This card is borderline. it is only useful if you want to use lure with it to stop damage.

Dies too easily to -x/-x effects for 7 mana.

I use him in my white healing deck as a means of defense...him + pariahs shield = no damage to you (within reason of course)

I'd much rather use Pariah instead of the shield but since I sadly dont have that card at my disposal, I can at least say the shield works pretty well =)

He's the star of my white and green deck. Get a Takeno, Samurai General or two out (with Mirror Gallery), add on O-Naginata and No-Dachi and he's an absolute monster.

Lure + Trample Ability on this guy. +5 for each of your opponent's creatures, and tramples the weakest. 6 creatures can give a potential 32 damage to that poor guy.

no, it's just +5/+5 if blocking or blocked, not +5/+5 for each creature, bushido is not rampage.

Strong guy, Indestructible, and Vigilant. Basically, only enchantments stop him.

Last Gasp for 2 mana take him down. From the same block, Kagemaro, First to Suffer and his clutch would do the trick.

That being said, I like a massive indestructible blocker.

Rips enemy creatures to pieces whether on the offensive or the defensive, and indestructible and Vigilance go deliciously well together. Sure, lots of specific cards exist that kill him oh so easily, but the same can be said about most good cards. In a straight out slugfest he's a real beast.
Besides, who doesn't want to beat the ever loving bejingles out of someone with an old man?

Indestructible, always reminds me of the time you played war in kinder garden, it should stay in kinder garden in my opinion.

He's pretty awesome, but something for seven mana needs to be more awesome than that. He is not much of an offensive threat, and when you have seven mana you shouldn't be focused on defense too much. He's an alright deterrent in free for all games, but there's much better you can do.

Twelve comments, and no one thought to mention what an awesome (and really annoying) EDH General he makes? Sure he's a one trick pony, but it's a heckuva trick!

Plus, you have an indestructible general that you actually want in combat.

If there are multiple combat phases (such as through Hellkite Charger's ability) in one turn and this guy is blocked in both of them, since his +5/+5 bonus hasn't dissipated, wouldn't he become 13/13? Just curious.

Also, 3/3 with Bushido 5 would be worth at least 5 mana, and adding on vigilance would be worth at least another 2. Just think of the indestructibility as an added bonus. You get to attack with an 8/8 creature every turn and still keep an indestructible wall in defense. And that's not even taking into account all the samurai tribals available in this expansion. What's not to like?

This would be much more impressive if I hadn't read the novels, and concluded that his name should be 'Konda, Lord of Dumbasses'. See Final Judgement. And That Which Was Taken. That Which Was Taken is the beloved, adorable, precious infant son of that horrible awful giant THING in Final Judgement. The one that can eat Progenitus. And Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. And Storm Crow.

Konda probably has the lowest IQ of anybody in fantasy, including Anakin Skywalker.

@Paladin85

You do realize you actually can't block Stormtide Leviathan unless you control 0 lands, right?

Also, you can't attack with him unless you give him flying or islandwalk, upon which Stormtide Leviathan wouldn't be able to block either.

This old man is stronger in combat than any of the Titans, most dragons, all angels, and even gives Stormtide Leviathan a good beating

Though without combat the old man is frustated and is only a 3/3 vulnerable to infect and -X/-X spells

4.5 if only his toughness was at least 4 he would be 5/5 for casual

Edit: I do know that, I am just talking about the context of the cards 'strength', when is the last time you see an old man being as strong as a large sea creature?

The fact that the main villain is white is probably the most awesome thing about Kamigawa. We get far too few evil white (Elesh Norn is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Well, and the Orzhov guild, but they're black too), just as we get too few black or red heroes (especially intelligent red. Red is too often portrayed as the stupid colour).

the only trouble i have with him is finding the mana to put him into play... looks like i'm gonna start running him in my green deck with rancor and lure...

throw in a little oath of druids, yavimaya elder, and sakura-tribe elder.

7 mana for an unblockable 3/3... sure, it has vigilance and can combine blocking and attacking... but otherwise it would be crap! anyway, by the time you hit 7, it's just not what you need, nor what you want to pay for. 3/5 for being cool, annoying and kid-amazing

Notes to self:
1) Put in deck with Worldslayer
2) Alter and rename to Gwyn, Lord of Cinder

@MyrBattlecube: YES! So much win... and make sure you change his color to red somehow when you do that! Now I would just need to enchant a silver knight with vow of lightning, make him legendary, and change his name to Soilare of Astoria

This guy is about to be so very, very obsoleted by Avacyn, Angel of Hope. And he deserves it, for starting the whole physical world/spirit world war.

Big, scary samurai that's not a fox! I like it. His indestructibility makes him great for casual or EDH in which you can play him and avoid getting bolted.
He's also super fun with worldslayer.

@DarthParallax: I disagree. He isn't so much stupid as he is just exceedingly arrogant and uncaring. After all, he was never in any real danger, as long as he had That Which Was Taken, none of the spirits would dare to attack him. He isn't a nice guy at all, but I saw his plan as more of a calculated, sociopathic one then a stupid one.

@Whitewizard42: I can't speak for everyone, but for me, Avacyn will never completely overshadow this guy because: 1) Konda is one mana cheaper, 2) Konda has more supported creature types, 3) Konda wears a Stamp on his head and fights with a cricket bat. 4) I actually own a copy of Konda.

@Aburaishi: I couldn't swear on it, but I think it just might happen. It says "whenever this blocks or becomes blocked", if he becomes blocked twice...

I love the flavour. I might well make a white edh deck and throw him in with Avacyn as commander. He's not that great a card (Avacyn overshadows him in every way) but he has great flavour. I think he should have flash to improve the flavour further. If he had that, he could compete with Avacyn.

Not only did Kamigawa feature one of the only white villain cards.

It also featured one of the only Black Hero cards.

Toshiro Umezawa

It also arguably featured the only good MTG books written in quite a while. At least personally I adored them.

This is my dude.

This feels like what Personal Incarnation could've been. Bushido and vigilance together guarantees a lightning bolt to the noggin every round. Being indestructible means that even if you do have red shenanigans, he'll shake most of it. He's also made for shenanigans, like forcing a block with False Orders or the like and giving him trample or a well-timed fling after the block. He's spendy, but there's more than a few pieces like Grand Arbiter Augustin IV to power him out with.

You should always cheat this card out, no exceptions. In T7 it's unimpressive. In T4 or less fresh out of the graveyard it can be a damn scary beast.

4.5/5 W needs more of this, desperately.

The Tenth Edition flavor text on Pariah really shows Konda's villainy.

If there was some way to give him provoke... Like, Target creature blocks this turn if able. Untap it. Or does that already exist? I'm thinking Ink-treader nephilim + something along the lines of rampage on Konda, and then swinging, would pretty much wipe the defenders board. Overly complicated, but perfect for the inner Johnny.
