Anybody else here up for voting this Worst Counterspell in the game?

Yes, I agree. This would still be bad even at common (which it should have been).

Who the hell made this an unc???!!?

Half star. There are so many better counterspells to work with.

This is a horrible card. But at least the Art is interesting.

This card is just terrible. Counterspell, Cancel, Convolute and so many more not only cost less, they also don't have much of a restriction on them.
Effect: 0.5/5.
Rarity: 0.5/5.
Artwork: 3/5.
Flavor text: 4/5.

Averaging it out, I gave this card a 2/5.

Hey, it's a combo with Moonlace!
No? Well, at least I tried.

Only exists so draft and sealed players get a mono-blue counterspell in the set. It's bad, very very bad, but WotC wants Ravanica block players to play two or more colors.

I don't know how this card wasn't a common for {1}{U}. Then it'd fit the Counterspell-with-a-restriction category Wizards always prints without totally sucking

It's not exactly Mana Drain, is it?

This is pretty much terrible in every way except flavor. There are so many better options. And why is it uncommon?!

bad. just give us Counterspell back. if at least it had an alternate cost, lie Daze or Force of Will...

Built as a splashable hard counter for drafts.
Which it does well.

This is a fun idea.

Too bad it sucks. It would have been playable at 2U and competitive at UU. As is, it's pretty horrible.

Wow, why is this rated at 0.5/5? This is one of those few (almost) hard counters that doesn't cost double blue to cast. So what if it can't hit blue spells? This really isn't that much worse than Cancel. Whenever a spell becomes more splashable, the cost usually goes up by 1.

This is not Ember Shot or Moonlace... It's not like every blue counter has to be supergodly Mana Drain powerful.

Bad Card? Yes.
Does it deserve a 0.5 rating? No.

I have enough respect for blue to rate this a 2/5
(And Moonlace is rated 1.5 - HA!)

An extremely effective card in an alternate universe where Wood Elementals are the dominant creature and Laces are power cards.

Should have cost 2U - a bit cheaper than Cancel (the new standard for counterspells), but with a restriction. Now, it is a case of pay more, get less.

@Dberry...

This card is rated a 0.5 because it has a drawback. normally, not that bad. negate is a decent counter with a drawback. Negate costs two mana, this costs four and is useless against a majority of a U_ control deck. In a control deck, mana space is everything. People dont even like playing cancel cuz it costs too much, they are nto going to play a four mana counter, thats absurd

When i pay 4 for a counterspell, i expect it to work on every single spell that can be countered. This is trash.

Why was this printed? At 2, it would have been like blue terror, but at 4 it makes me sad.

I'm eagerly awaiting the follow-ups to this: Razzle-Dazzle and Fribble-Frabble.

Wow, it's not even Cancel. I wouldn't be happy to open this in a booster, unless the rare was Cap'n Tickles.

I think the point of this was splashibility. Mulitcolor decks were a very big theme of the block. So the BlueBlue+ cost that counterspells famously carry was harder to come by. With only two islands on the field, you were locked out of half of your deck (if dual-colored) should you want to keep counter mana up. So I can see where R&D was coming from by adding one more colorless mana to drop one mana symbol.

The "non-blue" downside seems a bit extreme to me in addition to the increased cost, though. As I already said, the block was heavy in multicolored. So that "non-blue" means four of the ten guilds of Ravanica have spells immune to this, not to mention the non-blue guilds with blue hate (Looking at you, Gruul).

So yeah, they got over protective on this one. What would have been nice was one of the "if you paid -color-" triggers instead of the target limitation. Maybe have this backlash some damage to you unless a Red was paid, or discard unless a Black, etc... But I guess all spells can't be "good" spells. We need bad ones to keep the good ones special in comparison.

costs 1 colorless mana too much. maybe they didn't want to break it in the common slot?

Finds a home in Arcane Melee style decks that love the ability to reduce the colorless cost. Other than that, yeah this is pretty rubbish.
leomistico

The original Ravnica block did a ton of good things, but it didn't have a mono-color hard counter! Not even one!

Convolute: not hard counter
Frazzle: target limitation, and overcosted
Induce Paranoia: needs black to do something that justify the high mana cost
Muddle the Mixture: limited to instant/sorcery
Remand: really good to gain tempo, but not exactly an hard counter
Runeboggle: not an hard counter
Spell Snare: target limitation

I would have really liked to see something like Hinder, Dissipate, Dismal Failure, Dismiss, hell, even Cancel! Moreover, the only guild that didn't get an hard counter is Izzet... It only gets Odds! This fact still bothers me...!

This one costs 1 more than one I would like to spend for this effect! 4 mana? Really...? Give me Cancel, please...!

This card is like the Mohs card rating scale standard for one, considering it has the most votes of cards rated exactly 1.0

Wait a second, is that an Izzet goblin whose spell was "frazzled"?

Yeah... The flavour mentions "components" and the art features something that looks like the Izzet armband, seen in Izzet Charm.

Ok, cool and all... but the spell says "counter target nonblue spell". Technically, half of Izzet is blue. I... uhh...

I GUESS you can say that he could be casting a red spell, and I guess you could also say that "frazzling" a spell that's green in nature wouldn't make for coherent art.
