You could use it to remove a -1/-1 counter from a creature with persist. Still horrible card.

Ahem. First of all it does remove -1/-1 counters, there was a rules change when Shadowmor came out. Second, I don't know why he was talking about force of will, that really is a random comment. Lastly reinforce is an ability of Morningtide where you can discard certain cards to put a given amount of +1/+1 counters on a creature, which is like this card but as an ability (which is harder to counter)
Make sure you are right before you put your foot in your mouth.

Hmmm... Even with Isocheron Scepter, this is still pretty bad...

Cantrip would have been nice. Still, with proliferate I guess you could get it to do something?

i don't get why this is rated so low. if anyone actually used this then they wouldn't rate it a 1/5. This combos with things like triskelion, any arcbound card, any clockwork card, pentavus, and Joraga warcaller. Also the fact that it's instant means that you can surprise your opponent and usually take out a good creature of theirs.

@Tommy9898: But mai feetz taste so gud!!!!!
I'm not a big fan of this card, but it has its uses, maybe in a graft deck or proliferate. Never really used it much, more of a niche card, or a saver for something getting bolted that will stay there

Not a good card, but its utility has gone up somewhat now that proliferate is around. it's still pretty useless compared to giant growth, or even monstrous growth.

so much ado about nothing eh??? 5/5 for creating an angry mob
what say? none of these comments make any sense!! It wouldn't remove a -1/-1 counter! it woud cancel the negatives but it would still be there! Force of will!? Thats good vs anything!? I cant even find reinforce!
Edit: allow me to remove my foot. I see now that commenting on cards while drunk is a poor idea. I only know I was cause that's when I make typos (which I have fixed.) I see my mistakes there and I get what your saying but I swear to god someone did mention force of will! I know I wasn't that drunk. My apologies everyone. :)
Why do people vote this down? I'm using this in my hydra deck. Primordial hydra+Battlegrowth=Even MOAR counters doubled next turn! It's effectively giving you two more counters when used in this combo every time you use it.

Yeah this card has been outclassed. Still it really shines when you can take something out with this, while keeping your creature. Some other situations like Spikeshot Goblin or double strike creatures to benefit from this more.

This is one of those cards that isn't very good but just needs to exist for the sake of it. It's a +1/+1 counter at instant speed for 1 mana. That's not a great thing by any means, but it is at least basic, easy to understand, and has potential for expansion.
2.5/5. It's an instant that can work as a minor combat trick. It also slightly helps almost any creature. Probably not worth a card unless you have a REALLY good reason to want a single counter, but I don't mind it.

There are currently two cards that are strictly better than this: • Burst of Strength also untaps the creature. • Hunger of the Howlpack provides three counters if a creature died this turn.
Additionally, you might want to take a look at Savage Summoning as well, which acts as a safety package if you're about to cast the creature you want to put a +1/+1 counter on.
In black, there's Undying Evil, which can revive creature and add a +1/+1 counter via temporary undying.
