I agree it's still useful, yet i'm bugged by the fact that this one is only a sorcery, though...

I personaly perfer using a Dark ritual instead of this.

This might be helpful in combo with Dark Ritual and Cabal Ritual to drop something big into play or fire off a massive spell.

Rain of FIlth in the same block gives you instant speed and a scary drawback. Casting multiples of these in one turn is great. Using Rain with Second Sunrise is also great.
Then you'll have a lot of mana, even by land-ramp standards. Go nuts!

So, it's free to cast provided you have 1 swamp, is as close to a dark ritual at turn 2 and 3 as you can get. And moving forward is absolutely brutal. Asside from the fact that it's a sorcery, what's NOT to love about this spell? Ever heard of Black Mana Mages needing more land?? No, of course not, same goes for me. And if you happen to be playing mono black and your opponent is as well, it can EASILY turn 1 measley swamp into 10+ mid to late game. Having said that, obviously I cannot justify giving this a 5/5 but I'm doing it anyway! ;)

1 Swamp: 1 mana lost 2 Swamps: no gain 3 Swamps: 1 mana gain 4 Swamps: 2 mana gain 5 Swamps: 3 mana gain
Kinda like a later-game version of Dark Ritual. Takes 4 Swamps to match the Ritual and 5 to exceed it, but then Ritual is stupidly good.
Probably not bad in a deck that runs big black fatties.
