Transfigure is a great ability, but I feel it's more in line with blue, you know, the 'illusion' and 'shapeshifting' color.
I want to see transfigure return as a mainly blue ability.

Transfigure looks sort of like Transmute...

I used him to look for Korlash, heir to blackblade and then immediately discard the one in my hand. If I have one already on the field then I make it turn into Disciple of Tevesh Szat, no one ever saw that coming.

Faceless Butcher was always a cool card with this cmc

Fleshwrither can become a Body Snatcher. Then that Body Snatcher can become that Fleshwrither. Then that Fleshwrither can become another Body Snatcher.

I really like Transfigure. I hope they use it as a keyword in a future set sometime.

I'd like it better if transfigure gave the searched creature haste.
Let's compare it to Diabolic Tutor, bear with me:

Demonic Tutor:
-Sorcery
-Keeps search a secret
-Not limited to 4 cc or creatures
-Searched card is counter bait, but otherwise opponent cant deal with it yet.

Fleshwrither:
-Sorcery (essentially)
-Can serve as a weak attacker/blocker (though dying would defeat its purpose)
-Ability doesn't allow "when you cast __" abilities to trigger
-Fills your graveyard with a creature, which is usually more helpful than a sorcery
-Transfigured card is uncounterable, but opponent has more options of getting rid of your "tutor"

I dunno, If it gave haste it would, I believe, put it more on par with diabolic tutor, giving it a surprise factor. After all, diabolic tutor is a "fixed" card anyway.
Meh, 3/5

Attract, you can still Stifle Transfigure. Then the Fleshwrither just dies for naught.

@Attract: Let's get a few things straight, here.

1. Diabolic Tutor still requires you to pay the cost of the creature you search for. So while, yes, you can search for something bigger than 4 cmc, you're going to have to pay the extra.

2. There are 3, maybe 4, creatures with 4 cmc that have beneficial "when you cast" triggers. Most triggers are ETB, so this whole point is thrown out the window as only ONE of those creatures is playable (Bloodbraid Elf).

3. Let's look at the numbers: With Fleshwrither, you pay a total of 7 mana for a 4 drop(4 for the Fleshwrither, 3 for the ability). With Tutor, you pay a total of 8 mana for a 4 drop(4 for the Tutor, 4 for the creature).

4. "Keeps it a secret"??? Why on earth would that help?!? The comparison here is with permanents, not other spells. If we were discussing something like a counterspell, we would have a different story. With few exceptions(Flash comes to mind) the "secret" part is irrelevant.

5. I really don't understand the "haste" part of your argument. Neither card grants haste so why even bring it up? The only explanation I can think of is that you thought giving it haste would "balance" the card with Diabolic Tutor. This is completely arbitrary and you may as well have said "I'd like it better if transfigure turned the creature into Jace, The Mind Sculptor"

In conclusion, I'd like to add that this would be a great ability for them to bring back in the Innistrad block(think about the flavor of the Skaab)!!!

Its a fact! This cute little guy right is the ONLY card in Magic the Gathering with the ability to "transfigure"! It's the future and "tutoring" is running a muck, might we be seeing this on several cards in the somewhat near future?? Why.. Yes lads, I believe we will :)

We probably won't see this ability returning anythime soon. MaRo has stated that they don't want to pick Transmute up again because tutoring seeps a lot of fun from the game, so I don't see why this would be any different.
It is fun, though. The graveyard-filling, morbid-triggering part is as good as the turoring.
I'd be happier if it could search for any kind of permanent, though. You can never have too many ways to tutor a Grave Pact.

Anyone else think this looks like Yawgmoth Demon ?

Love the flavor. Here the creature in the art has two heads, the casting cost has two skulls (black mana), and the transfigure cost also has two skulls.

I wish this would be dimir's ability in gatecrash. It would fit so perfectly with the shapeshifter flavor. But alas, it probably wont be.
On the card: it's always served me well, especially with a lot of recursion. 4 drops are nice.

@Sweetooth

I think the haste argument was that the creature is supposed to be "turning into" another one, so on some flavorful level it's not newly coming under your control and so shouldn't suffer from summoning sickness.

As for fun targets, most of 'em have already been mentioned...but it seems poor little Clone has been overlooked. It's an excellent thing to have in the deck with this because it just gives you so many options. Same applies to Sower of Temptation

Lightning Angel, Solemn Simulacrum, Lodestone Golem, Sower of Temptation, Moggcatcher, Elvish Lyrist, Master Transmuter, Dawn Elemental, Sakashima's Student, etc. With Recurring Nightmare, this could be even nastier, especially if you're sac'ing Nether Traitor, something with undying or persist...

I like that the color-specific casting cost is negated, and that the creature it transfigures into cannot be countered. For black, that is a big game, because it is completely unnatural to the color pie. Of course, there are better options when running more colors... Oh, and this can't die to Doom Blade, so with something like Swiftfoot Boots or Sword of Fire and Ice, most problems it could run into are no issue.

Play this guy. During your next turn, pay 3 mana, sacrifice him and bring in Huntmaster of the Fells. Get a wolf. Gain 2 life. Pass the turn. Deal 2 damage to an opponent. Then to a creature. So much worth. Cheating out Huntmaster has never been so easier.

...What's a Birthing Pod?

This card is intense. A four drop utility creature with a solid 3/3 body is good. His ability requires no tapping, so you can use it immediately if you have the mana, or just save it for later.

More importantly, having a creature that can tutor in the same color as reanimate effects and graveyard combos is very nifty.
