Interesting combination. I guess if you are looking for a small reliable bloodlust enabler, that can at some times accelerate mana too, he ain't too bad. But with his casting cost, he doesn't fulfill the role of a reliable mana accelerator, since his mana cost is slightly killing that purpose.

Normally I expect to see said damage being dealt to myself. Very nice spin on things.

I love this card if only for the fact that it hasn't been done before.

This is a great combination of 2 very core abilities from Red and Green.

I don't quite understand the flavor text. Unless he is referencing his mana cost, you don't have to pay anything for his magic. In fact, you get a nice little bonus tacked on. My opponents are the only people paying when I play this guy.

This is card 120/171? I am confuzzled by Gatherer's Counting method. :P

I've been trying to pay attention to the news about it, but somehow it still doesn't add up.

Some pingers cost mana to deal damage. This one gives you mana instead.

How is this a common? Sweet Jesus. 5/5.

All you need is Orochi Leafcaller and Freed from the Real and you've won the game instantly.

Alice Cooper is best mana dork! 'bout time he got a card.

This will be astounding in limited. The fact that he can give you acceleration AND keep the pressure on your opponent(s) at the same time is stellar.

A card which ironically enables Bloodthirst in a Standard which has no Bloodthirst. Still, it's a good addition to any modern Gruul deck, and Scab-Clan Mauler would love this guy

So this guy is almost strictly better than most mana dorks. Thank you WOTC for getting it right this time.

I'm going with Zhur-Tim on this one. Wonderful common, cheap price, great utility in a ramp kit.

Mana accel and burn spells in one creature. How delightfully Gruul of Wizards to give you to us.

Solid stuff. In Two-Headed Giant, this thing is amazing. Still good in 1v1s also.

If you got two out, it would practically be a win.

NO MANA BURN YAY!

Get four quick while they are $0.25 each! Okay, so they will probably rise to $0.50 each... BUT STILL, grab four anyway.

Now that's a multitasking utility guy.
I really like the wording on this card: instead of giving it a single ability to tap to add mana and deal damage (which will make the damage part of a mana ability and therefore impossible to respond to, if I'm not mistaken) they used a triggered ability; quite elegant.

Honestly, I am not a fan. I do not see what kind of deck this fits into. It doesn't fit into Naya aggro, because it doesn't have any extra abilities like first strike or trample, and is a 1/1 for two mana, which makes little sense. Also, Naya Aggro doesn't bother with mana ramp, and Naya midrange would rather use the less mana intensive Farseek then this guy. In pure Gruul decks, he's too small and for his mana cost, you'd rather have a Flinthoof Boar. I just don't see where he fits in a constructed deck. In limited, he's a very good candidate, but I'm just not a fan of him in a constructed format.

Thankfully, mana burn is a thing of the past, so I can tap to add green to my pool for no reason whatsoever.

Ah yes, the obligatory powerful card in the set that you (as in, I) ALWAYS forget to tap during the end of the opponent's turn!!! AAAGH, WAS SO FRUSTRATING AND DEPRESSING!!

But great card!

Why couldn't he have been a Shaman? Then I can use my Cavern of Souls for him AND Deathrite Shaman :)

Wow, this guy is really good.

Once won a game entirely with 2 of these (They caused all 20 damage) against a friend. He played a white/blue heavy control deck, but was blue-mana starved. He still dropped a magus of the moat which stopped me attacking all game.

So yes, I won with this little beauty. I Lolled

Somewhat absurdly potent. In addition to being mana accel, this is 1 damage a turn. That's kinda crazy good.

Now, Llanowar elves is a one drop and there are a lot of two drops with significant relevance. But this guy, while he might seem harder to play and can't be put in any old green deck (although, you COULD try some Burning-Tree Emissary shenanigans) works far better with the guildgate abundance in limited as well as if you miss your chance at a one drop in general.

More useful than other mana dooders lategame as he also gives your deck inevitability. Definitely has a place in my commander deck and all my decks that play red/green.

This + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Intruder Alarm = Infinite damage + infinite mana + infinite creatures.

And this is but one of a number of infinite combos with this card. Most def a 5/5. Sick.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (2 votes)
I feel like it's worded weirdly. Why wasn't it tap for G and do 1 damage? I guess because then it would avoid the stack which I suppose is also weird...

It would have been cool if it triggered whenever he go tapped. That way, he could also attack. Being a 1/1 for 2 mana, it wouldn't be broken at all.

Anyways, I love this card. More awesome commons please!

An interesting take on mana dorks. I could see him getting play in R/G aggro decks if it has a lot of four drops that this guy can get out on turn three.

This guy has a severe identity crisis - his artwork and ability fit perfectly with Gruul, but that flavour text is so very, very Black. He should meet up with Dark Confidant for a little man-to-man talk about career options.

@Flavour text: That's what I said when they cut mana burn. Especially since Zendikar, which was the very next block, was described as having "extra volatile mana". So not only did they cut the "volatility" of mana entirely, they did this right before a block where the mechanic would have fitted perfectly!

@MasterOfCruelties: I think the flavour text writer was, like me, a proponent of mana burn, so I guess this was post factum jab at the proponents for its removal.
