very nice. slows down agro, instants/counterspells...
get him out early and combine with etherium sculptor to laugh in your opponent's faces while you play all of your spells for cheap!

Awesome guy, good cost for what he does...

Now if only he didn't die to Bolt!

@ Merdlekid:

That's what Dispel's for! Ironically they would both cost 2 to cast at that point XD

NIce this seems to tell me there will be a lot of artifacts and artifact creatures in Rise of the Eldrazi

Could be good in Limited and Esper decks, but I think this card will see some play outside of Standard as well

This guy is amazing and he most likely will be heavily played.

If 4 of these are in play which means, it'll take 5 mana to cast a lightning bolt, 6 to cast a negate and 7 to cast a cancel, plus the support it can give with the worldwake cards to disrupt the opponent's mana flow, downside is you cast nonartifact spells at twice the cost too.

Great card in limited, really messed up my opponents late-game removal. He seems like a no-brainer in any artifact heavy deck, particularly since he has a really tough 5/3 frame.

At least the bolt to kill him would cost 2 instead of 1 !!

He looks good on paper, but as a 5/3 he is in bolt range and doesn't want to block any relevant creature in standard. I'd prefer him as a 3/5 (more control-ish).

Unfourtunatley this card can bolted.

4 of these went right in my T1 stax/workshop aggro deck as soon as it was released. The missing link...

It's kinda funny. The first time I opened a pack with him in it, I thought I had just got a dud rare. Shortly after I played against him and found out it effected everyone :P Also not bad being a 5/3.

i think this can mess leveler's deck if it doesn't have training grounds.

Juggernaut!!!! Almost. . I think it's just as good but in a different way! Just not as much impact on the game as if it came out 12 years ago.

This card and Thada Adel are two cards you want to hold to, guys. They may foreshadow a standard environment with artifact based decks when Scars of Mirrodin is released and will be worth more than they are now.

Not a bad card at all. Even the artwork is nice. In the right deck, you can get around its cost while slowing your opponent's down...why, hello there Opposition and Frozen Æther !

Bought a playset as soon as I could. The great thing about it is its 5 power for a cost of 4. That's a fourth of your opponent's life, on top of a great hate ability. In an all-artifact deck, it's hard to find a more economical beater. And yes, it can be Bolted. Lots of things can be Bolted. Every card has vulnerabilities; I don't think the fact that Lightning Bolt kills this card completely invalidates it.

This card is great. It can slow down your opponents spells and give them a hard time choosing between removal or playing something else. Even if you're fighting an opponent who uses artifacts, hes still a great attacker and blocker with a great cost. With more of these guys out, Doom Blade or Naturalize can cost a potential 6 mana. Now that hurts.

At least when they bolt him they won't be hitting Brass Man

Juggernaut for aggro, Lodestone Golem for control. I bet you'll see each one in Standard on opposite sides of the coin. Juggernaut will get played for RDW and anything that wants to get around Wall of Omens, and Lodestone for U/W control and things that want to stroll at a more leisurely pace.

it's 5/3 for 4, that sounds alright but it can be bolted.
it has an awesome ability that completely shuts down cascade. alright I like it but it can still be bolted.
I run a bunch of sharuum, open the vaults.

bolt doesn't seem quite as dangerous when it costs 5 mana after an open the vaults

he can't be bolted if you steel oversee him, and it would be absurd if you didn't plan on doing so.

Screw juggernaut, this guy is awesome. Especially in RDW.

Too Bad This Thing Dies To Removal!

This card is powerful enough for vintage artifact decks. Frequently dropable on the first turn with mishra's workshop and any other acceleration like the moxes, or a sol ring. These decks used to run Juggernaut (there was nothing better!) and this is a clear improvement. Sure, you would prefer your Tangle Wires, or trinisphere first turn, but this combines the price increase mechanic that is necessary to win, with your actual win condition!

Decent body, good for an artifact deck obviously. At least this thing will make them pay 1 more for that removal.

Use it against an Eldrazi deck. Laugh manically.

More important than the higher mana investment required to kill this thing: every Bolt, Doom Blade, Path to Exile, etc, used on this thing, is one less your opponent has to use on Master Transmuter. It is possible to ignore it, but multiples of this thing can really ruin a deck's day. Five damage a pop is nothing to scoff at either.

BUT WAIT.
If i were to play this and my opponent had 3 mana open, could he play cancel or not? When does his static effect begin to take place?

Powering these out T1 is one of my favorite things to do in Legacy: "You skip your turn and take 5 damage."

Aside from that; I really really hope they make a Thorn of Amethyst version of this guy; even if it costs {3} or more.

Library, his effect only starts after he resolves and enters the battlefield. Your opponent can freely counter him (or do any instant effect for that matter) to prevent him from resolving.
