wow it bleeped out the middle of classic! Way to write you language filter Wizards lol.

This card use to be very usefull back when it came out in Odyessy. It became very powerfull in a green deck that had good mana exceleration, it was almost always playable and it was never weak late game.

Unfourtantly now with Protean Hydra it really isn't a very strong card by comparison. Its sad really how power creep has killed this card, I don't think a new rarity justifys making older cards useless. I suppouse in theroy though this card might have somthing Protean Hydra does not, and that would be a more usefull tribal creature type. Though it seems like red really has the strangle hold on Elemental tribal right now.

Why isn't this creature a plant elemental?

if a card would put this into play without paying its mana cost it would die right? cuz it would be a 0/0?

@ metalevolence: You, sir, have a strange definition of unplayable. It might not be a game-winner, it may not be constructed worthy these days, but not every card has to be tier one to count as playable. Plenty of casual players are still to be seen sinking infinite mana into it, or just casting it as a big creature which can be played at any point in the game. If reprinted in a regular set I'm pretty sure it would prove more than adequate in limited, too.

I still like this guy, sure he's not as good as protean hydra but there's not as much pressure to play him super late either.

He's actually more like Kavu Titan than anything, not as powerful but more flexible. He has low color commitment and is never a dead draw. You shouldn't think of him as a power card but rather as a utility card who is an slightly below the curve vanilla creature.

It would be cool if they printed a card like this as an uncommon in a later set. Being able to be played for effect at any point in the game is great!

Combos with Forest

Feral Hydra is just better

I run it in a deck that also has a playset of Smokebraider. In most cases, though, you'd be better of running Feral Hydra.

Player 1 T1, Forest, Birds of Paradise.
P1: "Eh heh heh, fear my mana ramp!"
P2: "Pfft, what a useless one drop. My turn!"
Player 2 T1, Forest, Ivy Elemental.
P1: "Uhhh, you know that goes to the graveyard right away since it's.... uhh..... a 0/0?"
P2: "Wait what? What's the point of a creature if it just dies? That's stupid."
P1: "You're supposed to play more than 1 mana..... so it can have more than 0/0...."
P2: "That's just stupid. Whatever. I'll end my turn."
Player 1 T2, Forest, Kodama's Reach. Forest and Forest.
P2: "WHAT?! HOW DO YOU HAVE SO MUCH MANA! U HACK! WTF"
P1: "....."
P2: "MY TURN!"
Player 2 T2, Forest, tap one forest, pay on green, play Ivy Elemental.
P1: "No, tap both forests. Or it'll just die again. Pay 2, to make it a 1/1 at the very least."
P2: "Psh, what a noob, why would I waste my forest on something like that. It's only +1/+1, why would I bother with that when I can use.... GIANT GROWTH"
P1: "You know, it can't attack this turn because it has summoning sickness?"
P2: "Wait what? Why would I attack with your Bird of Paradise?"
P1: "You mean... you.... targetted my Bird of paradise...?"
P2: "Yes. Duh. It goes to the graveyard."
P1: "Please explain to me why it would."
P2: "Because, stupid, Birds are supposed to be light, so when they get big they're too heavy and they'll just fall down and die from gravity. Because they become too heavy."

P1: "Okay, listen, it doesn't say it becomes a giant, the spell's name is that, but all it's really doing, is adding 3 toughness and 3 power for this turn. Also, your Ivy Elemental is dead because it's a 0/0."

P1: "...........uhh, were you serious about trading my wood elemental for one of your cards?"
P2: "Yeah, totally. I hate these *** cards. Heck, I'll trade you multiple cards, to clear up some of my crap."
P1: "Uhhh...... let's do that now, I concede. Let's get on with it then, shall we?"
P2: "Kk, I'll trade you 4 Tolarian Academy's, 4 Black Lotus', 4 Ancestral Recall's, and how does 4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor's sound for 2 Wood Elemental's sound?"
P1: "Tell you what, I'll throw in all 4 of my Wood elementals, and then I'll throw in 4 Viashino Skeleton's for free too."
P2: "Hmmmm..... sounds like a good deal to me"
P1: "Kk, here, take them, now....?"
P2: "Actually, no, I change my mind. I hate Viashino Skeleton's, deal's off."
P1: "Cmon! I won't give you the Viashino's then? Look, I'll even throw in..... I'll throw in my Primalcrux!"

You can have an overcosted creature whenever you feel like it: inferior Squire, Gray Ogre, Hill Giant, Durkwood Boars, Torsten Von Ursus, Vizzerdrix -- take your pick!

Poison Ivy has her own card in Magic, wow.

This card is kinda cool....... but wtf, psuedonaut, seriously wtf. Way to be as tl;dr and unfunny as possible.

It's quite unfortunate to cascade into this.

Interesting card!! Could be great lategame, the green "fireball" on legs. But until you have an abundance of mana, its going to be a below the curve vanilla creature.
