Simply amazing. Period. Recurring animation is always good. Now from EITHER graveyard?! That's just sick. Plus if you use an effect like Dark Banishing with her effect on the stack, you can pull back a creature forever! Just a solid, solid card...

how is this card a Zombie? no reprints, just a decision by Wizards to add 'Zombie' to her creature type?

Perfect in my Grixis graveyard-control.
I just use it to take their big and bad Iona or some other nasty card.

So does bouncing Coffin Queen to your hand count as "losing control" of it? If not then the combo potential just skyrockets.

Apparently this is what the Sorceress Queen is up to in her spare time.

Repeated reanimation is superb. At the very least, she can double the usefulness of chump-blockers - at best, she can score you a huge beater for cheap, even from your opponent's graveyard. You can also keep reusing creatures with sacrifice effects, such as Children of Korlis or Spore Frog, indefinetley. The "remove from the game" clause can also be helpful, allowing you to permanently remove a threat like Haakon or Wonder from your opponent's graveyard.

All this, and she has a totally hot bod. Sounds like a great card to me.

Compared to it's two chief rivals, Hell's Caretaker and Nezumi Graverobber, this card is just out of the park powerful. Instant speed, repeatable reanimation with no set-up and no cost other than mana. Plus, it's now a zombie, which lets you use it alongside Lord of the Undead and Call to the Grave. This is the best card in its class, by far.

I still love this dark card. 4x of this card along with 4x of two others played the core part of a theme deck that I loved to pull out.

4x Coffin Queens, 4x Dominating Licids, and 4x Bribery just made for an extremely cruel Blue/Black deck. Counters, stealing from In Play, from the Grave, and even from the Deck just was too much fun for casual play. Literally going and stealing the power cards from my opponent to use against him. Aura Thief was also in the deck for laughs really, just to lay claim to even more of my opponent's stuff.

Here's an interesting rules question - what happens if you use Coffin Queen's ability to bring a creature out of the graveyard, then it is exiled with Journey to Nowhere or Oblivion Ring before Coffin Queen untaps, dies or switches controllers. Exiling the creature is then a triggered ability, but the creature is already in the x-zone. Upon removal of the Journey/Ring, wouldn't its ability take precedence and the creature would return to the battlefield free and clear of Coffin Queen's ability rules?

Zombie?

Well, she also has four arms and possibly a spectral "tail". I suppose it's fortunate she's not something even weirder, like a Spirit Vedalken Wizard.

@jfre81: To my best understanding, the creature returning to the battlefield after being exiled with Oblivion Ring or Journey to Nowhere is considered a completely new creature. It should have forgotten any restrictions imposed upon it in its former existence.

Same goes for Momentary Blink or Venser, the Sojourner.

Furthermore, I note if the reanimated creature just dies, it just goes back to the graveyard, ready to be resurrected again.

1. Activate Coffin Queen
2. Cloudshift (or similar instant-speed flicker, perhaps Deadeye Navigator...) the Coffin Queen in response
3. Resolve first activation of Coffin Queen, getting your opponent's stuff on the cheap
4. Retrun New Coffin Queen to play, and do it again

Who doesn't like repeated grave-robbing? It was in your graveyard; you obviously weren't doing anything with it, so I'll use it. Its the efficient thing to do: recycle, reuse, win.

Man, I really, really love this art. Just so stylish. I think if Kaja Foglio had more art like this, she probably would still be doing Magic art... (Not that I dislike Foglio art, just saying.)

A really good creature that is actually better if you read it carefully. The ability to grab creatures from ANY player's graveyard, and the ability to do this repeatedly, is not to be underestimated - and black being the color of discard makes for some pretty obscene synergy. Not only do you have a repeatable Zombify for your own creatures, but this activated ability is actually cheaper! Furthermore, as noted by Lord_of_Tresserhorn, the death of the reanimated creature merely means you get to try again next turn. All at instant speed. A true bomb, and a card that can be built around.

Also, any Dimir/mill players out there? Nothing like grabbing that fancy Pathrazer of Ulamog, or whatever nasty creature you milled, from the opponent's graveyard and swinging at them with it. Not to mention the constant threat when you have 3 mana open of raising a blocker to counter any of their schemes.

Just a great card.
The casting cost is great, requiring only one colored mana, and three mana in total is very fair for such a powerful ability. In matters of creatures types, she is both a wizard and a zombie, so she fits into many tribal decks and gets buffed by a lot of other cards.

Well, and her ability is just super powerful. Especially in multiplayer formats, such as Commander. For a lousy three mana, she fetches for you at instant speed the most powerful / userful creature from a players graveyard. To make most use of her ability, you need a way to sacrifice that creature though.

Awesome art is awesome. Almost as awesome as the card.

The best thing about this card is how creatures she brings back don't get exiled if they die, so you can continue to use your Ball Lightning or chump blocker repeatedly.

Probably the best thing to do this with? Baleful Strix. Draw a card every time it comes back, then use it as a blocker to instakill an attacker with deathtouch, then do it again as many times as you want.

@jfre81: The moment a card changes zones, it "forgets" everything that happened to it in the previous zone. Therefore, if you use a temporary-exile effect on a creature brought back by the Coffin Queen, it'll come back as a normal creature and won't get exiled when she untaps. Note that Conjurer's Closet will work for this, too.

Zombie Wizard? With that tail? The most obvious candidate for Merfolk in the Grand Creature Type Update got burned.

But whatever. Coffin Queening for Worldspine Wurm every turn is beyond amazing. Try it and see!

At worst, she can fetch ANY creature from ANY graveyard and put it under your control. At best, she can do all that, AND remove your opponent's prized creature from the game forever. 5/5

@salient: Agreed, she's not looking zombie to me either, though they did the same with quite a few other black creatures, like nunyaJs mentions.

She looks like a lamia or naga or something like that, none of which exist in Magic (could have fit the Theros block). I think they just went wrong with the zombie fanservice with this one, could've just stayed a wizard.

She's a great creature in any case.
