I use this card in my white removal deck - there are many times it's won me the game.

There are so many combos that can work amazingly with this card such as: lifegain cards, additional creature removal, spells that turn the opponents attacking creatures into meek 1/1's . . . . .

Keep her alive and gain a bit of life and effectively you can't lose. These happen to be things white is awesome at.

Also a VERY strong multiplayer card. Who would attack into the player with this when they have a choice?

DRCCOTD #3: Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker

Hmm, Michiko, I remember you well (for not really playing you very much at all). You obviously fail the vanilla test of any card, and you obviously did even in the weaker creature era in which you were printed. We expect much more from a than a 4CMC 2/2 unless you have a good ability. Thankfully for you Michiko, you DO have a good ability (at least some of the time). The question now really is, is your ability good ENOUGH, and if it is, is it good enough ENOUGH OF THE TIME.

Now this is possibly where you fall down. If your playing some kind of white based control deck against a white based weenie deck, and you resolve Michiko, your opponent might well have some trouble winning. They are going to have to lose a lot of permanents dealing damage to you, and are likely to have to choose between sacing weaker creatures and maintaining some ability to cast anything slightly expensive, or dumping the land and ignoring the higher CMC stuff in hand.

However, the problem is, we had to line up a lot of things for this to work, and even then, if you are playing a white based control deck, you almost certainly have cards like Wrath of God to handle swarms. In other matchups, Michiko doesn't really much. She was even downright horrible against commonly played cards from her block. Really doesn't look so good against Yosei, The Morning Star or Kokusho, The Evening Star now does she ?

One place she can shine though is multiplayer. She is a pretty good rattlesnake, she is good at deflecting attention from you to other players who will be less painful to attack, but without being so absurdly good that people decide she (or you) must die now !

This is a defensive multiplayer card. Sure, someone could attack you, but why not attack someone else and not have to sac some permanents?

I believe she has no mercy for people who hate the kamigawa set.

Insane with Mother of Runes running anti-removal interference. Also fun with Forcefield.

In multiplayer games, she's rather fiesty.

Despite only being a 2/2, she's my favorite blocker. She's the kind of blocker that can stop multiple creatures, even unblockable creatures, even if she's tapped or arrested or has lost the ability to block. She blocks with sheer presence.

She stops creatures from attacking you not because the creatures are strictly forbidden to, but because your opponents realize that there's far better targets for their advances in other directions. With a bit of advice from Michiko, they see that the real truth is they'd much prefer fighting amongst themselves, rather than involve you in their petty squabble.

After their resources are depleted and they're tired from their battle, is there any better moment to remind everyone that while Michiko is quite scary indeed, there is a far greater presence behind her?

Ironically a pretty effective counter to Konda, Lord of Eiganjo.

And you of tender years
Can't know the fears
That your elders grew by
And so please help them with your youth
They seek the truth
Before they can die

Teach your parents well...

In the middle of armored knights, furry warriors and monsters, finding a regular woman with a sword makes the art somewhat hypnotic.

Indestructibility, swiftfoot boots, whatever...

I dont think there is anything you can do with permanents to stop a big enough black sun's zenith, final judgment, or an overloaded cyclonic rift. There is no way to be assured this creature can stay on the battlefield, unless you have counterspells. Big removal will always remove irremovable threats, or else the game will become solitaire and both sides making irremovable you cant beat me cards like this and platinum angel.

However, you can prevent all "targeted" and even "destroy all" spells. But the above is impossible to stop unless you counter.

Just pointing it out, randomly.
