Isn't Indestructible a green keyword?

On creatures, it is green. But granting the ability, perhaps, is being flavored as white? Either way, I love it!

Indestructible is a funny thing. It's good, but it's not totally flawless. Creatures with Indestructible can still be exiled, sacrificed, put into the graveyard as a state-based effect for having 0 toughness, put into a player's hand, or put into a player's library.

It's lulzy that a single Unsummon can take out Indestructibility.

here is a question for the masses....... it says Enchant Target Permanent. a Planeswalker is a permanent. so i could Enchant say Jace. and if i did would he still leave play if his loyalty counters drop to zero either by being attacked or by downing his abilities????? I know what i think but i wounder what the rulings are.

This card is a complete pain in the butt when enchanted on Prized Unicorn >.>
"Oh look its indestructable and everything has to block it making room for my other attackers to hit you directly...Fun" >.<;

you can pay less for shield of oversoul but it only gives the Indestructible ability to green creatures and +1/+1

I love it! Still dealable as zinifera7 said above: "Creatures with Indestructible can still be exiled, sacrificed, put into the graveyard as a state-based effect for having 0 toughness, put into a player's hand, or put into a player's library."

In regards to enchanting your Planeswalker, it would still die when the loyalty counters are removed down to zero since it doesn't prevent damage from resolving. I think it would only be useful for things like "destroy target permanent" in that case.

But yeah, on any creature this can be trouble. Something with deathtouch? Prized Unicorn? Your favorite fatty? The White Planeswalker Serra Avatar maybe? This is a good candidate for Duress, Pacify, Blinding Mage, Entangle, Naturalize, Unsummon, or the white enchantment destruction spells out there.

It is great to see Darrell Riche appear in a Magic card once more. I missed him after the Shadowmoor block.

Awesome art.

If my 3/3 creature has indestructibility, and it either takes a 3 point Lightning Bolt or takes 3 points of combat damage, does it survive?

But not counting this card alone this card plus enchanted evening is a great battlefield position.

Put it on Uril the Miststalker and have some real fun!... well, primarily when you don't have your Shield of the Oversoul and you're playing elder dragon highlander- oh and Uril is your general. Good potential, just takes a bit more work to make its sense of security more than a false one for your elected permanent.

great to use against color combinations that can't readily handle enchantments, or don't utilize exiling. white exiles alot, green and white can destroy the enchantment no problem, and blue can always bounce and whatnot. this really shines against black, red or black/red. literally no way in standard for black or red to get rid of an enchantment, and all of their removal is destruction based/damage based.

Aside from the hilarious art, this is one of those cards that you've gotta use in some deck if you own it. Really, one of the best new auras.

This combined with Prized Unicorn creates offense that can't be blocked by creatures.
This combined with Palace Guard creates defense that can't be penetrated by creatures.

Whats scary is that white has both

If you put it on a planeswalker it would prevent it from being destroyed from spells that say "destroy target permanent". but when it's loyalty counters drop to zero it's still sent to the graveyard. indestructibility states "an indestructible CREATURE can't be destroyed by damage" so creature attacks and burn spells can still kill it.

this is rendered useless if the creature that blocks/attacks it has wither, as wither will make it an illegal target

I love that it targets permanents and not just creatures. So many possible combos it's scary. Only downside is the slightly-too-high mana cost, but it's usually worth it.

That card just blows. The art is the only good thing.
I mean indestructible stuff is great. It can still be stolen, sacrificed, shuffler away, exiled, bounced or in other ways rendered harmless, but as an enchant it's even worse. It gives your opponent all normal means of getting rid of an indestructible permanent, but adding "enchantment removal / replacement" to the mix. And if that wouldn't be bad enough, you then lose two cards (aura + permanent) instead of just one card (permanent) if your opponent gets rid of it.

I like the idea and design, but i think at this cost it will only very rarely be worth using it.
This basically means for your opponent that he either has to exile the threat itself or hose it in a similar way, or destroy this Aura at first before dealing with the enchanted card.
Then of course if he/she can't deal with enchantments you're lucky.
But in general, unless you're using this on a match-winning card, or to ensure that nobody messes around with one of your particular combo pieces, your opponent could also simply destroy another target with his removal. And if he can destroy the enchantment, this will likely cost him less than four mana.

Back then in Mirrodin i would likely have loved this card since i was a new player and considered this to be one of the most powerful abilities. This is likely also some players' favourite in this Core Set for similar reasons.
Well, the flavor and especially art of this card is still great for sure. Talking about the artwork, I'd like to see this one as Wallpaper of the Week.

