This seems like a pretty big power creep from Cremate but I don't think it's unwarranted. Also, any time I see a hybrid or multi color card in this block I will immediately think of how much I like drafting Lobber Crew decks XD

I just random carded onto this one for the first time ever last week...

It was fate!

@lorendorky: You have it all wrong. It's not a power creep from Cremate, it's a sidegrade to Vile Rebirth.

You guys realize this is a reprint right?

@ ThisiSakon: Are you talking about the old card or the new card? Its a good card, no?

@Lorendorky: How exactly is it "powercreep"? Creamate lets you cycle a card while exiling a card, this simply takes out the draw and simply puts a 1/1 token onto the field....

@ demidracolich: You relize that it wasn't in standard for almost 5 sets now, right?

Great card for so many Black/White/Blue Token Decks, considering they have 2 Buff Spells (Intangible Virtue and Favorited Winds) and 2 Generals for Token creatures. Phantom General and Drogskol Captain). They even have a defense spell in case you get a board-wipe spell card activated. Rootborn Defenses. Main cards would be THIS, Midnight Haunting, and Lingering Souls.

Legendary Creatures would be Geist of Saint Traft. In short, Flying Token Decks are ganna be happy... This replaces the 1 cost card for me, so that instead of spending Black for a 2/2 Zombie, I get a 1/1 Flying Spirit Token for Black or White.).

Card Lists for the Spirit Idea's
- 1 Cost cards would be this card and any other cards in a WhiteBlackBlue deck.
- Favorable Winds and Intangible Virtue for Buff Spells (both 2 cost).
- Midnight Haunting, Lingering Souls, Drogskol Captain, and Geist of Saint Traft for your 3 costs

Just a rough draft, but flying spirits are ganna be big...

Glad this is back. Solid anti-reanimator/flashback tech right here.

Great, now standard has a 1 drop token generator. Because there weren't enough to begin with already.

It would make sense if it had to target a creature spell because how are you stealing the soul of a farseek?

It's a WHITE/BLACK SPIRIT TOKEN. OMg.

Anti-flashback / reanimate / scavenge ability AND a token AND extort fodder? I'll take four, please.

It's more versatile than Vile Rebirth because it's a hybrid, your token gets flying, and you can exile ANY card in a graveyard opposed to only a creature.

When I first saw the Eventide version a couple of years ago I thought 'Wow, that's quite fitting for Orzhov'.

Guess someone else thought so too. And now I have two kinds of tokens for it! Always like having different tokens, me.

You know what's awesome about this card? Other than taking a Gravecrawler out of use, you can cast this in response to a Deathrite Shaman's ability and exile the card it was targetting, making the ability fizzle.

This was a very flavorful reprint for the Orzhov.

You know that spell you were going to give flashback with Snapcaster? It's gone now. Coincidentally I now also have a spirit creature token to trade with him.

"Yo, dawg, I heard you liked spirits, so I 'Beckon Apparitioned' your 'Beckon Apparition'"

A cool card, with great art. But in B/W in limited GTC, this card has not worked out for me, especially since great cards like One Thousand Lashes keep big guys on the board. Dropping it late game could work well with extort, but often at that point you may be willing to pay a bit more for a bigger effect. If you're benefiting from the late game, dropping a 1/1 flier may not be so good as you'd hope.

This is a very fair card, good common with plenty of imaginative uses. I'm thinking of this, Lingering Souls and Intangible Virtue in a deck together with some extort, could work very well.

Looks like Doomed Traveler is still Doomed even in the Graveyard. Ooh well, another Token on the Battlefield. Nice knowing you Doomed Traveler.

I'm very glad that I decided to look on the gatherer page of this card. Many voices keeps talking how useless and dumb this card is, but praising Vile Rebirth as the ultimate sideboard option. What...?

Reanimator decks? I dont see any reanimator decks...

Not bad tech to snapcaster mage. Exile their flashback target and get a chump blocker to slay it in combat.

@Mithosfall
Unless your playing token aggro, that play is very interesting but cremate would be better for that.

Would have been good in Sorin's Duel Deck vs. Tibalt

Jumped for joy when I saw this; running a spirit deck with 4x Drogskol Captain and a few Favorable Winds usually makes this a 1 mana 3/3 or 4/4 with flash.

Excellent reprint for the Orzhov. It fits their flavor and as a 1 mana spell it's highly extortable. Furthermore it benefits many of the other guilds that use either of its colors.
