Dismiss costs the EXACT SAME and does the same thing. Except that YOU draw the card instead of the opponent. And then we have Vex, which is this card. Except Vex only costs 2U.

Bayu, I think it is obvious that you are dyslexic. So long as you are countering an opponents spell they don't draw a card, they discard a card.

Provides an effective counter and gives card advantage. Can be especially effective later in the game. Goes well with after a Rewind. Not very stellar when your opponent has a solid draw engine or something like howling mine on the field, since there will be more junk in their hand to protect the good cards you want them to discard.

Not only is this useful, but the name is just hysterical. I want to play this on someone and say in a dramatic voice, "DISMAL. FAILURE." Priceless.

I love blues's discard in Planar Chaos.

I also like the idea of blue as the discard color.
I'd like to see more blue cards like this.

The card itself is a bit of a failure... Discard 1 isn't worth 2 mana IMO. There are a lot better cards to use for discard, like Perplex, that happen to be considerably cheaper. 2/5 for me.

Cancel+Anti-cantrip for opp.=AWESOME!

I love the flavor of this card: It makes me think of vintage/legacy tournament play with counterspells. Confidence in your own abilities goes a long way!

Everyone is forgetting same thing, this is two for one, you are countering a card AND forcing opponent to discard a card that will be countered on next turns. If opponent discard a land, still i will have faster tempo than him/her

As a blue player, I instantly fell in love. This is definitely worth the two extra mana over counterspell. Discard in blue is rare, add on a counterspell and you've got a card.

I typed fail into gatherer to see if anything would come up I wasn't expecting to find such a rude card 5/5.

It's worth noting: Countering a spell is now 1UU. The discard really only costs 1 colorless, which is pretty nice considering it's both useful and off-color.

Worse than Cryptic Command.
Still a decent card, 4/5.

3.5/5 (being Mana Drain 5/5 Counterspell 4.5/5 and Arcane Denial 4/5)

Lets say you counter a for UU1 (cancel, stoic rebutual, dismiss, hinder...) and for one colorless mana your opponent discard a card. This is card advantage. Little less tan Dismiss and Cryptic Command 4/ both.

Late in the game, this isn't guaranteed to 2-for-1, but that's where blue's bounce comes in.

@Zylo-: Go look up the meaning of "strictly better", cryptic would be strictly better if it had discard a card as an option, as it is the two cannot be strictly better or worse than eachother as neither one is better than the other in every single situation.

@Zylo: I'm sorry, tell me how Cryptic Command makes an opponent discard a card and costs 2BlueBlue rather than 1BlueBlueBlue. Tell me exactly how it's strictly better.

Tell me more about how you only had two cards in your hand when you cast that spell.

@demidracolich and DoragonShinzui

You are both correct... I used the strictly better term improperly... It is not strictly better... I just find Cryptic Command to be the better card due to it's flexibility and overall usefulness in more scenarios... Dismal Failure is not as flexible and a lot more situational...

How is this a dismal failure if it has an upside?
