@Ferlord Actually one of the most popular EDH commanders costs only one mana: Rhys the Redeemed. And he allows you to use two colors! Besides I don't ever see myself casting Mikaeus for one mana, as he'd be a 0/0 :P
As for Standard Constructed, I really want to use this along proliferate, but in mono-white I'd have to use Tezzeret's Gambit and the Contagion cards, but mono-white would be ideal for cards like the new Elite Inquisitor and Grand Abolisher

My initial thought: Combos with itself. But then I remembered the legend rule. Derp. So, I went looking for ways to make Mikaeus combo with "itself". I decided on this:
With a Mikaeus, the Lunarch in your graveyard: tap Mikaeus, tap Necrotic Ooze: Put two +1/+1 counters on each other creature you control.

@CaptainNinJoe Or use that Mirror Gallery card from Kamigawa. According to the story, he is like the head of the church of Avacyn while she is gone. I wonder if he will play a good guy role or a bad guy role. As for the card itself, it is looking to be abused with modular creatures and stuff. He can also work well in white weenie. Turn one, Elite Vanguard, four Memnites. Turn two, Mkaeus, 1 counter. Swing for 6. Turn three, remove his counter. He dies, but now you can swing for 11. Or if you played Honor of the Pure, swing for 16. And a Mox Opal and another Honor of the Pure will make that a 21 swing. And thats just Standard.

This probably would be a decent EDH general, but it's annoying that it has neither green nor blue. He'd be absolutely insane with Gilder Bairn, or Spikes, or most Simic things (especially Experiment Kraj), or Leech Bonder, or Proliferate, or Doubling Season, or...
And just make sure that nobody else has Experiment Kraj out when you cast this.
But I can't really think of anything in mono-white that combos with this. Well, beyond just getting a ton of creatures, of course.

Honestly, he'd probably be a great card even without the ability to tap himself to regrow counters. It's just icing on the delicious cake. Flexibility ftw!

this is another one of those cards that looks cool, but he takes too much prep work to be as cool as you want him to be. I just can't see this guy bein around long enough to have a significant affect.
He has to have haste or else sit there for while. Either you or him is gonna get smoked for a turn while that happens. And when he has been around for 2 turns, your guys are now as buff as if you had played oneglorious anthem or one honor of the pure... Not enough!
quest for renewal would make him a little more useful than a bump on a log...
I think most of the time his most useful attribute is the fact that comes at whatever size you can pay for at the time.

I don't really understand the high praise of this card. Sure, he would make for an interesting white-weenie EDH general, but his lack of haste or evasion (or even vigilance) makes him a pretty fat target for an opponent. Also, consider that for the mana cost, Ajani Goldmane is far more efficient. You can't pump 7 or 8 mana into Ajani, but at least he has an effect the turn he comes into play AND gives creatures vigilance.

First time I saw this I thought it was a 1/1. Now that would rock standard. A white hydra that can share its counters around and is playable at any point on your curve? Wow. I know this guy is great, but every time I see him I remember what I thought he was and get a little sad.

I mean, a general that costs 1 (techincally) is pretty awesome. Isamaru, Hound of Konda is the only one i can think of right now... and... well...
