It's a fun card. Not tyhe most powerful but sometimes "Win the game" can be enough.

You can always Traumatize or otherwise mill yourself, if you want to take a risk, or the dredge cards from the Golgari could help.

Morality Shift early in the game would definitely get the job done.
Even without that, it could make the opponent hesitant to attack you. Killing your blockers will allow them to do damage to you, but every meat shield they kill is bringing you closer to victory. Basically, load up on low-cost creatures and block whatever they throw at you.

A cycling deck with Fluctuator using only cycling critters and lands with one Lotus Petal, a Songs of the Damned, and this card goes off on Turn 3 consistently.

@ClockworkSwordfish i'm pretty sure black and blue = mill deck.....
if you traumatize yourself and you don't have the 20 creatures, say only 18/19, next turn, BAM... living death

This is probably one of the easiest alternate win conditions to fulfill. Of course, it's still susceptible to enchantment destruction, graveyard removal, and cards that exile your creatures. On the other hand, people probably won't see this coming, so the drawbacks may not matter.
ooh ooh me pick me, I love milling myself discarding and sacrificing stuff! on a mostly unrelated note, I don't like paying life. well maybe just a little bit.

This card just begs for you to misuse Dredge. And yes, it's impossible to cast this card without saying ''I cast MORTAL COMBAAAAAAAT!!''

This was my first rare. I was a bit of a gamer (then and now) and quite obviously got hooked. I have never used it once in 4 years (even though all my EDH decks are black multicolored) but I still LOL whenever I see it in my trade binder. On the page after the Vengevine and before the Koth of the Hammer.

Oh, wow. This may not be the best alternate win condition, but it is by far the coolest.
I can't believe it's black. Blue - Black is the best mill deck, even better than mono blue.

Survival of the Fittest says hi. If you include in your deck creatures that you can actually use to keep you alive until you hit the 20 (like Fleshbag Marauder, Acidic Slime and those kind of ETB dudes), then with some dedicated "graveyard filling" you can probably get them in there by about turn 6 or 7.

"Only the Cabal could win." is likely referencing Kabal, who was by far the highest tier character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Even wizards knows Kabal's a badass.
I was once at a tournament and my opponent played this. As he did, he shouted "MOOORTAAAAAAAL KOOOMMMMBBBAAAAAAAAAATTT!!" and the theme from the movie started playing over the PA. We then proceeded to fight to the death and I ripped out his spine and beat him to death with it. It was probably the best win I've ever seen at a tournament.
I got disqualified afterward though. :(

Or it could, just maybe, be referencing the group of corrupted clerics that are pictured in the art.\, just a thought.
