This is was an excellent card in standard, causing many shenanigans (FARVA!), and I think it can still be a good card in extended, if used correctly. I don't see why people don't like Venser.

Bounce a storm crow? What are we playing portal? No a well placed Boomerang can greatly affect the tempo of the game, as can a well played Venser, plus he has the ability to bounce spells! Great Card, 5 out of 5

one of the most underrated/underappreciated cards of all time. amazing how you can combine two mediocre cards (grizzly bears + boomerang) into one card without even lowering the total cmc and produce awesomeness. one of the best utility cards ever printed. should be auto 2-of in every casual mono-u control deck

I love that guy, a solid 2/2 wizard (might be relevant in some tribal cases) body at instant speed with Boomerang for four mana, plus it can bounce spells on the stack as well!
@fippythekist: DaaNz is trolling storm crow comments wherever he can, just click on his name and find the cards commented by him and you'll see. Sometimes they're amusing, but other people may find them most often at least equally annoying. I don't exactly know why he's doing this, either for default trolling reasons, or because he wants storm crow to become the next meme card besides Chimney Imp.

One of the best tempo spells for blue in my opinion. The fact that you get a 2/2 creature in addition to bouncing something is crazy good. Disrupts your opponent and throws down a minor threat. A very solid card. Highly recommend 2 in counter decks.

Hypergenesis + this guy + anything that triggers when creatures come into play = weeeeeeeeeeeeee
Simply astounding, a counter or bounce that gives a 2/2 upon resolution.
I do wish he was more like Voidmage Husher in one of two ways though, by either being able to counter an activated ability, or by having some sort of re-usability outside of the Erratic Portal/Crystal Shard/Equilibrium-esque cards. Reusable bounce might have made him too good though.
Maybe if he had something along the likes of Sakashima the Impostor's : Return Venser to owners hand at the end of turn, it would have been alright without being too broken or re-abuseable.

So... i'm thinking he's the only thing that can successfully "counter" Emrakul. Yeah he goes straight back to their hand, but if someone has 15 mana ready twice in an eldrazi deck, they shouldn't need emrakul to win.

One of the best things about him is that his Legendary drawback doesn't really matter all the much because he activates on entering the battlefield, so he'll enter and do his effect even if he's already out.
It's an ETB ability, at least that's what I get from it. Two words Mimic Vat...

@ChampionofSquee
He can "counter" Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, but since your opponent just cast Emrakul he'll still get an extra turn... and there's a good chance Emrakul is coming out on that turn, landing him another extra turn... which means Venser isn't much use against him.
If you're looking to counter Emrakul and other uncounterables, I think you need look no further than Mindbreak Trap.

for those that think you can use this card on emrakul, emrakul has protection from colored spells... therefore he can not be exiled with mindbreak trap, or returned to owners hand when he is on the stack...
hunter90000
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@guitarman71084: Yes, the spell Emrakul could be returned to your hand by this, Emrakul only has protection from colored spells when it's a permanent, not as a spell. Since returning a spell to your hand is different than countering, it would get around Emrakul's uncounterable ability too. See Emrakul's rulings about protection.

The permanent Emrakul can also be targeted by this. When Venser ETB he is a permanent, not a spell. Emrakul won't have protection from it. The same applies to emrakul's interaction with oblivion ring, see http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75842/28910957/?pg=last
@Totema
That only applies to "future shifted" cards with the special "future" border (i.e. Tarmogoyf).

Works well with the planeswalker: when creature-Venser is on the battlefield, bounce him with 'walker-Venser. Then when creature-Venser enters the battlefield again, bounce him to your hand with his own ability, and bam! recurrable "counterspell". You could even take the time to Wrath the board while creature-Venser is in exile if you want. Also worth noting that he abuses etb and cast triggers for .

And that was BEFORE Jace, the Mind Sculptor. You could make an entire deck out of "Assholes & Islands" Easily.
