Core set cards are supposed to be designed to teach new players things. This one apparently teaches them that lands are colorless.

This can stop the splinter twin combo btw. gets around spellskite. Cheap enough to let you have counter magic of your own as backup.

I sideborded this in inplace of Pacifism at the prerelease.

Is it me, or is Sarlena really obnoxious?
Also, this is far better than Deathmark. Like, crazy how much better it is.

What cards does this deal with? Phyrexian Obliterator, Grave Titan, Inferno Titan, Splinter Twin, any red planeswalker, any black planeswalker (duh).
Pretty nice card.

This also hits animated Raging Ravine, Lavaclaw Reaches, and Creeping Tarpit. :( I'm sad because I like those lands.

This is easily the most powerful of the core set uncommon color-hate cycle. Deathmark might be cheaper, but it's sorcery speed, limited to creatures, and impotent against regerators or invulnerable creatures.
Like I said in my comment on Oblivion Ring, white is R&D's love child. This is totally 3-4x sideboard tech in any deck with white.

It should really say: "Banish target black or red permanent to the moon." Because that's how Celestia purges things.

I don't like just how much better the white hate card is in the core sets. White can deal with any permanent after it hits the board and at instant speed. Blue must draw their hate spell before the opponent plays their spell, but it can deal with anything including instant and sorcerys. Black is sorcery speed and can only hit creatures. Red, while instant, only deals damage to creatures, so large creatures can survive. Green gets a crappy anti-counterspell/anti-spot removal that still must be drawn before an opponent casts their spell.
Seems like they could have balanced them just a little better is all.

Compare to Devout Lightcaster. I call bull shit on this card. Moreover, look at its first printing- CONFLUX!!! The same set as NICOL BOLAS, PLANESWALKER.
OK- so every card needs an answer. Fine, I can accept that. But this is too much. It's too good, too versatile, too unmerciful. This card half-ruined how awesome Nicol Bolas was supposed to be. In the end, he got less respect than Phyrexian Obliterator as 'posterboy of the set' Mythic Rare. Nicol Bolas is strictly for casual, whereas Phyrexian Obliterator can and does show up in older formats, especially where they allow Dark Ritual. Oblivion Ring does everything Celestial Purge does, plus a little more fairness.

Darkest Hour makes a quick combo to start exiling any creatures they throw out. had a deck with 3 darkest hour and 4 purges. made for fun removal without thinking about color

This card is almost perfect. I would put 4 of these in every sideboard I had. The only reasons I rated this a 4 instead of a 5 is that it can't win the game on its own and it IS just sideboard. Still disgustingly good. I get to EXILE stuff as an instant for just 2 MANA!

Excellent card. Very powerful removal for anyone in white.
I know a lot of people here are saying sideboard only... But if you know the meta game, you will know that this can and is main deck material. If you look at some deck lists from some of the top pro players in the world, you will find this card main decked....
It is not sideboard only. It depends on the event, format and what you will expect to see... As with all cards. Nothing is ever "sideboard only" with how diverse this game is...

Seriously, nobody's read the PERMANENT thing? Exiling at instant speed for 1W is so powerful, just to mention: Liliana, Koth, Chandra, Sorin, Nicol Bolas. Theros' Gods. Enchantments that often say "you loose" like Blood moon or Sneak Attack.
Can't see it rated below 5 and sideboarded in any white deck.

This card isn't as good as it looks. For the most part, it reads: Exile target black or red creature, enchantment or planeswalker.
