there is some synergy with Magister Sphinx.
yet to ensure this works you should come up with Blaze spells or also bring something to restore the opponent's life, e.g. Grove of the Burnwillows.

With just the right amount of luck, you could win with this card... too bad it's so hard to get out >_>

I kind of like this card, it's an interesting way to really deliver that final bazooka to the face of your opponent. Turn 1 Lightning bolt Turn 2 Lava spike or another bolt, etc. Turn 3 Seething Song, then sac two mountains and play Fireblast, finish off withHidetsugu's Second Rite for turn 3 win. Pretty ideal start (and assuming the opponent isn't intervening), but it's certainly something to build on.

Umm...let's just go with Sorin Markov's 2nd ability...
d._.b That is, if you have mana to spare.

This can be devasting with the proper deck build, cards like pyromatics, blaze, and fireball just to name a few, lets you basically a control what your opponents life total is

Deathforge Shaman, Comet Storm, Blaze, Demonfire, Banefire and friends are great with this too, as they can all force your opponent down exactly as far as you want. If they don't have life gain or life loss spells, they're not going to be able to do anything about this aside from countering or Duress or something.

Hidetsugu himself doesn't work with this as well as it should thanks to the abundance of damaging lands.

I have a buddy who uses this and although I know he has it... I always fall for it. Everytime.

Yeah, 10 life, then they play the tap ability on Elixir of Immortality on top of the stack lol. Seems a bit overrated now, but must be effective in it's day... mind you if you can prevent lifegain lol.

In response to the lifegain guy:

Hidetsugu's Second Rite, meet Elixer of Immortality.
Elixer of Immortality, meet Flames of the Bloodhand.

Thank you Kamigawa, Thank You.
Sincerely,
Red

Hidetsugu is more combo than aggro, but red is the beautiful color where those two mean basically the same thing, and its hard to imagine a red deck that wouldn't want to splash one or two of this on the off chance they get the combo randomly.

Black-Red loves it the most. Sorin Markov FTW, and while you're in those colors, Thought Hemorrhage and Blightning are just neato.

Me: ''I'll kill you on my next turn. You sure you don't want to give up?''
Opponent: ''Not yet. Cast Final Fortune . Maybe I can win with this extra turn.''
Me: ''Oh well, suit yourself. You'll just lo-''
Opponent: ''You're at 10 life. Cast Hidetsugu's Second Rite.''
Me: ''WAT!?''

And the rest is history.

sorins vengeance allows you to potentially have 8 of the titular planeswalker abilities, causing your opponent to lose to this as well. unfortunately, with searchlands, phyrexian mana and the occasional odd card it is much more difficult to do it this way as your opponent would need to be at exactly 20 life.

I hate when people mention the Magister Sphynx, who the efffffffff splashes red for one spell that is so F*ck'n conditional!

Use Stream of Life and Fireball in order to set your opponent's life to 10, then Second Rite...

I used tihs card with a lot of satisfaction in its time, I like it very much! Such a unique and unexpected effect...

Chances are this is going to be a blank most of the time. But when it works, epicness is ensured.

You can get an instant win when you combine this with Sorin Markov's -3 ability

To revisit the magister sphinx in a more "mono red" light you could always sneak attack it onto the board to set up for a second rite.

@CameronTheYoung: Unless you start the game with 7 of the 8 cards in hand AND go second that is never ever going to happen. 5 spells and 3 lands makes for a cute combo but it is so fragile that even mentioning it is pointless.

Our local Cube Draft has this interesting house rule: Whenever you cast one of it's few wish spells (like Living Wish, Glittering Wish, Burning Wish), instead of your sideboard cards, you may pick any card from Magic's history with the correct type. The rule states also, you can't use gatherer to search the card first. Some examples of this rule would be Living Wishing for Library of Alexandria or Burning Wishing for Damnation.

Few days back, when cubeing I had lots of mana Cunning Wish in hand and my opponent cracked an Arid Mesa when he was at 11.

He actually didn't believe this card existed.

Neat in a ping/bleed deck. Gelectrode and Guttersnipe make this work at 12 life.

Firebreathing creatures and x damage effects are both common and generally useful in red. Both can be reasonable non-suspicious ways to control damage output.
