Poor thing... It tries so hard to be a good card.

Oh well, there's always next set

It's not that it is a bad card. A 3/3 flyer for 5 has always been good in limited. But as a lord, it really under performs.

This card's actually pretty much a bamf in limited. 3/3 flier for 5 is good (not phenomenal, but good) and his ability to boost your other little guys like Moon Heron, Lantern Spirit and the Midnight Haunting tokens into very relevant attackers is great.

He won't win you the game on his own back, but his body will go a long way towards getting you there itself, and the ability stapled on to him can go miles as well.

Ok in limited, blows in constructed, even in spirit tribals. 1/5

Like mentioned with Gallows Warden, the amazing artwork, name, and flavor text are being mocked by its weak mechanics. I'm not even joking when I say that I'm sort of depressed over the lack of usefulness of the two half Spirit Lords.

A 3/3 flyer for the cost of five, can boost other spirit creatures +1/+0. Really helps with weaker cards like Lantern Spirit and to the Spirit tokens. But I really like the artwork on this card its awesome.

Maybe if it was 4 CMC or +1/+1 to all spirits, it could be usful, but this is terrible...

@ThisisSakon There certainly is always next set; check out Drogskol Captain. THAT is a real spirit lord.

Spirits are a tribe that all have good evasion- either flying, unblockable, hexproof, or some combination therof.

Although they aren't as powerful as, say, Specters-- they DID have a whole Block based on them in Kamigawa. They were never really going to make a good efficient Lord for either Specters or Spirits because those Tribes are- actually- just strictly more powerful (in the normal sense of the word, not in the strategic sense- please forget about tempo for a sec)- than Elves, Goblins, Merfolk, Soldiers, etc.

I don't know off the top of my head if there is a potentially supportable Tribe in the other colors that is like Specters or Spirits- maybe Trolls for Green? But yeah- not every Tribe can have a Vampire Nocturnus. Nor should they.

That said, it would be quite easy to make this strictly more powerful with a simple art alter:
just give Mace Windu's ghost back his purple lightsaber ;D

EDIT: Drogskol Captain, eh Wizards? Fine. I will stop making claims about you would and won't print. :p It only encourages you to prove me wrong with bad Mythics (except for overpowered Walkers), broken Uncommons, and Rares that make the board state even sillier than it was five seconds ago. :p

I really wouldn't say that it underperforms as a lord. Keep in mind that this is an uncommon, and before innistrad, pretty much all lords were rare. Yes, this is five mana, but how many uncommon lords had you seen up until that point that were also 3/3 flyers? By all means, the DKA lords (Drogskol Captain & friends) are definitely good enough to be rares, so don't judge this card based solely on those.

Decent, but not worthy of constructed.
The Avacyn flavor is nice though.
