It's better thanOrcish Artillery because it has a relevant creature type.

Is this a joke card?

Lifelink on this, and it's no joke. Tap to deal 2 damage to anything, and gain 2 life.

Lifelink is the only card that justifies the use of Goblin Artillery. Also, its definitely as funny as Orcish Artillery.

I have used this to win, without life link. You just have to have a commanding lead. I love goblins.

Not a great card without lifelink, but its hillarious, so it balances out.

This card may not make the cut in constructed, but it can prove rather useful in limited environments since it can take out key creatures or deal the last few points of damage. Also, it is possible to have 12 of these creatures in Casual. 4 goblins, 4 Orcish Artillery and 4 Orcish Cannoneers.

Harms Way + This= 4 Damage to your opponent/creature and 1 damage to you.

A very specialized card. Only certain decks this will run well in, since there's so many better TypeII {R} alternatives (Ball Lightning, Goblin Chieftain in goblin decks, Hell's Thunder, etc)

Looks good with Bazaar Trader. Tap and target opponent. On stack donate.

i just use this as a blocker, its only in my deck because its a goblin type. with quest for the goblin lord done, its a 3 for 3/3 goblin, which isnt bad

@Sironos It's because the ammunitions is goblins. Specifically, YOUR goblins.

I don't understand the concept: Why would artillery automatically damage yourself, and why would it damage you more than your target? Wouldn't it be more artillery like if it was about flipping a coin for a hit or miss, to mimic the inaccuracy?
I agree with Vedalken_arbiter, saccing a goblin would make much more sense, the way this works it's more like it uses your blood as ammunition, saccing a goblin would make sense.

The funny thing about this is it becomes awesome if you have Protean Hydra with an equipped Pariah's Shield XD. And even better if they both have Lifelink.

Anyways, just put Lifelink on the goblin and bam, you're dealing 2 damage to a target, 3 damage to yourself, but gaining 5 life.

You don't need Lifelink to use this guy effectively. Taking 3 damage to kill your opponent's evasive beaters is a good trade-off. Doing it a couple times gives you significant card advantage.

Played well, this card can let you gain control of the battlefield and get through with all your other goblins. It doesn't matter what your life total is if your opponent dies first.

P.S. Basilisk Collar > Lifelink for this guy. Just saying.

After using this to take down Baneslayer Angel, a Skithiryx (they thought they would get away with tapping that mana...), and an Elspeth, Knight-Errant tonight, I'm gonna go ahead and say this card is decently underrated. At least when you're using it in conjunction with Lighting Bolt or Galvanic Blast.

Not in M11 (nor Orcish)... I miss him.

@Sironos
It's not that it's using your blood as ammo but rather that the catapult is of crappy engineering (totally flavorful for both goblins and red in general)
It's a backlash of either the ammo (uncontrolled explosion) or the catapult itself hurting you.

The sac a goblin thing has been done, see Goblin Grenade

This thing can be a powerhouse. If you get a good start you should've hit your opponent for 5 damage by turn three already. Then put this one on the field and keep the attack going. Won me a few games.

So red has a long running subtheme of cards that can ping at the cost of dealing damage to you. At this point, there's enough of these "artillery" cards in the game to make a silly casual deck. I made that deck. Here it is:

4 basilisk collar
2 coldsteel heart
2 swiftfoot boots

2 deathless angel
4 goblin artillery
4 orcish artillery
3 orcish cannoneers
4 sparksmith
3 stuffy doll

4 pariah
3 personal sanctuary
2 enlightened tutor
1 orcish cannonade

2 vault of the archangel
(more land)

So personal sanctuary and artillery cards certainly have nice synergy as personal sanctuary removes the downside of artillery as long as you use it on your turn. Pariah is great too. Pariah is a fantastic card by itself. But it works well with artillery- if you need to kill a fairly big creature badly, you can now tap an artillery and 5 damage will hit the creature: the three damage that artillery would do to you is rerouted to the creature with pariah on it. Add that to the 2 dmg you've dealt to the creature already with an artillery. Or if you like, take out two separate smaller creatures. What's nice is that you can still do pariah artillery antics while personal sanctuary is in play- you just do them during the opponent's turn.

The fun starts when you stick pariah on a stuffy doll. By itself, I think pariah plus stuffy doll is a sort of mean and predictable combo and I'm not crazy about it. But what is fun is when you have that combo out and artiillery cards on the battlefield. Congratulations, you've now turned your artillery into a 5 dmg per turn threat! Or deal two dmg to an opponent's creature, three damage to them, and repeat it the next turn. And you're probably not going to die so long as they can't get rid of stuffy plus pariah...

And then there's basilisk collar. An artillery equipped with basilisk collar destroys a creature and the lifelink negates the damage the artillery deals to you, so you actually gain 2 life every time you use the equipped artillery. The funny thing is that if absolutely everything goes right in the deck, a basilisk collared artillery can do 5 damage to an opponent and gain you 5 life every turn. See how?

I also "splash" black with city of brass and vivid crag/meadow for vault of the archangel. Worth it? Idk.

So the deck isn't particularly good, but it is ironic- it turns the downside of a fairly bad line of cards into an advantage. And if you have some casual Johnny in your blood, that's something that you can't help but enjoy.

P.S.- Mogg maniac certainly wouldn't be bad in the deck either, as he has synergy with pariah and sparksmith. Also pain land+ pariah= fun

edit: Hah! I see that Gaffy has thought of some of these shenanigans. I tip my hat to you, sir!

Just played this guy in a chaos draft. (a draft with boosters from lots of different sets. You're drafting with stuff like M10, Born of the Gods and Odyssey in the same pick). This thing is actually amazing. Yes it's doing three damage to you, but when you're killing your opponent's creatures, you don't care it's losing you life. The life you save from their dude not attacking you is worth it.
