Ha. You can sacrifice the creature or otherwise get it back into the graveyard to use another copy of this spell on it again. This card's effect is what unearth should have been: exile the card you res only if you didn't use it to its fullest. Still I can understand why only Phyrexia could have thought of using all of its resources and being rewarded for it... Is that sword from Bant?

Yes, I'll have another swing with Ball Lightning please.

Flavorful. But pretty bad. The point of reanimation is to get huge expensive creatures from your gy to play for cheap. This doesn't work if I have to pay as much mana as the creature costs anyway. In addition to life or more mana. I'm sure quite a number of people will assume they can pay X with life with this card.
I don't see a "if it would leave the battlefield..." clause, so it seems like you could bounce the dude back after swinging, (or being swung at)- nice!

I came here to comment on how I'd like more Ball Lightnings. I hate it when people beat me to it,

It's essentially a second copy (for one turn) of whatever bomb/utility creatures you have in Limited that have been destroyed/discarded. The cost difference is negligible (yes you pay one mana or 2 life more, but you also don't have to worry about difficult mana requirements on creatures like the Chancellors).

The phyrexia mana cost makes this that much better.
Cool.

@ majinara This card isn't directly for reanimator. What I mean by that is, you don't get your Scion of Darkness or Avatar of Woe with this, you get another use of your Doomed Necromancer and then get your big target with it.
Obviously not for reanimator, this seems to be made for ball lightning style decks.

Rules question: Postmortem Lunge used with blistergrub. Does blistergrub hit the graveyard before its exiled? What is "the next end step" ?

★★★★☆ (4.2/5.0)(2 votes)
to dwhofmann, unless you have a way to sacrifice it or any other way to send it to your graveyar before the next end step (is the name of one phase, check the rules on that) , blistergrub will be exiled, and no, it won't touch the graveyard this way, so it's effect won't trigger.
and my own question again: does this card works like a blaze with Rage Extractor? or it would only deal 1 point of damage? I need to know this so I can get three more copies of this card or just forget about it...

Echoes, Abyssal Persecutors, and all your other more-powerful-than-its-cost creatures are useful again for a turn. Helps get that one-more hit in with Putrefaxes and the like for those without access to Mimic Vats. You also don't have to worry about this getting Crushed or timing it properly for the creature to be imprinted.

Play the Lunge in 187-style aggro.

Discard or sacrifice your Dryad Arbor and then let her do a Postmortem Lunge for 2 life onto the battlefield and abuse her haste-powered body to produce ! :D
Then butcher her again to Orcish Lumberjack or something to prevent her from getting exiled (and produce even more mana) :P
Or use it with Tinder Wall on turn one to get for and two life at the cost of two cards. Maybe add something with death triggers, e.g. a Pawn of Ulamog.
This spell is awesome, haste allows really great tricks! Especially with cheap creatures that would otherwise have to wait a turn before you can make use of their tap ability (e.g. Rootwáter Diver or Tragic Poet, which are both kept from exile since they're sacrificed. Goblin Welder comes to mind as well. The aforementioned Lumberjack. Apprentice Necromancer to get something big under the same conditions, and maybe even flip Kuon, Ogre Ascendant while you're at it. Llanowar Druid to untap your forests, maybe in some weird Madness deck?)
I think i'm gonna build a deck with that spell, Dryad Arbor, Green Sun's Zenith, Spellbreaker Behemoth, some Demigods and the Lumberjack now. Maybe i can finally create a Legacy deck with that guy that works out :)
And afterall you can use also simply use it to recast any creature for its cmc and with haste for a turn. E.g. a Sun Titan, which can return an Eternal Witness (permanently), and which again can return you Postmortem Lunge (or something else.) Oh, and the artwork is pretty badass, too.
Use it to get back your splicers, then keep the golem. Or just have a titan go on a little rapefest for a turn.

Solemn Simulacrum coming in hot! If they aren't blocking to kill, hopefully you have another sacrifice outlet though.

Seems pretty decent with either: 1. Hard hitters like Ball Lightning or Putrefax. 2. Cards that give tokens like any of the Splicers from New Phyrexia or Kessig Cagebreakers. 3. Shenannigans like Unsummoning the creature or Sundial of the Infinite. So, I think it's pretty nifty, albeit not always practical.

Quick question. If I have mirrorworks on the battlefield and i use postmortem lunge to bring back a creature to the battlefield(as card says), can I make a copy with mirrorworks? Does the copy get exiled along with the creature that was brought back with postmortem lunge? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This is an underplayed card. You can do just silly things like throw Myr Superion out for a Merfolk looter drop and smash in for 5 damage for 3 mana.
You can also look at using this with Mill yourself Skaab decks to bust out a Skabb w/o the casting restriction.
Also don't forget that if you sacrifice the creature before the end step to Culling Dais or something similar, then the creature won't be exiled allowing for more recursion.
The sexiest part of this card though is the ability to do any of that without actually having a single color restriction.

As with a lot of temporary reanimation cards, I don't see the need for the "Exile it again" clause. Especially with the mana cost, repeatably copying this is a bit unweildy and there are better ways of making immortal creatures. Plus, if it dies in any other way, it isn't exiled! The ***, Wizards!? Make up your mind! That being said, I do really like this card. The art is great and the flexibility makes for many an interesting shenanigan. "Creature rezzing? In a blue deck!? Madness I say!"

This card looks very good with Death's Shadow in a sort of suicide black deck. Vexing Devil also looks insane with this too. I believe this card can be made playable, and I really want to try to apply it in Modern.