How does an indestructible creature deal with trample? Presumably you wouldn't take trample damage if you blocked a trampling creature with one of your indestructible creatures. The definition of trample as I understand it is that "if this creature would deal enough damage to its blockers to destroy them you may have it deal the remaining damage to the defending player." Your indestructible creature wouldn't die of course. But the trampling creature "would" deal enough damage to kill it even though it actually doesn't. Does it trample over it without killing it? Or does the indestructible creature halt the entire trample attack? Does anyone know?

What happens when you make a Defiant Vanguard indestructible? Does he still kill the dude he blocks, and live to tell the tale?

I love dropping one of these on Platinum Angel, putting a Whispersilk Cloak on it, and then another Indestructibiliy on the whispersilk.. Faced with having to remove two enchantments, one at a time, before they can even consider having a chance to win the game, most non-green decks just concede.

And yes, by the way, this is a very plausible scenario in my deck.

"How does an indestructible creature deal with trample?"

Although you can't actually destroy the indestructible creature, the trampling creature would deal enough damage to it that would 'normally' kill it, then tramples over the rest. It still counts as lethal damage, even though it doesn't actually destroy it.

If a Planeswalker has all it's counters removed, it's put in the graveyard as a state-based effect, and not destroyed. It would only shield the Planeswalker from cards that can destroy it, be either targeted permanent destruction, or mass permanent destruction, either not happening all too often.

Suppose you enchant Simic Guildmage with Indestructibility, then enchat that Indestructibility with another indestructibility, and then, using the Guildmage ability, attach the first Indestructibility to the other, would you get a bizarre ball of indestructible uselessness?

Enchant 'That Which Was Taken' with this. Then put a Divinity counter on it. Pray they don't run any non-creature exile.

And Joseph_Leito, if the best combo you can think of for any card involves Platnum Angel, you're clearly none too creative. I can't see where a well-built deck of any color would have an issue with that, at least not more than once.
I swear, these comments need a filter; no mentions of Platnum Angel, Emrakul, Iona, or Progenitus. We got it, they're powerful, any card you think of can probably combo off them, and it's all been said and done before, so you don't sound cool for mentioning them. Let's move on.

I want true Indestructibility, something like:

"If enchanted permanent would be moved to any zone other than the battlefield, it isn't."

That works for pretty much everything, right? Also, it's a scary thought and totally breaks the game. But still.

Okay here we go.
So you have 2 of these in your hand, A and 2,and a Simic Guildmage on the battlefield. WhiteWhiteWhiteWhiteWhiteWhiteWhiteWhiteGreenBlueGreenBlue open.
Enchant the mage with A.
Enchant A with 2.
Use the mage's ability to move A onto 2.
Congrats, you have an Indestructiball!

This really shines with Geist of Saint Traft, and he ramps perfectly into this. I know Angelic Destiny is the number 1 contender and this isnt in standard, but its a 4 in the air and 2 on the ground threat every turn, a 5 turn clock, and Geist becomes insanely hard to get rid off. With angelic destiny they can throw a day of judgment and take him out. With this it cuts down most threats, with the number 1 contender still being Black Sun's Zenith. Yeah, and Angelic Destiny would protect against that and replenish itself if Geist did happen to die. Ah who am I kidding, if you get destiny off its a 2 turn clock. Still this is not a bad card on a hexproof creature, or you could just throw Alexi's Cloak into the mix. That be perfect you drop this, they throw there removal in response, then you waste it with the cloak sealing your dude. Putting this on anything without hexproof is just foolish, because theres so many exile spells out there that will 2 for 1 you.

I would like this to have costed 1 less, but it would be to strong for casual new players that way I guess.

In the art, what's really impressive is the attacker's aim.

No, seriously! The indestructible guy protected the ground underneath him, but not the ground even slightly to his left or right, or front or back. The only way this could happen is if the attack came from directly above -- not even at a slight angle -- and the attacker fired their devastating attack Straight down when they were perfectly above their target.

Not even Sephiroth can do that. Hell, not even real-life lightning bolts can do that.

Are you 100% sure? I sense bullshît. You can say it the other way and it would make more sense: "You can't deal lethal damage to an indestructible creature... thus the creature with trample cannot trample over it." If you had to use the phrase "that would 'normally' kill it", you're most probably wrong.

★★★☆☆ (3.8/5.0) (2 votes)
@Kragash

You only ever have to assign lethal damage.

The game doesn't figure out that the damage isn't actually lethal until the assignment has happened.

Cannot be destroyed by damage and is unable to be assigned damage are two totally different things. Mostly that AFAIK the second one doesn't even exist.

Even in a protection from ***** scenario, say a pro green creature blocking a Terra Stomper, if the pro green guy was a 4/4, the stomper only needs to assign 4 damage to it, the other 4 can go to the defending player or planeswalker.

The actual damage step takes place after that, and that's when things would take lethal damage or not.
