megrims. Most of the people in my playgroup blew a circuit after i equip another Elder mastery onto this bada.ss. People discarded their hands turn after turn and then i activated Lililana's ultimate. Intsant win.

This is exactly why white has good removal. It all makes sense now. Otherwise, we would never get Path to Exile.

Too bad he is not legendary. I would LOVE to run him as an EDH General.

I guess Ill just have to stick with Thrax for Grixis. It's a shame

I agree with what pretty much everyone else is saying. A simple Terminate ruins your day, and evne an unsummon can really set you back. But if this guy gets out and stays out for a turn or two, it's game. Love the art and the flavor. Makes Baron Sengir look like a weenie.

It would be so cool if they updated his wording to "Whenever a player dies," but they wont. Still, based on Obsidian Fireheart's reminder text i wouldn't doubt it.

I would say he is a fun card in commander, but otherwise color me unimpressed. A seven coster in three colors with no way to avoid removal is pretty harsh. The first person you go after with this is probably going to kill it dead instantly. Yes, you can drop an enchantment on him to give him shroud (or better yet, a nice pair of boots) but the same can be said of almost any creature.

The fact is, this creature requires a large investment in a specific kind of deck, and he is as fragile as they come. (Okay, he is black, that affords SOME protection) That doesn't mean he isn't a cool flavorful card, because he is, but I am not convinced he is good outside of some very casual play where any big stick can really be used.
