With sword of feast and famine this card becomes a nasty surprise for unsuspecting opponents and it fits in any deck with red.

Surprisingly, I have found that, even more than Broodmate Dragon, this is the guy to play if your running a dragon in a Jund deck (semi-competitive) my Jund deck runs 4, plus 3 Flameblast and 4 Broodmate, but I take out the flameblast and all but one of the broodmates whenever I play Extended on FNM or whatever with it...
Haste on a guy this large plus flying is incredible, and his ability, while your not going to use it very often, can help you easily win games.

I srsly think that it was an oversight that they didn't include "play this ability only once each turn". WIth that, this would've been awesome. As it stands without, it's one of the most easily abused cards in multiplayer, like EDH.

@pedrodyl That's why this is a rare and Volcanic Dragon is an uncommon. If they were all this good, it would defeat the purpose of rarities, now wouldn't it?

this is beautiful...this card with koth of the hammer...and plenty of geomancy related cards...especially in a dragon deck...amazing...
I like the iguana-like art. It makes a lot of sense on a Zendikar dragon. Just commenting on that. And this guy is great in multiplayer formats (mostly EDH, but Archenemy probably deserves a mention too). Explosive activated ability + haste + body make this a staple in any R/G deck I build.

Poor mans 6 CMC dragon of choice in casual formats. Cheap to buy (50 cents), but what a punch it packs. Can be 5 damage out of nowhere, and the threat of its activated ability can be scary.

As we saw with aurelia, extra combat steps on a creature is insane. The fact that this takes 7 mana to activate? meh. fine for casual play. It's a 5 power flyer with haste which is pretty much good in and of itself. Also goes infinite with sword of feast and famine and bear umbra.
