Limited blocker? Monstrosity aside, there's not much that's going to be swinging for more than 6 is common or uncommon. Passes the P/T CMC ratio test. People are too critical on defensive creatures.

That's one, no two, fat-ass horses...

Same CMC and P/T as Nemesis of Reason. Not nearly as good. Might see play in Limited though, as it will be able to block almost every creature out there.

Centaurs make so much sense to have giant toughness. They're pretty much all butt.

Jeez, that's a fat butt. I can imagine the damage they'd do if given trample...
Or the effectiveness if given vigilance...

The slowest horse wins. This is the king's sons switching horses.

Compare with Catacomb Slug from Return to Ravnica. Same CMC, different color, and this has +1/+1.

Green is a good control color in Theros draft. This guy is a great blocker to buy you time. That's about all there is to say.
Presenting a comprehensive list of the best monogreen vanilla creatures per CMC, by highest power and toughness, to date (only "true" vanilla creatures, and not "virtual vanillas" like WIld Nacatl):
As you can see, this has easily the most defense of any green vanilla 5-drop to date, allowing it to block almost everything with impunity. This is something of a spiritual successor to other defensive creatures like Ironroot Treefolk or Redwood Treefolk, showing that Richard Garfield was definitely onto something with that early design - sometimes what you need is a defender that can hold down the fort while you build up to something stronger.
