This looks like it's going to be a bomb and possibly very breakable. I have a question though if someone could answer it for me. I never played with mindslaver. When you cast your opponent's creatures, they come into play under your control right?

because they are sages of the anima!!!
Its excellent on turn 5 (or ealrier) but once your opponent is topdecking its meh. Basicly their card advantage becomes your card advantage.
Bomb vs. 5cc.

use exotic orchards, vivid meadows, Arcane Sanctum and vivid creeks for a solid mana base

also, you need Metallurgeon to keep the triplets alive, use Ethersworn Canonist to limit your opponents playables and use your cancels to plug those up

prismatic omen is off color but seaside citadel can help with that and once you got it out, haha, I got every color mana, and will more then likely be able to play any of your cards, idylic tutor may help with finding it if you dont have it by turn 5 (all the lands so far come into play tapped)

this is my new deck thought, may be hard to get it to work just right though, need a way to draw more i suppose

I'm running this in Grixis splashing white, and it's actually working exceptionally well. Terminates help keep the board clear, while cheap creatures swing away and sacrifice themselves. When the Triplets come out, Spires and Arcane Sanctums give me a spread mana-base, and from there it's just a matter of "Burn yourself", or "Kill your own creature". Etcetera. Great card.

When Alara Reborn had come out, Sen Triplets was a card I really wanted. I ended up getting 2 of them, a normal and a holo. I felt so lucky! I can't wait to play it in a deck!

So, wait a minute, it dies easily to two kinds of removal, costs 5 mana, and the only thing I have to do to stop you from playing my spells is simply play them so I don't have cards in hand? It's still good, but I'm not like shocked or anything, seems pretty easy to counter. Also, only being 3/3, an artifact, and a creature, she dies to everything, even more so than normal. I could still see this card being pretty good in a blue control deck that steals creatures and spells, but it wont always give the kind of benefit it seems like it would by what you see on the card.

Also, remember you -can- play the opponent's spells doesn't mean you necessarily can, 1) get any use out of the spells your opponent has available, and 2) have the mana to play those spells. As mentioned in other comments exotic orchard helps, but since exotic orchard isn't all that good limiting your mana base just so you can play this one card seems like an odd thing to do.

If no one has mentioned it before or read the rules that are back online, you CAN steal lands from your oppenont's hand. You still can only play one land a turn, so don't play the one out of your hand then try and take theirs.

I ordered one of these a few days back and I'm really excited. I think I might try making an EDH deck around them (I've never built one before), though that's not why I bought them.

One question, though: in a one-on-one battle, aside from the obvious (no blue or black mana sources in the deck), why would ANYONE want to play Iona, Shield of Emeria over this? It seems she costs 4 more, doesn't restrict abilities, only restricts one color, and doesn't let you play your opponent's cards. Am I misunderstanding something?
Andon_A
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Strictly speaking, Iona is better for the simple reason that the Sen Triplets only works on YOUR turn. Iona works on everyone's turn.

I do think this is a nice card - It's my EDH General for my artifact EDH deck, which can be quite a *** to deal with - Especially combined with stuff like Jester's Mask and Head Games - Give them a hand of stuff that's beneficial to you and that, at the very least, won't come back to bite you in the ass when it is their turn.

ATTENTION DEULISTS!:
The text on Sen Triplets is one huge triggered ability. It even targets. At the beginning of your upkeep, you put this ability on the stack with a target. That opponent will get to respond. In a duel, that doesn't matter as much since there is only one potential target.

I have a penchant for stealing other people's stuff. Just because someone else has it, doesn't mean it's worth stealing. There are enough people with cards in their hand that would be better than they actually are if that card's ability was to "force target opponent to jump through hoops to steal this card". If you have your opponent pinned in a corner where you can play their good stuff out of their hand and they can't do anything, perhaps you currently possess more advantageous cards than he/she does and so therefore maybe you would be better off playing your cards, which are evidently more advantageous (or perhaps, it is more advantageous to not play anything at all).

I fear that these strategies being discussed (or Sen Triplets all in all) are not effective against good opponents and only work against an inferior one. When you have the advantage against an inferior opponent, you should not prolong the game and torture them. You go ahead and win.

This card is alright; especially good against certain decks. Most of the time, you force your opponent to kill it (which is alright). Most other time, it is only a 3/3. You only wish that you reach 15 mana before your opponent and get to play their Emrakul out of their hand.

Not a good EDH general. Usually, you would only be allowed to produce White, Blue, or Black mana, so you could miss some players. Also, players who overestimate the power of this card (like yourselves) may preemptively mess with it/you.

Please don't build a deck around this card (unless you can beat good decks/good players). This card is good in certain decks, but if you build a deck around this you will only be able to annoy new/inexperienced players with inferior decks.

