It's an awesome combo card. It really works best with creatures that are both red and blue, though. It's tempting to try to use it with just blue creatures, but it's remarkably fiddly to get this one and two others tapped when you want them to be.

i love this card. Not enough good red untap creatures to use it with. R/U could have used some more hybrid creatures with tap or untap abilitys to make this guy more competitive. Good with hate flayer, fate stitcher, and banishing knack, along with some other cards (i'll leave it to you)for a fun casual combo deck.

This thing is pretty disgusting in U/R hybrid, particularly if you're playing with doubled mana.

Overall this card seems like it had so much potential, but they just made his activated abilities cost way too much. It's like it was almost too broken during playtesting or something, so they upped his costs and now it's just.....meh, not worth it. So many mediocre uncommons are better than this guy. And it's got such cool artwork too, which makes it all the more sadder....

It has Unsummon AND Lightning Bolt? Though I do agree that it DOES cost too much for both its untap and tap. It's like paying extra just to use a Lightning Bolt and vice versa for Unsummon. Though it IS fun playing it.

Saying that the costs of the abilities is too high is plain ridiculous. When you use this combo the right way, you can easily clear the opponents side within a few turns. Then, you can attack unanswered adnauseum(at least for them anyway).
Do not underestimate the power of these abilities together. Without upping the ante on your Lightning Bolt and Unsummon, then 'yes,' this card would be much overpowered.

Best friends with Tradewind Rider it can create enough bounces to clear an opponeents board in a couple of turns

This is solo for red and blue, one of those sets that had self contained combo power. Team this up with a first turn Streamhopper, a second turn Riverfall Mimic (which is a bloody broken card with Clout of the Dominus) and then drop your Crackleburr when you know you can protect it and you've got yourself a pretty sweet setup. Almost too easy.
Tricky to use, but when you pull it off it feels GREAT. And if (like me) you're using the sidestep deck just use burn trail or some other conspire spell to tap said blue creatures.

This isn't nearly as good as people are making it out to be. If an opponent sees this, they're sure not gonna just sit their twiddling their thumbs waiting for it to go off. You need a lot of COLORED mana. You need at least 2 creatures. Without that this is just a Grey Ogre.
But when it works... Elation.

If I have a crackleburr and a wind zendikon in play and crackleburr is tapped can I do this?
1. tap island for mana making a tapped creature
2. untap my now tapped blue creature for part of the cost
3. tap island for mana making a tapped creature again
4. untap my now tapped blue creature for a second time
5. untap crackleburr

Not very easy to get going, although I see this card only improving with future blocks once more red & blue hybrids are printed. Combines well with Crag Puca being another hybrid (with 4 toughness) which has a little better staying power then most cheaper R/U hybrid creature choices. And once your able to crack some burrs a little, just send Crag to lay down the beats with its switch effect.
Also combos well with Razorfin hunter. Just tapping down a couple of Razors to deal 2 points anywhere... then attack with Crackle using the untap bounce effect before blockers are declared (potentially removing another blocker if the first 2 points hasn't already done so) and then adding 2 more points from the Razors if needed, before any blockers are even declared! Now add a messier field with tons of mana... clear the board on one combat step without combat damage? Hmmm.... Don't forget this little baby is an elemental... tutor anyone? Flamekin Harbinger, Hmmmm....
5/5 (only gonna get better when more R/U hybrids get printed)

You guys think this is too expensive O_o?
Turn 1: Island, Stream Hopper Turn 2: Island, Stream Hopper, Paradise Mantle the first hopper, then tap it and Paradise Mantle the second hopper.
Turn 3: Island, this, Paradise Mantle this.
Turn 4: How u say tap for three mana then untap for 2 mana then tap for three mana then untap for 2 mana then tap for three mana then untap for 2 mana then tap for 3 mana then untap for 2 mana then..... Oh, and if you aren't understanding how you can keeping using it's second ability, I will now proceed to list all the 0 cost creatures I found that can be used as a target, to send back to your own hand, to then be played again.
Crimson Kobolds, Crookshank Kobolds, Kobolds of Kher Keep, Memnite, Ornithopter, Phyrexian Walker, and finally Shield Sphere. Oh, and you can use any one drop too. Since you've got three mana, and three -2 -1 = -3 = 0 so it's balanced out. You can get a when creature enters the battlefield effect from that.... and wreck.

Pay 4, Unsummon and Lightning Bolt every turn? Oh, and in the later game I can do it more than once? And it's hybrid mana?
Just stop right there, the only way this could get any better is if you could do this all before your attack step and tap and untap everything and THEN attack. Oh, you can. Damn this card is glorious. See you in every deck ever.

To get your blue creatures tapped, here are some ideas: -Sky Hussar: free card draw in your upkeep. Possibly one of the best combos in general. -Blue conspire spells (for twice the fun): Æthertow to uber-bounce two attackers (or blockers), Ghastly Discovery to draw four and discard two. Memory Sluice to mill for eight (the cheapest choice at 1cc, bot necessarily that useful...maybe if that gets your Threshold.)
Especially useful are also effects that ask you to tap an untapped creature for actvation, since this immediately let's you reuse the effect once your blue creatures got untapped with Crackleburr. -Opposition: good control card. -Tradewind Rider: two boomerangs each turn doesn't sound bad. -'tapping lords': Grand Architect (insane mana ramp for artifacts), Azami, Lady of Scrolls (huge card advantage) or Patron Wizard (for soft-counter control). -Benthicore is somewhat useful since it gives you two blue creatures that it can also tap (and gets untapped and shroud that way), and is an Elemental as well.
-Cryptic Gateway works nice in tribal decks: Tap two creatures for the gateway, put another creature on the field. Untap them with Crackleburr, bounce a creature. Tap these two again for the gateway, put a further creature on the field. Now you can tap the two new ones again for the gateway, and untap them again with Crackleburr if you can afford the mana. You see where this is going, especially when combined with Azami for instance. (Pity Smokebraider ain't blue :P You could always add a Quicksilver Elemental, though... Wind Zendikon also works great with Crackleburr, if you have two of them, that means unlimited Unsummons for you.)

I'm thinking that this guy needs... to have his costs examined as benefits... this block did this a lot, At least it did in blue... See Familiar's Ruse, and Drowner of Secrets for others.
I think I might just stick this in a pure blue deck for the untapping purposes. I'll fill it full of enchantments and instants that grant creatures "Tap: do stuff" abilities.

VERY elegant. With aforementioned in-block combo: T1: Stream Hopper T2: Riverfall Mimic , attack for 1 T3: This , attack for 4 T4: Use this ability! , attack for 5, 3 to the face
Total of 13 damage by T4. Not bad..
Notice that the ability: -needs two red blue, which you'll have without removal. -needs 4 mana and a tap, which you'll have the turn after this guy comes into play (ideal play of course..) -requires 7 cards to do! A perfect opening hand means that this combo works if uninterrupted, and it doesn't matter what you draw.
Now, there are better ways to use him of course. T3 mimic with Clout will do the 6 on t3 and is harder to interrupt. T4 you drop this guy, attack for 6, T5 do your combo for an extra 3, attack for 8.
1+6+6+8+3 = 24 damage and a bounce. Again.. neat card.
