But then level up when you realize you can use Dredge with it (Use the ability, replace draw with dredge, then discard the card you dredged and untap the Ooze to do it all over again). I recommend Golgari Brownscale, for the chance to gain around 40 life.
This is a super-easy (and Modern legal!) way to mill your whole deck. Then, just fill your deck with singletons of any creature-based infinite combo that the Ooze can make use of, and win. Pick whichever one you prefer, I tend to like Palladium Myr/Pili-Pala to generate infinite mana, then win using Bloodrite Invoker's ability for style points.

I don't love transforming, but I really dig this guy. I really want him to hold a Diviner's Wand...

Lol ate the flavor text. But it won't replace my Merfolk Looter.

Surprisingly powerful in the pre-release limited, mainly because it can help weed out unnecessary cards from your deck. And the flip-form is a mid-game bruiser. A decent hybrid of utility and strength, Jekyll is fun. Plus, the art is quite nice.

This MIGHT (probably not) be playable in standard because you can copy it, then, when you discard a creature it untaps but doesn't transform so you can loot to your hearts content. However, 2 card combos need to be more powerful than infinite looting in standard, still, something to think about.
If you have the Ooze outside, you can mill your entire library by using dredge creatures until you have the top card you want for the Borrower. Like Phyrexian Devourer for example - this one also allows you to ensure that you can discard a creature card to keep untapping the Ooze. As MrBarrelRoll said, Golgari Brownscale is an excellent dredge choice here. Golgari Thug is also nice - he doesn't give you life, but can be cast far easier; his death trigger might be of use for Skill Borrower, and the high dredge is useful when you don't have your Scholar yet.
The other way round, if Civilized Scholar is on top with Skill Borrower outside, you can tap her, discard the scholar, untap her, and use her again with the next top card while you got the Scholar in your graveyard for your Ooze.
This card was really good in seal, forcing my opponents to throw down removal spell just to get rid of him.

I did some testing and found that this quy works really well with my self-mill deck. First, you tap him, draw a card and then discard a creature to transform him. You now have a 5/1 brusier that more likely than not is going to be taken out by a small creature. You have now made your Splinterfright and Kessig Cagebreakers more effective.

Okay... if civilized scholar transforms into homicidal brute and the next turn brute gets tapped by the other player does he transform back? His affect states that he must tap then transform, but if he is already tapped he can't transform. At least that's what i would think.

I like that he's drawing extra attention to his hat, in case we hadn't noticed the awesome hats people wear in Innistrad.

AVGN doesn't approve this creature.
Something funny I've done once.
Turn 1 : Island, Hedron Crab
Turn 2 : Land, Renegade Dopperganger
Turn 3 : Land, this, use Renegade Dopperganger's new ability, draw a card, discard a Dredge card. You have discarded a creature, so Renegade untaps, but doesn't transform. Dredge, then discard it again. Do it until you have 10 cards in your library.
Turn 4 : Swamp, Skaab Ruinator (from your grave), Gravecrawler (from your grave), put 4 Vengies (you have cast two creatures), Attack with 4 Vengies and 1 Renegade Dopperganger (5/6). GG

Slightly odd question, but does this work?
1.) Tap Civilized Scholar, putting its ability on the stack. 2.) In response, Untap your Crackleburr, civilized scholar and another blue creature. Put Crackleburr's bounce ability on the stack. 3.) Tap Civilized scholar, putting its ability on the stack. 4.) Civilized scholar's ability from 3 resolves, discard a creature card, transform it into Homicidal Brute and untap it. Allow Crackleburr's bounce ability to resolve. 5.) Tap Homicidal Brute, Crackleburr and another red creature, Putting Crackleburr's burn ability on the stack. Allow it to resolve. 6.) Allow Civilized Scholar's ability from 1 to resolve, discard a creature card, transforming Homicidal Brute back into Civilized Scholar. Untap it.
If someone better at the rules than I can tell me if this checks out, Theoretically this can be continued as long as you have mana to pay for Crackleburr's abilities and creature cards to discard while looting. Each cycle costs , loots twice, deals 3 damage to a creature or player and bounces a creature. If your other creature is also a Civilized scholar, add 2 more lootings to that.

And he also works with Quicksilver Elemental and Experiment Kraj (but the setup requires far more mana).
