What's so bad about reprinting raise dead? Maybe raise dead suggests that the creature should come into play?

5/5 for Nevinyrral flavor text. Really digging all the references in this set.

@LunarAvenger
That's exactly why they won't reprint it. In fact that's why they made this one in the first place.

Well I am digging the new flavor text, at least.

strictly worse than Ghoulcaller's Chant. i used this in a zombie/grave pact deck until the chant was printed. 5/5 just for nostagia

LAWDY LAWD, MY BIR'DAY DONE COME EARLY (two typos in the same set, both on black cards - see Wit's End - real subtle, Wizards)

Pro tip: When you use this card choose the best creature in your graveyard to return.

For maximum opponent rage:
T1: Mountain, Vexing Devil
opponent rolls eyes and takes 4
T2: Swamp, this, Vexing Devil again
=D

Very low cost and it's a 1 for 1. Not very good early game (despite being easy to cast early game) since the discard pile is smaller. In the end, this is a good card, but you can use the space in your library for something better.

@Goatllama

Not necessarily a typo, since it's perfectly grammatical. Compare the sentences "it's like a jar painted red" and "it's like a jar is painted red". Both valid, but meaning slightly different things: one's making a comparison to a jar (which happens to be painted red), and the other to the fact that the jar is painted red.

The flavour text here, "it's like my birthday come early", has the same structure as my first example and is fine with that meaning.

I have a question. Why doesn't this card exist:

{U}/{B}

Instant

Return target creature card from an opponent's graveyard to their hand.

The purpose of such a card would be to give Control a tool against Combo. Specifically a Tool to give the Game an Answer to Reanimator. Faithless Looting, cycling, and other such effects would be quite vulnerable to a card that can mess with tempo, putting the card back into their hand, much like Unsummon targeting their graveyard. The purpose of this over Exiling cards from graveyard, would be the same as the purpose of Unsummon over Doom Blade, only played out in the graveyard instead of the battlefield. When you run Unsummon and Doom Blade in the same deck, you have powerful Control on the battlefield. When you run Exile effects with my Graveyard Bounce spell, you have a similar Control over Reanimator's Graveyard.

Raise dead is rated more than a full star higher than this one, despite being exactly the same card with a different name.

I like your cousin better.

Not a bad card, but not competitive worthy.

Honestly I'd like to see something like this combined with DarthParallax's idea as a replacement, even it meant costing {1} more.

Instant

Return target creature card from a graveyard to its owner's hand.

Being instant and multipurpose would help this see play I think; The cost increase wouldn't be a big deal since it would A) allow for a surprise factor, B) allow you to cast it at the end of your opponents turn so you can have your mana around just in case, and C) Not matter much for how this is generally used anyways ; rarely on turn one or two.
