This was one of my favourite cards in Ravnica block limited. It can steal otherwise lost games from your opponent in a way even most experienced players won't usually suspect. The effect is just too unique. I remember winning with it a seemingly lost game against a growing army of flyers off a Leafdrake Roost and praying for the last creature needed to come out for my opponent so I can finish him with this card. What's more, you can "tutor" with it another 6 mana bomb from your deck ( playing more 6 mana cards in a limited deck isn't always a great idea though) - Hex, for example, is in the same format. Really an excellent card, only sometimes a bit unfair.

I tend to like the combo of playing "Empty the catacombs" the turn before, this give people a chance to get all their dead creatures out on the battlefield, then i hit them with the Netherborn Phalanx.

Interesting and potentially devastating effect! :) If your opponent doesn't have creatures, you transmute for Infernal Genesis and then later play Dread Return..

It's an opposite Conclave Phalanx.

Damage to the face plus a decent body. A bit overpriced for what it does, but it doesn't matter since it's splashable and can tutor for better cards if you need it to.

Use against Eldrazi Spawn decks.

This is the most hilarious answer I can think of in EDH to an early Storm Herd.

Seems like a good card for that new Commander deck, "Counterpunch". Get a creature into your graveyard and fetch a card. Also can come back with the ghost chieftain commander and dish out some serious pain. People always get tons of creatures out in multiplayer.

Found this looking for good cards to synergize with the Sedris, the Traitor King commander deck I want to build. Use the transmute to tutor up a Malfegor, then use the unearth from Sedris to smack any opponents building an army! Love it.

Anyone notice the artist? I'm pretty sure he hadn't done art in a long time.

Good against almost any Tribal or token deck. My friend had like 15 elf tokens out, played Elvish promenade, I was thinking i was screwed, then I drew the final swamp needed to play this card. I can still remember his swearing.

Potentially powerful in limited or EDH.

Tutors for Caged Sun, Life's Finale, Massacre Wurm, Geth, Lord of the Vault, Grave Titan, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and more in my Chainer EDH deck. Seems pretty good.

Gibbering Descent is a good spell to tutor

6cmc covers a lot of bombs, not to mention this guy can be reanimated afterwards by the Teneb you just tutored.

Those guys look oddly phyrexian; but in ravnica. Very odd.
