I wish I had 4 :(
... 5 islands + this card + high tide + brainfreeze = good game on turn 5, sweet and slick.

One of the most degenerate cards in a series of blue untappers with a totally broken mechanic. The ability to return this one to your hand made for some totally broken comboes with any land producing more than 1 mana. Palinchron + Fertile Ground and 7 lands leads to infinite mana of any color.

@bioprince- FUN!?

My infinite mana kill was:

High Tide (with six lands) + Pally + Braingeyser.

I would have used Stroke of Genius, but at the time, the card was too expensive.

did they even playtest this card once before printing it?

Oh god what were they thinking. Any spell with storm and this is just ridiculous.

I ve always wondered, why was High Tide so broken - it never seemed too powerful to me. Well, now I know... :)

I never liked this idea. It is too easy to "break" it.

7 lands and a hand with 4 of these.

Brutal.

@Equinox523: No it doesn't. You have to untap 7 different lands, and you can't tap lands for mana in between untapping the lands. You need 7 lands that provide a total of 12 or more mana to go infinite with this card. (With 7 lands that provide a total of 11, you can get an infinite storm count)

So, I just went infinite with this guy and Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger on the board. Windfall and Memory Jar in hand I burned through a good portion of my deck to grab another infinite engine involving Geth, Lord of the Vault and proceeded in milling everyone to death. :3

Or I could've continued to filter through my deck and dropped a super powerful The Mimeoplasm eating a Hydra Omnivore in the process with an equipped Lightning Greaves and swung at an open opponent to kill them all with a 80+ attack to everyone..

Yeah, I pretty much love this guy, although they pretty much ordered me to drop him from my deck when playing them. XD

WotC designers and developers has said several times that they have nothing against three card infinite comboes.

This is only one of those cards that can enable three card infinite combo.

P.S. High Tide + this is only two card infinite mana combo, but you still need the third card to make the kill.

What?
I have no idea what was up with Urza's Legacy and cards that don't cost anything.
Crazy.

F*** this card. EDH is filled with stupid combos and apparently EVERYONE according to my stupid friends needs to run an infinite combo to win in this format now. So much for the fun of long, drawn out games, which was the point of the format originally.

This and the combos like it that break the format is why I don't play EDH. I get tired and annoyed when I get infinite combo'd out for the 5th time in a row by a deck type thats supposed to take a long time. How original is it to play one card and get infinite mana then make a player draw a million cards? Try winning by damage for once losers.

Combos with Riku, Animar, Tolarian Academy, Deadeye Navigator, High Tide, Mana Flare, Heartbeat of Spring, urzatron, my left nut, and a partridge in a pear tree.

I'm still scratching my head as to how Kokushko was banned for being "accidentally degenerate" when the only condition for breaking Palinchron in the format is "playing good Blue or Green cards".

Of course this card is from Urza block....

Stupidly easy to combo with. This plus anything that does something mean when a creature enters the battlefield = infinite silliness. This plus any Manaflare effect = infinite mana... and so on. A stupid card that I've only seen played by tools as part of infinite combos in Commander. 4/5 for power, 1/5 for total lack of playtesting.

Hands down fun. 8 islands and hightide generates all the free blue mana you could need at a rate of 3 mana per cycle. So many ways to go with that, the sky's the limit. One of my favorites was with menmarch. Stealing everyone else's permanents, land and all, is so immensely satisfying, especially in a mass multiplayer.

Something to ponder: if you cheat it into play, like with Elvish Piper, you still untap the seven lands.

He's good friends with Kokusho, the Evening Star and Recurring Nightmares ;)

I think the key to balancing this thing would have been to add a tapping cost to it's bounce ability, shutting down the same-turn infinite recursion tricks. Of course, back in Urza's block they couldn't have predicted a format like EDH would make 7 mana less of a drawback and more of a midrange drop.

Great Whale is better. Sure, it might not have flying. Sure, it might not be able to bounce itself. Sure, it might only have 1 more power. But it's a WHALE.

@stormkeeper
That doesn't work:
5 islands, tap 1 for high tide
4 islands tap for 8 mana, pay for this guy, have 1 floating
untap the islands, tap 2 to return him to your hand
tap 3 islands and use the 1 mana floating to put him back into play
and now you only have 10 mana; less than the first time you played him.

It can't go infinite because it requires 11 mana to do the combo (4 to return, 7 to put him back into play) but you only generate 10. You need two high tides, another island, or some other piece that reduces costs or something to make that work.

I lost my first magic game ever to a guy who was running some infinite-mana combo with this. I was even playing blue and had counterspells in my deck, and yet I still had no idea what was going on until he got it off and the game was over from some nasty Storm spell. Ugh, I hate this card.