Dont forget if youre running her as your general in EDH to be running the colors your opponents are or have a Celestial Dawn in play (Depending on the house-rules you play by for EDH). If you're using the MO Commander format rules, your mana pool cant have mana in it thats not a color of your general (ie with triplets youre manapool can only have generic, U, W, and B mana.)
achilleselbow
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Sleetfox, Iona doesn't let your opponent cast spells (of that color) AT ALL. This only prevents them from casting spells during your turn. Any deck other than blue counter is barely going to be affected by that restriction. Iona is also a 7/7 flier which will go on to kill the opponent who now has no way of removing her and probably no creatures that can deal with her. These girls won't even put a dent in whatever defenses your opponent has managed to get out before you played them.

That's not to say it's not a good card, but you do have to build around it, while all you have to do with Iona is get her on the field.

Want to use it in EDH?

Tutor out a Mycosynth Lattice. Color restrictions? What color restrictions?

Shouldn't be too hard with Fabricate, Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor, and others as well... they're the 3 best colors for tutoring, it shouldn't be hard.

Works best with bounce, methinks. Also, it says "cards" so you could use this for their lands, too, if they have any in hand(say, because you bounced it). Parallel Thoughts them with four Reality Strobes and have fun.

Reads:

when you play this card, your opponent sits there bored to death as they are unable to do anything, letting you win every game in the tournament until you have no friends and are forced to sit in the corner and cry, wishing you never got this extremely broken card. And then you get a soaring hope, realizing that everything will be ok as long as you do one thing. Turning, you ride your chimney imps to the nearest storm crow dispenser.

And they all lived happily ever after.

This card looks like really fun! You just have to make sure that you have a good, 5-color manabase to reliably play stuff from their hand, or you'll end up having to play their lands for a few turns, then play the few spells they have remaining...but overall, it looks really fun, especially with the right matchups

You could always use a card like Celestial Dawn or Mycosynth Lattice to easily play opponent's spells instead of worrying about packing enough gold lands/mana fixers. Seems like a fun EDH concept, if annoying for everyone else.

@shb

The effect of this card states "You may play cards from that player's hand this turn". "Cards" includes spell cards (instant, sorcery, enchantment, artifact, planeswalker, or creature) and land cards. You can play any card from their hand.

If it only included spell cards it would say "cast nonland cards". If it only included noncreature spells (creatures are spells too) it would specify "noncreature, nonland cards".

I need to be enlightened a bit concerning this card and having the proper mana to play an opponent's spells. The way I understand EDH rules you can only generate mana in a color of your general's colors. So if you are playing against a red/green deck and take either their land or have exotic orchard they would still only produce colorless mana for you since they do not match the Triplets' colors. Or do stolen lands still produce their normal color even if they don't match your general?

I found the ruling. With Sen Triplets as your general an Exotic Orchard cannot produce G or R mana even if the opponent has a land that can do so.

Some one said not to make a deck around this card... too bad... Here it is!
I am not entirely sure if it's viable because I just designed it and haven't really ran it through any serious play test or anything but... It's truly a Sen Triplets deck... everything is focused around playing using your opponents deck, even providing the mana to do so...

Run in a bounce deck; (especially if you're bouncing their lands.) Resolve this and protect it for 1 turn and start turning all that card disadvantage/stalling you've been doing into card advantage with a land + 1-2 spells per turn. If I had white mana in my bounce deck I would do this, but sadly..

Why do people think you can use her as a General and cast other player's cards if you lack the proper mana? In Commander, you can never produce mana outside your General's color identity. If you do, the mana automatically becomes colorless. Ex. In my Mono Red Urabrask deck, if I use a Darksteel Ingot to make any color other than red, it becomes colorless. So with the triplets, you can only cast white, black, or blue spells or any combo of those colors, provided they do not require an alt color that is outside your color grid. (multicolor spells) Even if you use their land from their hand as a land drop, that land will only provide legal colors for your deck identity. (Ex. A land that produces a White or a Red would essentially provide a White or a Colorless)

She is an awesome EDH commander, but she isn't THAT broken.

It's so awesome they had to give it flavour text even though it's rules text takes up almost the entire frame. It's so legendary that they had to shrink the font for its title.

And that flavour mmmm! They are the masters of your mind...

Too bad everybody is always thinking the same thing. Removal.

I've played this at least 20 times and gotten to use it twice. Because it was shrouded and indestructible.

Your options for EDH use:

- Mycosynth Lattice
- Celestial Dawn
- False Dawn (temporarily)
- Sunglasses of Urza (red only, not green)
- North Star (terrible, but having a copy and some way to dispose of it is important in case your other three permanent options are answered)

Pretty sure they're the only ones that let you spend mana as though it were something else, rather than adding coloured mana to your pool (where it proceeds to turn colourless).

Related: Please run friendly cards such as Shieldmage Advocate that allow you to bolster opposing hands. Not only does it stop a lot of the hate traditionally aimed at Sen Triplets decks, it lets you put the cards you want to cast in their hand!
