Pro-Red meens he doesn't take damage from Red sources. He is a Red source of damage. He doesn't do damage to himself.

He is essencially targeting all creatures except himself, and other creatures with proc red, because they can't be targeted by red sources

There seems to be confusion as to why he does not kill him self. I will try to clear this up.

His protection from red does make it so he can not be a target of spells or abilitys. This spell DOES NOT target him so this part of the protection rules does not matter.

Another thing protection does is prevent all damage from a source that shares the chararistics of the protection type.

He has protection from red. He deals 10 damage to all creatures and players.
The 10 damage would happen to him but he has protection from red so it is prevented.

Another cool thing 'bout him is that you could cast him, and given that you have at least 4 other goblins in the table, use its ability right away before sorcery-speed removal comes in. Or even play the trick in response to removal!

If you have two skirk fire marshals out does it do 20 damage to each creature and each player? Would it be the same thing as Ravenous Baloth Sac a beast: gain 4 life with 2 ravenous baloths you gain 8 life for sacing a beast.

I just realized that giving this guy a Basilisk Collar means you gain 10 life every time he deals damage to anything(And destroy meddlesome creatures, of course). So... have two out, give one a Basilisk Collar... and you get a win against anything not called lifegain.

Know your protection rules: "702.14e Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented."

Here the 10 damage he deals is prevented because he has Protection from Red. Page 100 in the current PDF version of the comprehensive rulebook.

Basically what Devilman said, but there's the source if your opponent doubts you.

Actually, you CAN tap this guy the turn he comes into play. This is not a T: ability. The ability says 'Tap 5 untapped goblins'. If this guy is untapped, he can be tapped from this ability. Falls under the same rules as cards like Kyren Negotiations.

if you play this at the right time, it can be very surprising and bring your opponent to 0 in no time. once i had a goblin warchief out and with 5 mana i used goblin grenade on a goblin arsonist and played this, = 16 damage to the face, right the amount to bring him down.

and there are even better combinations, as someone already stated, throw in a couple of mogg maniac and win :)

No, the goblins you are tapping are the cost to activate the ability, you cannot use two fire marshall's abilities by paying the cost once. You would need to tap ten goblins to use both.

If you only had four other goblins on the battlefield you could not use the ability right away unless something was giving skirk fire marshall haste, if he doesn't have haste then you cannot tap him the turn he comes under your control.

Essentially, you could pull off a 9 cmc win. Have this guy out and and any of the 0 cmc artifacts. Memnite, accorders shield, there's PLENTY, but we'll say Ornithopter x4. Next, play 4 Kuldotha rebirth and extend handshake offer. Thats that.

Fun Card!
Now your red deck only needs to squeak in a quick 10 damage, and this can finish it. Talk about getting some extra reach. The new Beetleback Chief curves into this better than the siege-gang commander does.
One of the easiest ways to make draws too. The other day I was in a close and indeterminate battle. I just asked my opponent if he was ok with a draw, and he was so I killed us both.

@Boakes: you've actually already got what's necessary to kill your opponent on T3: just tap the five goblins to have skirky deal 10 damage and the mogg deal 10 damage. Throwing in the furnace of rath actually kills you (in addition to all (non-lifegain) opponents) in your equation, since you wouldn't have more than 20 life.

@Concerned_Bystander: The ruling on the main page should set you straight on that:
'10/4/2004 Since the ability does not have the {Tap} symbol, you can use the ability before this creature begins a turn under your control.'
@Mike-C: You actually only need 3x Kuldotha Rebirth in your example, so it's an 8CMC win.

I love the flavor and the fact that the position of Fire Marshal is reversed. And getting five Goblins out is absolutely not difficult. Can end the game, but watch out that you don't singe yourself in the process.
