Lets take 3 really powerful 1 mana cards, glue them together, and make it cost 1 more. Seems genius.

This charm counters the other charms. Considering the format is going to be dominated by charms for the next couple months, and this is the one charm to rule them all, Izzet is placed in an incredibly powerful position.

I would play this if it only had the instant speed Faithless Looting. Just SUCH an awesome utility for RU, it makes me wriggle having to wait to see the Simic Charm.

Izzet is getting a solid charm as well. Charms are great for pros like me because we always choose the best ability for any given situation.

I have said that the Selesnya Charm is the best of the cycle.
I totally forgot this one. This one's actually tied to the selesnyan, if not better!
Easily a 5/5 for versatility (yeah that was obvious...)

Almost every charm cycle has been very well designed (The blue charm from Planar Chaos was the exception. Bleh.), and the Guild Charms are no exception. A bunch of handy abilities at a reasonable price, with epic art and flavor. Personally, I think I like Izzet's best, but that's just 'cause I like Izzet the best in general. Weird Science for the win.

Now I want a "Choose one or more" for 3CMC.
I'm greedy, screw me.

Unlike Spell Pierce, which I already play as a four-of, this is almost never a dead card. Therfore, I might run this in addition to Spell Pierce in my classic Grixis Control. Elf decks and planeswalkers will hate me. If I ever find something worth discarding, like Sedraxis Specter, I might run that too. And because shocklands are getting cheaper, my Scalding Tarns will do a better job of fixing my mana from here on out.

It's so hard not to have these good charms be 4-ofs in any relevant deck. Amazing versatility, and highly skill-rewarding.

Even as a four-of, I still include 3 Faithless Looting, because that effect is just bonkers.

@ LordRandomness: Except Shock is actually only Dead and Faithless Looting got instant speed. But yeah, those are some great options!

I run 3 in my UR Delver deck because they're like my Faithless Looting and Pillar of Flame #5-7. It also happens to be the only counterspell in my deck, its been able to stop a Vraska from entering the field and a lot of other things. I give it 5/5 (which I rarely do) because it does exactly what its colors want from it at its CMC, but also isn't stupidly powerful by itself.

the worst thing about this charm is that you must choose only one option. other charms don't have all three so playable posibilities.

Personally, I think the damage option could've been a little stronger, but other than that it's a really solid spell.

I want to love the Izzet Charm, after all, I do enjoy playing Izzet decks but it never seems to be what I need when I need it.

Mana Leak - my opponent has plenty of mana.
Creature Damage - my opponent's creature has four toughness.
Card Filter - I'm happy with every card in my hand except the damn Izzet charm.

Instead I wind up running two syncopates and two dangerous wagers.

BlueRed: Choose one: Spell Pierce, Dead, or instant-speed Faithless Looting. Seems like a great utility card to me.

Favorite guild, favorite charm, favorite color combo, oh; it's extremely versatile....almost too versatile. 5/5

Removal, counterspell, and card filtering in one. Very, very powerful. Useful at all stages of the game.

Soft negate, creature only shock, or an instant speed faithless looting without flashback for 2. Not a fan of this one, but should be okay in BlueRed decks that want faithless looting.

I'd rather have a mana leak, a shock or a faithless looting.

People don't seem to understand the versatility of this card. Sure there are better options for one of the modes but it has THREE modes. It is never a dead draw and it always has an application. It's easily one of the best charms and that's shown by how much standard play it sees.

@Edgarallanpoe: I'd rather have all three in one card. And that's what this is.

I'm a big fan of this card! If you're playing a slower deck, I've found this is one of the most useful cards to have in your opening hand. This will probably kill anything summoned within the first few turns, and you're almost guaranteed whoever you're playing can't pay the 2 if you counter a spell at this point. It also ensures you aren't stuck with expensive spells early on by letting you filter for something playable. I've had reason to use all three options early on, and nothing says card advantage like versatility. This charm shines brightest early on, but even if you draw it late game, it's still useful for knocking out utility creatures.

While you're racing your opponent to establish a mana base and get some board control, this will almost always set him back a turn behind you. Great card!

Lots of flexibility. A solid card overall, although it isn't necessarily as powerful as some of the other charms such as Boros Charm.

With so many twos (2s, or {2} respectively) in text I kinda expected it to be "Choose two".

This charm is incredible. I use it in Grixis Control, and it's so wonderful being able to take out creatures vs. aggro, counter threats vs. control or midrange, and just ship it away when it's not relevant, digging me two cards closer to threats. 4/5, one of my favorite cards and a real workhorse in the deck. An opening hand with Izzet Charm, a removal spell, and snapcaster mage is a really good start in that deck, as long as I hit my land drops it does really well.

Great card, can't argue that. But there is a little thing that bothers me: it's the damage part. First, every charm effect should be the one of a 1CMC spell, and we know that a 1CMC spell deals 2 damages to creatures OR PLAYER. And Shock is not an overpowered card. Second, it seems a little like the Dimir Charm destruction effect that says "destroy target creature with power 2 or less". They are basically the same thing. Ok, destruction and damages aren't the same thing, but they fill almost the same porpose.

I think it should can damage the player too. Or at least exile the creature, like Magma Spray.
Well, I can live with that, I suppose...

4.5/5

Also, if the art of Boros Charm is by Zoltan Boros, why the art of Izzet Charm isn't by Izzy...?
