You don't see creature control in green that often. The fine thing about Utopia Vow is that you can interpret it in different ways. If your early beater is stopped, he can help accelerate your mana and in the late game, when mana doesn't matter anymore you can stop their biggest threat.

Interesting card, it can be used as Pacifism.

I really like how this card can either help you or hinder your opponent. Combine it with a Nettling Imp or Siren's Call to blast the offender off the planet.

It makes the untap creatures from shadowmore almost playable, almost.

I have a lot of love for this card. It's versatility makes it hard for me to find a time when this isn't useful.

There's no such thing as snow mana, only mana from a snow permanent, which it would be.

If u put this on a snow creature (i.e. ohran viper) would it make snow mana?

edit: So you could use it to regenerate a rimebound dead, for example. Thanks for the answer.

am i right in thinking if you play this on patrol signaler and have training grounds out, on turn 3 you have infinite 1/1 soldiers??

you could use this card on llanowar elves or any other card with the tap for mana ability to double its mana output (and effectiveness). just putting it out there.

A green version of Path to Exile, if you think about it. That doesn't make it great though, since it costs more and has some obvious flaws.

Pacifism when you need it, mana fixing when you don't.

I have a question regarding this card...

I have been playing it so that I cast it on an opponent's creature, effectively pacifying it as well as giving ME the option of tapping it to add a mana to my mana pool. However, a friend I recently played against was adamant that when I cast it on his creature it gave HIM the option of tapping it to add mana to his mana pool... What would the correct ruling be here?

@reichert55: It gives the creature the ability, so he would be able to tap the creature for mana. You would not.

I don't see why this is only rated 3.5/5; it is versatile as everyone has said, but I don't think people realize how little creature control/removal is in green. Plus it only costs 2 mana. At least a 4.5/5 in my opinion.

This could also be good on Vigean Hydropon, cuz it's not like you're gonna attack with it anyways...

I understand why Pacifism is rated higher than this even if others are saying its a great card. People are pointing out that this is way better than pacifism because of it's versatility. And that when you have this in your hand you have the option to ramp your mana up OR neutralize an opposing threat.

The problem is, using this to ramp mana up renders one of your creatures useless combat-wise because you have to tap the creature on certain turns and that is what makes this card less appealing. Now, using it as a defensive card is where the comparison to pacifism comes in. Giving the creature a mana ability becomes a drawback or sorts and that again makes this card less appealing.

I'll still give it a 4/5 because it's a planar chaos card and that set is just crazy awesome.

@Auron525.
This ADDs an ability. Llanowar Elves has an ability. Casting this on the elf would give it 2 abilities. You would have a choice. A) Tap for green OR B) Tap for colour of your choice. You would not gain double mana tap, {G} and {1}.

@Lysander121.
Using {W}, yes. See teh_mummy...
