For the low, low cost of 7, you can hit your opponent for a ruthless ONE damage! witness the absolute power!

When I read the text for this card, I died a little inside. How little? Oh, about the amount that Giant Slug can deal to me by paying and waiting a turn.

I went out and bought this card when I found it on here. Major props to the guy who uses it as a win condition.

I knew this guy once who liked to **** with little kid by beating them to one life then playing this card to finish them off. It was worse then being killed by a Birds of Paradise.

I totally agree with shady-tradesman. For those of us who can appreciate good deck-making, I'd give props to anyone who could use this guy to kill anyone.

Well, it's a slug! Of course it's ability is slow. The costing 5 mana part can't be explained by flavour, though. Ilike how the slug in the art is beating up a guy with its eyestalk.

This card is overpowered. It can finish your opponent off all on its own! You only need to pump just 100 mana in it in total.

This is a very good card, actually. Black mana often has ways up pumping up a monster for one turn, such as Howl from beyond. Just before your opponent's turn ends, spend 5 to make this unblockable. Then it's your turn and those 5 lands untap and can be used on the nasty slug-strengthening card.

Goes with training grounds. Seriously though this is a total design failiure. A 1/1 that gives itself optional landwalk lacks synergy of any type. 1B for a 1/1 isn't so bad though, especially back then so I'll give it.... yah I'm still giving it .5

It's like an infinitely more killable Helix Pinnacle: 100 mana = win.
That might do it. manabase might be little shaky when you do not dare use many non-basic lands. Bad card.

For this one card, you'd think WotC would make it so we could rate a card = 0.

Wanna know something funny?
This card has potential in a Necrotic Ooze deck... How else am I going to make my +100/+100 Necrotic Ooze unblockable in mono-black? The five mana activation isn't necessarily a problem in the deck because it runs an infinite mana combo through Magus of the Coffers and Pili-Pala. If only it wasn't for the "wait a turn" clause, it'd make the cut over Trespasser il-Vec, only losing out to Trespassing Souleater.
So I tried really hard, but still couldn't find a use for it. That's what's funny.

I do like the artwork though. Still, that's small consolation. This slug deserves the salt treatment.
I had almost forgotten about this horrible card... wow... can it get any slower?

Puts your opponent on a twenty-turn clock, and requires only 5 mana to be unblockable every turn? I'm sold! Actually, I do like the art. Lookit the eye-tentacle clubs!

This is why you should not run basic lands in your deck...

+ every turn just for 1 damage? No thanks. That's worse than Razor Boomerang — at least that only costs instead of to win!

Historic. The very first unblockable creature.
The dual lands like Underground Sea counted (and still count) as basic land types, and back then there just weren't that many other nonbasic lands. If you weren't going mono-artifact, you were susceptible to one of the five landwalks.
Obviously ": This creature is unblockable until end of turn" is not aggressively costed, even for its day... until you remember that you were required to run Homelands cards in many tournament formats of that time. Giant Slug plus Feast of the Unicorn was a serious late-game finisher.
If you ever play some kind of Old Cards Pauper game, run the slugfeast beast with Wall of Shadows and Will-o'-the-Wisp, both of which are nasty with Feast of the Unicorn. You could employ Drudge Skeletons and Unholy Strength to round out the deck with a 'buffs + regeneration' theme.
Invisible Stalker is the latest in a long line of critters for whom Giant Slug was seminal. :)

There is one (very small) interesting thing about this card: It gains the ability on your next upkeep, which means that you can pump left-over mana into it at the end of your opponent's turn.
Obviously this doesn't matter because it has one power, but it's interesting design, and would have been fun in permission decks if it had been on a creature with higher power.

It takes 102 mana to win with the Giant Slug, but only 101 with the pinnacle!
Speaking as a Worldwake guy, though, this is suddenly looking better when it seems as if I might win only the 20th turn or so!
CAN'T FIGHT THE WORLDWAKE POWER!!!!!!!!!
That might do it.
