This is a cool, fun and good card for soldier decks. Use it with Ballynock Trapper for a little soldier machine! Also, I do know that Ballynock Trapper won't untap when the token enters the battlefield; I just meant that it's an in-tribe way of getting it tapped that could often let you do it twice per turn. I'd rather use Paradise Mantle on the Patrol Signaler instead though. I like the idea of as many tokens as you can afford for (effectively) one mana each.
CoP won't stop lifeloss, so the first combo works, second one not so much. Even just combining it with Utopia Vow or another way to tap for mana makes this guy nasty.
Why is this rated so low? its a very decent card. I would say a 3 at least, though i'm rateing it higher to compensate for the crap rateing its getting now.

I used to think the same thing. In concept it seems like a decent card. However, after playing my first 12 rounds on MTGO to test my soldier deck, I've come to realize that depending on how your deck is built, there should be MUCH better things to spend your two mana on. My Patrol Signalers came onto the battle field 7 times, but I couldn't find spare mana to untap them without giving up a turn 5/6 kill. In terms of cost effectiveness, they're terrible. They're really fun to play with when you're screwing around with friends though.

Paradise mantle and training grounds work with this and most of the other untap creatures. If you really really can't splash blue then heartstone instead of training grounds.

Combine with Selesnya Evangel and you get instant-speed Saproling & Soldier for 3 mana. Goes so nicely into my Convoke deck :)
